Hello Monique,

Sorry just replying your post. Yes it is. You are right..
It means, both of us still family, am i right? Do you have the family tree... i just wanna know the other member of the Du Puy... I never see the exact family tree, and that made curious with it and the history of the Du Puy. It will fulfill my curiosity about the Du Puy. Cause as far as i search in internet, the badge is different with the badge that my uncle gave to my father....Also i can't find any history about the Du Puy in Indonesia.... So, it will be a huge favor for me and my father and our other members of family.

Kind regards,
Jennifer Du Puy

Hello Jennifer,
I think I can give you some information about your family. My great grand father was James Acworth Du Puy and he was born in Mr. Cornelis in Indonesia in 1864. He married an Indonesian woman called Saija, who was also born in Mr. Cornelis in 1869. They had 15 children. Is it correct that your grandfather is Richard Charles Maurice Du Puy and your grandmother Connie Von Eskes? And is your father's name Jeffrey Howard Du Puy and your mother's name Jane Mantiri?
If so than I can give you some more information about the family. Not much, just names, birthdates.
Kind regards,
Monique Kloet

Opps..sorry about sticking the name Edward as the middle name instead of Raymond. That must have been some dyslexia or ...hmmm could have been because I'd been up all night painting rooms. Again, I apologize though for sending slightly incorrect info.

I too had checked the Illinois death database, just in case he was listed, but it's really an incomplete database and it would have been a wild card search.

I also checked to see if James had remarried...or if Minnie had remarried..either as Dupuy or Minnie James in Piatt Co, but nothing appeared.

If you haven't check yet, I still believe it would be good to contact the gen society in Piatt Co to see if they have his grave listed and then see who is buried close to him. That would also possibly give his birth date and then you'd be able to connect him to an 1880 family. The marriage license might also give his age.

If you haven't found Minnie in 1900, I'll try to search for her off and on when I take breaks from painting and cake decorating. No promises of course, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Julie

Thanks so very much for the reminder of the IL Marriages at www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.ht... which I had forgotten. It turns out that Minnie Ann James married James Raymond Dupuy. Also, Piatt Co IL deaths are part of the IL Illinois Statewide Death Index, Pre–1916 Dec.1877–Dec. 1915, however no death for James Raymond, nor for any Dupuy or Dupay that could possibly be him. I expect his death occurred elsewhere as I am unable to find Minnie nor James Dupuy in the 1900 Census.
Thanks for your help. We will leave this as unsolved for the time being.
Re: Cecil Dupay b.1898 Illinois

According to the Illinois marriage database from Illinois courthouse records which is available on line, there was a marriage of a Minnie ANN James to a Mr. James Edward Dupuy on April 24, 1897 in Piatt Co.

I would suggest requesting a copy of the marriage license to see if his age is given and that way you could possibly link him to an 1880 census household. If you do that and find his age, let me know and I can look for them if you need help.

I would also suggest contacting the Piatt Co genealogy or historical society to see if there is a burial for James Edward Dupay between 1897 and 1900 at the time of the census. He may be buried near other Dupay family members. Also check nearby counties as well if that doesn't net you anything. I did see a couple 1880 listings in the census for a James Dupuy of Schuyler Co, IL, but no way to identify either of them as your James Edward Dupay just yet. My time is extremely limited right now to do any research, but I just decided to check this out on a whim

Cecil F Dupuy was born 1898 in IL to Minnie A James Dupuy and unk Mr Dupuy. Hopefully someday someone will know of a Dupup married to Minnie A James of IN and post useful information. Cecil is shown on the 1900 Census in Blue Ridge Twsp, Piatt Co IL living with his Grandfather Aaron James. Cecil and his Mother had moved to Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH by about 1904 where Minnie A married 2nd husband James William Keller abt.1904. Cecil is shown in various households of the Keller family in 1910, 1920 and 1930. He joined the Military 21 July 1917 in Jefferson Barracks, MO, served in WW1 in Europe and was discharged 14 Aug 1919.

In researching these families below is an Outline descendant report of Minnie James ancestry assuming that an Unsourced Ancestry.com Tree is correct and Elisha James is the father of Aaron Jefferson James (as appears to be true from studying Census Records)

Partial Descendants of Elisha James
1 Elisha James, Jr 1813 -1887 b: Abt. 1813 in TN d: 22 Aug 1887 in Mansfield, Piatt Co., IL
.. +Catherine Postan 1818 -1899 b: 11 Nov 1818 in Pulaski Co., KY d: 17 May 1899 in Piatt Co., IL
........ 2 Aaron Jefferson James 1845 -1926 b: 07 Jul 1845 in Rushville, Rush Co., IN d: 28 Aug 1926 in Montgomery Co., OH
............ +Mary A Ellen Bingaman 1859-1933 b: 28 Jun 1859 in Peru or Rush Co., IN d: 28 May 1933 in Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH
................... 3 Minnie A James 1879-1957 b: Sep 1879 in IN d: Abt. 24 Feb 1957
....................... +?Dupuy b:inIL
............................. 4 Cecil F Dupuy 1898- b: Abt. Elizabeth was born 15 Aug 1779 and died 11 Jan 1843 in Williamson CO., TN. I would appreciate any information anyone might have on this family. Thank you.

