Hello Heather,
My ancestry also includes the Durands in Australia. However my Durand family line began in Oz with Joseph Vincent Durand from Ardiche b. Crest France, arv Aust free 1851 died in Gunnedah NSW. I have seen the names in question in many places while researching my Durand family, as I have an Alfred or two I stepped over your Albert! So you avoid the same mistake_my Alfreds_Alfred b.1877 married three times 1. Agnes Smith 2. Doreen Pedrotti 3. Lillian Louise Brier, Alfred; b.1903 m Elizabeth Cundy(as far as I am aware your Durands are not related to mine. If you have not already done so, check out the National Archives, TROVE, shipping records NSW & VIC) your family records are out there I have seen them, keep searching!
