Napoleon and Anna M Durant/Durand, Holyoke MA

I am looking for the death dates and burial locations of my g-grandparents, Napoleon Durant b. 1859, and Annie Dupras-Durant b. 1872.

Annie died between the 1920-1930 Censuses. Napoleon died sometime after the 1930 Census. They were both living in Holyoke MA at the times of their deaths. (They sometimes were recorded under both last names Durant and Durand).

If anyone can find their death dates and burial locations I would be very grateful if you could e-mail me at:
nicehuman7@gmail.com

Thank you,
Annie Hull-Hitchcock

Re: Durand from France

Hi Ellen,
We have corresponded before about August Durand; he was my greatgrandfather also. Recedntly I found some information on the internet posted by a Coulter family researcher who shows August Durand's wife Mary Tabitha Phillips as having had 4 children by her first husband, James Baughman. Our records show only one child, James Henry Baughman. The other tree also shows James' middle name as Lamar, not Henry. I think the Coulter information is incorrect (unless all 3 other children died in infancy). Do you have any thoughts on this?
Thanks.
Trudy
Hi Donna,

Did you find more about Peter Durand?
I've been told by another woman here that her Great Great Grandparents were Napoleon and Eliza Durand (Napoleons parents named on his Death record as Joseph Vincent and Elizabeth), Napoleon and Eliza had 3 children (that I can find) George Vincent Durand born 1883 Walgett NSW, Ivy Rose born 1890 Walgett NSW(she was my Grandmother)and Alice born 1894 Walgett NSW. George V married Caroline Keogh in 1908 Wyalong.

George V Durand is my husband's ancestor, but it's the first time I'd heard about Walgett - do you have more info too?
Cheers,
Jo

Hi Heather,

I'm married into Durands in Australia. My husband's Great Grandfather George Napoleon Durand migrated to Australia from Brittony (we think) in early 1800s. He married an Eliza (don't know surname) and had three children (as far as I and another woman searching Durand know) George, Ivy Rose and Alice.

Are you still looking for info?
Jo
My gg grandparents were also Thomas Geoffroi and Desiree Durand. I descend from Rachel Geoffroi who married Narcisse (Nelson) Denomme.

I have her sister Odile Geoffroi (which I believe is Delia), born 3 Mar 1867, died 6 Jul 1886... as married to August Ayotte...married on 7 Jan 1890.

I'm not sure if the dates are correct since I found this information from another family tree.

I just recently started to compile information for the Geoffroi and Durand line and would love to be in contact with you.

I was having a hard time finding information for Desiree Durand until I came across another post and found that her father was Jean Baptiste Durand and mother Lucille Geoffroi......Lucille and Thomas SR were brother and sister so my gg grandparents were cousins. I'm finding this happened quite often in the different family lines.

Would love to hear from you....my email is.....

patricia_schuler2001@yahoo.com

Thanks, Trish

It lines up with family history too. Unfortunently, I can not seem to trace her. She is supposedly from Louisiana (as the family has passed down). She was French?
Sue

I think your ancestor may be Spanish, not French and his name was Manuel Durand, not Maurice.

I pulled up the 1910 census which shows Henry T Durand and his three sons Henry E, Howard and Leland living in Montana. Henry T is listed as a widower. I didn't readily find them in the 1900 census but will give it another shot. The three boys are listed as having been born in Nebraska, with Father's place of birth AL and mother's as OH. The father Henry T appears to have been born in 1854 in AL and lists his parents place of birth as Spain and Ireland.

I found Henry T Duran (no D) born in AL in 1854 living in New Orleans in 1860, with his parents Manuel & Mary from Spain and Ireland respectively. Manuel is listed as an engineer.

There is a record in the ancestry passenger records into New Orleans for a Manuel Durand coming from LaHavre on the Queen Victoria. His place of origin is Spain. It could be hin but all the birthyears are off a few years.

I should mention I did find a Manuel Durand from Spain & about the right age in Baton Rouge in the 1850 census - unfortunately in the penitentary.

There is a death record for a baby girl (Mary Durand) in the 1860 US census mortality record in New Orleans, Ward 1 - where the Durands were in 1860 and she may have been Henry T's sister.

Wish some marriage records would have popped up so the wives names would be revealed.