Eduardo Dupuy/Sixta Soto - Mexico

Hi Gaston,

I am trying to find information on my great-grandfather, Eduardo Dupuy. From what I understand, he was French-Canadian and he somehow ended up in Mexico. He married Sixta Soto in the late 1890's and I know they had several children but I only know the names of two: Elizabeth and Albert. Elizabeth was my grandmother. As the story has been told to me, Eduardo was a wealthy man who owned silver and gold mines and several merchantile stores. In the mid to late 1900's, a war broke out and he sent his wife and children to LA for their safety while he stayed and fought. He was killed and his mines and stores were seized.

Unfortunately, that's all I know of him. I don't know of any siblings or parents names. If any of this is familiar to you, please let me know. My email address is mpimentel@touchtechnology.com

Thanks!

I have not done much research on the Dupuy line, however, I did connect with one Dupuy who was originally from Alexandria, Louisiana, and he gave me a lot of research. I can share that. Let's chat.

MM

I'm related to a Dupuy and looking for kin.

I know it's really long but my great-great grandfather was a Dupuy. I unfortunately don't know first names. I don't even know the name of his wife but she was Mexican-American. They had two children Elizabeth and I think it was Eduardo. I don't know ,and neither does the rest of my family, if Ed is still alive or if he even had children. Elizabeth Gallardo is my great grandmother. She had fourteen children and my grandpa is the youngest of them all. I know his sister, Francis, is still alive. It then went to my grandpa James Gallardo. My mother is Monica Pimentel and now I am Marshall Pimentel. I've met some distant cousins who are still mainly French-Canadian. But my family is now mostly Mexican-American.

If any of you could help in the finding of Eduardo and other kin it'd be much appreciated.

The last name Dupuy or Dupuis originates from a place in the center of France puy de Dome (the place which has a well). Some of the families in the US with this last name have converted their last name to Wells.

We believe this to be the case for us. The problem is we can't frind the right Dupuy or Dupuis family. I recently learned of Count Barthelemey Dupuy. One of our ancestors name was Count de Alanson Wells. There not being many "Counts" running around the US, I am beginning to investigate Barthelemey's family. I would appreciate any help.

Ted Klein,
I am Robert Lee McNair the son of your stepmother's brother Robert G. McNair. I knew your stepmother well; all the kids of my generation called her Aunt GaGa. I guess one of my older cousins, Aunt Mary Lee's children, couldn't say "Laura" and it came out "GaGa." I am named after Rev. Robert Lee McNair; I was born in the late '30s in Va. I am interested in the genealogical information you have in the family bible. We knew Anna R. Dupuy McNair as "Miss Anna" or, of course, grandmother.
Best wishes,
Lee McNair

They both came from France. I don't know where in France. That is what I am trying to find out but not having much luck yet. This is my brick wall.
I figure he must have come over in about 1870 or so because they got married in Los Angeles, CA in 1874. I don't know when she came over. She had a brother who owned a ranch in Los Angeles. My great grandfather worked on the ranch. Maybe that is where they met. I think they lived there because they had their babies there from what I hear. She died giving birth to her third child. He and the other children stayed on a couple of years but he was unhappy without her and they all went back to France where he had family to help him with the children.
I think they are from the Pyrenees area but I am not possitive.
I have a copy of their marraige license and it tells where their families are from but I cannot read it. It seems like who ever wrote it not only had a very fancy penmanship but he must have written the names of the towns in "sound like". It is very frustrating.
Jackie

I am kind of new at this genealogy stuff. I am sure that I have a lot of places to search yet. You are right, there are a lot of Dupuy's. It is quite a common name in France.
I have looked on ellisisland.org and also castlegardens.org and found nothing on either one of them. I did find several other members of my family though including my mother. That was fun. Also, he must have missed the 1870 census and the 1880 cencus is the one that burned up. He was gone by time they took the 1890 census.
Good idea to post the marriage license on this board. I don't know if I know how but I will give it a try.
Thank you for your help....Jackie

Have you found them in any USA census? Do you know if they are related to John DUPUY in Los Angeles (livery stable) or John and Bertha DUPUY (carriage maker) in San Francisco in 1880? As you probably have learned, there were quite a few people surnamed DUPUY in CA in 1870 but none with first name of Raymond.

Have you done a thorough search of transcribed passenger lists for that time period, both from France and back?

Have you shown your document to someone who can read old handwriting and French place names? If not, you might want to scan it and post it to this board.

Best wishes with your search,
Sharyn

It would be quite unusual if he missed the 1870 and 1880 census. It was the 1890 that only has a few remnants left. He was way too early for arrival at Ellis Island but Castle Garden is a possibility. What is most important is to determine when he arrived, when he and Marie were born, and the name and location of her family in California. Without those you won't get too far. Don't forget to search under DUPUIS and that Raymond is probably not his baptismal first name if he was Catholic.

Regards,
Sharyn

I'm David's gggg-granddaughter through his son James Cartwright. I have a lot of information about JC's descendants. I've been stumped for years however on JC's mother. Somehow, somewhere someone in my family has her name as Delia b. 1810, but she passed away and David married another woman and had several children with her. I'd be glad to share any info I have on the Dupuys, and I'd love to hear from other researchers on this family.

Christy Lockstein
