Hi, I know it's been a long time since you wrote this and this isn't even my thread but I have been wanting to get into contact with you for some time. John Jabez is my 2nd great-grandfather. My father, Harold Dupriest, is his great-grandson which makes us related.

I just wanted to ask you about my 3rd great-grandfather, your 2nd great-grandfather, Robert M. Dupriest. I've been researching him for a while now and I saw that you put up the picture of him in what look's like his confederate uniform. It would be real neat to know if you have any more pictures of him or diaries.

I can’t be much help on your specific question about the “Mrs. DuPriest” grave marker. Just wanted to say HI and give a little encouragement.
Re: Kathy's eBook includes Robert Depress family

my Birthname was Manfred Thomas Depress according to babtismal records which I have a copy of. My father was Herman Thomas Depress who said he was from Bridgeport, Connecticut. I was born in 1946 in Landshut, Bavaria, Germany to a German mother who never told my father she was pregnant. He was supposedly much older (10 years) than my mother who was born in 1923. She is still alive and well at 81, but I seriously doubt that he is since that would put him in the nineties. I've been trying to find some roots, but have had little luck. I'm not that good on researching on the computer. Hoping someone can help me locate any leads. Thanks..........Manfred Russell

Have found out in the meanwhile that my fathers name was most likely Herman Thomas Depreff and that he was 10 years older than my mother. So that would make him about 91 now. He was from Bridgeport, Connecticut and had a family there. He was in the US Army in Landshut, Bavaria, West Germany in 1945. He was transfered prior to my birth in Febuary of 1946 and never knew that my mother was with child.

Thanks for your reply. I am checking out the Roscoe Dupriest line whose family was from the Seminole and Earley county area.

I am not having much luck as that was a poor rural area where not many records were kept. Roscoe's widow and a couple of children are still living in the area but no records other than the fact that Roscoe's father was Saul.

My mother's mother was a cousin who married a H. H. Ford and H. H. Ford died later died in Palm Beach Florida.

Hi Johnny, I am researching the Dupriest Family of Marion, Taylor, Schley, and possibly Crawford Co's of GA. Green Dupriest, my GGGgrandfather was from that area and married Manervia Jones and at least one other and possibly two other women. The descendants of this family moved to TX following the CW. I have considerable info. on the family including a photo of HH Dupriest whose name was possibly Hiram Henry. I would be happy to exchange information if our families are connected. Green's daughter Julia married Robert D. Cody of Taylor Co. in 1865. She was my GGgrandmother.
Best Wishes,
Carol Reel
careel@earthlink.net

Ruben White responded to a Dupriest survey my mother started in 1979. He included the attached Census information in his Sep 1981 response.

There is a lot of confusion about the various James Dupriest’s running around. I believe Martin Dupriest’s son James (1824-1892) raised the White kids. Another of Martin’s sons, Joseph (1816-1886) is my gggrandfather.

It’s old news.
Good Luck
I am looking for the grave of Elizabeth Corley DuPriest/DePriest. She was married to John Hines DePriest. They lived in Short Mountain Arkansas. There is a grave in the Oak Bowery Cemetery that is marked Mrs. DuPriest with the approximate date of her death and there are two other graves with rock markers next to Mrs. DuPriest. These graves are next to James R. & Alice DuPriest. Can onyone give me any information on the graves marked Mrs. DuPriest? She is my G-G-Grandmother.

This letter is from Reben White of Lovell, Wyoming.. 82431
" Need any info. on James and Nancy WHITE'S parents. James and Nancy were raised by the DUPRIEST family in White Co. AR. About 1856 the James DUPRIEST Family was moving from Alabama to Arkansas and were supposed to have found James and Nancy hiding in the woods. They were only small children. Their parents had been murdered . I would like to know what the parents names were. they could have been murdered in Alabama, Arkansas, or Tennessee, or any place between Alabama and Arkansas.
James White married Nancy JENKINS 15 May 1873. He gave his age as 22 at that time. He died 23 Feb. 1875 of pneumonia. Nancy JENKINS WHITE , b.Sept. 1850 & died 22
August 1904.
What could have happened to Nancy WHITE, the sister to James WHITE ? She was supposed to have gone to Little Rock, Pulaski Co. AR to live about 1880. Nancy WHITE was listed in the 1880 census of the deaf Mute Institute in Little Rock. Nancy WHITE, female, 26 years of age, born in AR, Big Rock township, Pulaski Co., 7 Nov. 1880. ( Could this be the Nancy I am trying to find ? ).
I would like to correspond with anyone with knowledge of any of these people, and will gladly refund postage, etc. They were part Cherokee Indian.
I got a letter from the White family today 1-10-2005 , I am no relation to them, but did a look up for them one time and they sent me a Christmas card and this letter, that I am posting for them, If any one has any info on this, Please get in touch with me or I will give their address to you, I looked in
the phone book, Their is 2 listings for a DUPRIEST, one in Searcy, and one in Rose Bud, The one that wrote the letter is 91 year old. Thank you for reading this.jot72121@alltel.net

Manfred, I was born 1948, so we are from the same generation. I don't recognize your fathers name from my research, but there are two Herman "Depriest" names in the 1930 Census. They would both have been the right age to serve in WW2.

1) age in 1930 = 14, b. Ark
2) age in 1930 = 21, b. Tenn

Other than these two, an on-line search of the US Census records did not find a Herman Depree/Depress/Dupriest in any year.

Sorry I can't help more.
I'll keep my eyes open.
Larry

We have family stories about contested wills, lost land, and a stolen jar of gold.

Evidently James and his son John Thomas came to Texas after the Civil War, my dad thinks around 1900? They are both burried in DeLeon Cemetery (Comanche County) with the following headstone inscriptions:

Dupriest, D. C. 5 Jun 1888 - 24 Feb 1916
Dupriest, J. S. 6 Nov 1854 - 20 May 1928
Dupriest, John Thomas “dad” [with Winnie Maude] 10 May 1881 - 23 Nov 1941
Dupriest, Winnie Maude Lee “mom” [with John T.] 14 Sep 1894 - 20 Sep 1967

Our Du(e)priest Genealogy:
(ME, Alford , John Thomas, James Sanders, Joseph, Martin, James, William II, William I, Robert)

James Dupriest honors the Democrats with his vote and takes
quite an interest in politics though not an enthusiast; he is also a Mason, belonging to the Blue
Lodge. Himself and wife worship with the Methodist Church to which they belong

Joseph is the father of Mildred Dupriest born 1911,living

Cullen married Willie McKay. Their daughter was
Julia Hudspeth Dupriest, born 1904, married Vaughn
Winston.

This sounds like the same James & Martin Dupriest
family of Georgia that moved to Coosa County, Alabama.

I would very much appreciate any comments as to
whether or not they are the same family.

Harry in San Rafael, CA