My family from Alabama and Louisiana is both French and Spanish and I find it challenging to track them sometimes because they use the French and Spanish versions of names interchangably. I guess if a French person was taking the census then the names were French that year - and same for the Spanish or even English record keepers. My ancestors can appear as Juan, Jean or John...

Hope this helps. If I come across anything more I'll post here.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, "Durand" is like "Smith" in England, "Kim" in Lorea, or "Santos" in Brazil. We are too many to only know if we are related.
My own family is from the west coast of France, but I know some non-related "durand" in the east or arround the French Riviera.
Sorry ! I can't be more accurate.

You are dealing with variant spellings of the names.
Leo Cadieux would be Leocadie.
Seymour is an Americanization of the surname Simard.
This might be your couple:
Joseph Durand s/o Joseph Durand and Josephte Savard
married 7 Mar 1848 St Alphonse de Liguori, Saguenay
Leocadie Simard d/o Alexis Simard and Elisabeth Tremblay.

Chris
She died in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, and is buried in St. Joseph's cemetery in Red Lake Falls (information is online at stjosephsrlf.org/cemetery/) as Leocadie Simore Durand. I am her gggranddaughter through Julia Durand Bourdon and her daughter, Clara Bourdon Jackson.

I am looking for the wife of Joseph Durand. He was born 02 Mar 1820 in Quebec and was married possibly Leo Cadieux Seymour about 1855. This is just a name someone sent with no documentation and couldn't remember where he found it. I hesitated to even add it, but just on the outside chance its correct, it might help find her and her parents.

Joseph Durand had a daughter, Julia, also born in Quebec, Nov 15, 1862. She died Jan 23, 1937. Julia married John Baptiste Bourdon, Jan 2, 1884 in Red Lake Co., Minnesota. Joseph's other children were Isabel, Louise, Eli, Frank, Mary and George.

Joseph Durand was a carpenter - Was in the Great Chicago Fire.
Basile Durand (b.1783) and M. Judith Brassard

Basile (Joseph DURAND and M. Angelique ROY POTDEVIN / POITEVIN) and Judith (daughter of Joseph BRASSARD and Marie Anne FORTIN PARIS) are my 3rd great-grandparents. They are the only one of my DURAND families where details are more than a little sketchy. I have Basile's birthdate, but no date of death. For Judith, I have neither. I show six children born in the marriage (not sure if that's all): M. Genevieve (1810-20); Basile-II (b.1811); Joseph (1813-13); Joseph (b.1815); Marguerite (b.1818); Jean Baptiste (b.1819). Both Basile-II (my great-great-grandfather) and his brother, Jean Baptiste, migrated to Huron County, Ontario and I do have details of their respective families.
Does anyone know any or all of the information I'm missing? Date of death for Basile-I, dates of birth and death for Judith; if there were more children; actual dates of birth for the children; what happened with Joseph and Marguerite? I note that a BRASSARD site shows Basile-I died about 1871 in Huron County, Ontario. Did Basile and Judith migrate from Quebec in the 1850s (when Basile-I would have been well into his sixties)?
Any help would be much appreciated.
There is another researcher below who is probably working on the same family as you - Sharra. I have a list of 'unknown' Durands around Southwest Louisiana who I have not been able to connect together. One of those families is Jean Marie Durand Adeline LeJeune. See my email to Sharra. Have you ordered Jean Marie Durand's succession? It was opened Sept 21, 1867 in Opelousas Courthouse #3036. It most likely is written in French but it still would be worth a try to see what family members are listed.
Hi

I descend from Durands who settled in Mobile Alabama but am not certain there is a connection to yours. My 4great grandmother was named Jeanne (Jane) Durand. She was likely born in France but may have been born in America. She married Joseph Delchamp who came from France about 1818. They had one son, John Julius Delchamps, who was born in Savannah. Sometime after he was born the family moved to Mobile. Jeanne's brother Alexis Durand also moved to Mobile and died there. I have not seen his will myself but have heard that he did not have children and left his estate to his nephew so I don't think your line could have come from him. It is possible Jeanne had other siblings though, but I have not been able to determine that for sure.
Good luck with your Durands.

Ila F. Durand

I am unsure if any of the information is completely accurate that I have on my great-grandmother but this is what I've got:

Ila F. Durand born 1902 in Michigan (that's a possibility never been proven). She married a Warren M Ball and had 3 or more children - all boys.

If anyone has any information on her other than what I have, or at least to confirm what I have it would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!!
