ALEXANDER DURANT, SON OF BENJAMIN DURANT AND SOPHIE MIGILVRIE

I've just rencently discovered that my GGG Grandfather is Alexander "Sandy" Durant of Pascagoula/Mississippi Territory/Pensacola who married Maria Rebeca Hartley.

It is said he was born around 1769 and died in Tampa Bay about 1816-1818. The only bit of information I am certain of is that his wife surfaced in Cuba in 1834 with two daughters - Teresa Durant and Josefa Durant.

I am trying to find more information about him and his life; he seems to be the only child of Benjamin and Sophie that is not chronicled in depth.

Would appreciate any information you can shed on this. Thank you.

I've just discovered that my GGG Grandfather was Alexander "Sandy" Durant, son of Benjamin Durant and Sophie Magilvrey - is there any information about Alexander in your book?

There is little information about Alexander anywhere. His wife Maria Rebeca Hartley surfaces in Cuba in 1834 with two daughters Teresa Durant and Josefa Durant in detailed documents that I discovered recently from the Cathedral in Havana, Cuba. Thank you !!

James had several sisters. Her dad's name was Willie Jennings and he was married to Ellen. For some reason I believe Willie had a brother named Roscoe. I'm just trying to put the pieces together. I know a lot of times, family members named their kids after their aunts, uncles etc. Just wondering if there is any relation. I am also african american and I am looking for my family.

Hello,

I don't know if you know this or not but Stephen Harris Durant & Ann Cristy had son William Clark Durant who mar. Rebecca Folger Crapo and their son William Crapo Durant was the founder of General Motors.

Now I am told that my Durant's are kin to them, but just can't make the connection.

I also read that Ann Cristy Durant is buried with her husb. I think her parents might have just put all of their childrens names, births & deaths on their stone for whatever reason and most likely some of them are buried with them there. But all I find points to Ann being buried with her husb. Stephen Harris Durant, Sr.

Nola

William (1787 - ), John (1789 - ), Mary (1790 - 1865, married John Pointer 1813 Binham Priory, Norfolk - whose son William Pointon is my gt gt grandfather), John (1793 - ), Joseph (1795 - 1874), Alice (1798 - ) and Susanna (1805 - 1835). Has anyone been able to locate birth / baptism records for the Emerson children?
thanks

I really appreciate your efforts. I thought of another way, do you have any info on Jefferson Durant's children? I know another child was named/nicknamed Chuka as he is named in the same probate records as Louisa. If I can get the other kids' names, maybe I can find their enrollments and get more info that away.

Teresa

I have a document that shows that Penelope owed money to Samuel Coats and his will left land to his brother Anthony. The document shows that just enough land was sold to meet the debt owed and allow Penelope to live on in the home. Dated 1735 and Norfolk is listed as place. Also King George is mentioned. There was a Norfok in Mass., and maybe elsewhere....If this sounds like something your looking for - contact me.

Anyway, came across your offer to someone else to share info on siblings of Wilson Durant.
My granddaughter in a descendant of Jefferson Durant.

Particularly interested in his children and their mother(s).
For jefferson's children, I found one list that noted only the indian names, but in the gaurdianship papers jefferson's daughter is listed as Louisa. Louisa is my granddaughter's gr.gr.gr.gr.grandmother. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Teresa

Sorry I can't tell you more about Francis Durant. Here is what I don have from several sources:

1852, Canada, ON, Dundas, Williamsburg
Frances is living with his son, Frances and his daughter in law, Ann
Frances Durant, laborer, b. Canada, Roman Catholic, widowed, 72

Marlene O'Neil: In 1851 Williamsburg Census he was listed as a widower and living with his son Francis and is 71 years old. 1871 Francis Durant, age 92, Roman Catholic, French, Dundas, Williamsburg. Status in 1871 is wdower. He appers to be still head of household and his son Francis and family are living at the homestead. per Census he moved from Lachute to Williamsburg about 1835.

1871 Census DURANT , FRANCIS
Sex:	Male
Age:	92
Birthplace:	QUEBEC
Religion:	Roman Catholic
Origin:	FRENCH
District:	DUNDAS ( 071 )
Sub-district:	Williamsburg ( C )
Division:	3
Page:	24
Microfilm reel:	C-10,006
Reference:	RG31 — Statistics Canada

Name: Francis DURANT 1 Sex: M Birth: 1780 in Lachute, Quebec Note: Referenced in 1871 Census Census: 1851 Williamsburg, Dundas County, Ontario Note: Census age is 71 Census: 1861 Williamsburg, Dundas County, Ontario Note: Gives birth place as Lower Canada Burial: 1872 Elma United Church Cemetary, Ontario, Canada Death: 19 APR 1872 in Elma, Dundas Co., Ontario, Canada 1 Residence: 1832 Williamsburg, Dundas County, Ontario Note: Moved on this date from Lachute Census: 1835 Quebec Note: Verfies birth place Religion: Roman Catholic Note: In 1851 Williamsburg Census he was listed as a widower and living with his son Francis and is 71 years old - his son is 2. 1871 Census Francis Durant, age 92, Roman Catholic, French, Dundas, Williamsburg. Status in 1871 is widower. He appears to be still head of household and his son Francis and family are living at the homestead. Per Census he moved from Lachute to Williamsburg about 1835 Change Date: 9 NOV 2002

Marriage 1 Minerva BIRCH b: ABT 1780
Married: ABT 1798 in St. Andrews Church East, Quebec (Must be verified)
Children
John Volyn DURANT b: 1800 in Lower Canada, Quebec
Francis J. DURANT b: 1811 in Lachute, Quebec, Canada
Charles A. DURANT b: 7 OCT 1814 in Lachute, Quebec
Alexander DURANT b: 3 OCT 1825 in Lachute, Quebec

From Gordon Strader: The traditional story of the Durants coming into Ontario was that Francis Durant Sr. with 4 sons came to a farm located between Dunbar and Elma. The four sons were John Volyn (b. 1800) with wife Rosella Dupreau; Francis Jr.(b. 1812) with wife Ann Hudbson (on tombstone) (Hudson on other documents); Charles (b. 1815)and Alexander, (b. 1825). Note there is no mention of the wife of Francis Sr. The traditional date I heard quoted by some of the elderly for the treck into Ontario was 1832. Alex would be only 7 years old.
Erva (nee Armstrong)Durant, wife of Ronald Durant has located the Durants, Armstrong and Barkley families as very close neighbors in the Elma district. Tom Henderson operates a slaughter house on what he claims was the Peter Barkley Farm. It is about 1 mile due East of Elma. The recorded ages on the census I use only as a guide (not too accurate). John Volyn was born 1800, would be 52 in 1852. His son William, born 1830, would have been 22 years old in 1852. These are the only possible John and William Durants in that area at or near that time.

What can you tell me about Minerva's family?
