Hi, my name is Ronald Bravo and I think I am a second cousin once removed. My grandfather was Romeo Durden, younger brother to Evalina Durden. Romeo's mother, Georgiana's last address was on 42nd St. In Los Angeles. She had become blind. She lived with 3 of her children; Daisy, Donnie (Sister Girl), and Graffey (my great uncle whom we called Boy). I never met Georgiana, she passed away a few years before I was born (I was born in 1949), but I do remember often visiting the home while her 3 children were still living there. My grandfather, Romeo Landis Durden, always called her Georgi.

Can someone help me to research on the time of Suzanna Brack-Smith's date of death? Suzanna is a mystery, I've been searching on something for Suzanna for years now. Its been around 5 years. Suzanna Brack Smith, was born in Tennessee 1889, She died in Detroit Michigan, if you find something, can you please send it to my e-mail: marvabrazelton@yahoo.com I want to order (purchase) a deathcertificate. I was 9 when aunt Suzanna died, I remember crying when my mom told me I was too young to attend her funeral. I thought it was 1963, my sisters told me it was winter of 1962. She was born in Kentucky, lived in Illinois, born in Tennessee. Had 5 daughters. Thanks.

However, I can't find any information on his mom's side of the tree.

I am looking for any information on John or Shirley Durden or their ancestors/descendants. I believe both John and Shirley were born in the 1940s and Shirley died in 1988. If you have an information on the Durden family line, I would greatly appreciate it. Please understand I really am trying to help him with his family tree and I'm not just looking for ways to contact his living family members (that's another issue all together) - please don't let that be a reason not to share any information you might have.

I think I counted all those greats correctly down from Simeon to George Dallas Durden to Cordia (Pinkie) Durden Chance. Pinkie is my paternal great grandmother.

There are a lot of people related to these bubbas that have been trying to link them. There is no proof that I know of that links Francis to the Emmanuel Durdens. I do think though, based on ages and proximity that Stephen (b1760) Francis (b1770) and Lewis (b1780) are brothers. It appears that Francis upon arrival in Georgia lived with Stephen in 1794 according to Wash Co. Tax Records. I haven't worked this line in a while out of frustration. The only next step is to wade into the Georgia Archives the next chance I get.

Ihave found a new cousin who is looking for info on her grandfather, Charles Spurgeon Durden. His parents were James Durden and Harriett Godfey. James was the son of Lewis and Bedy Durden and grandson of William Durden and Martha Tucker. Charles had these siblings: Carlos J., Chauncey W., Ivey B., Mollie, Elizabeth, Carrie and Claudia. I had a bit of info on Carlos, though not much but didn't know about his siblings. William Durden is my 3x great grandfather twice over thru his children, Patience and Matthew, and is my new cousin, Debra's, 3x great grandfather, too. If anyone has any info on Charles, pleae contact me at stormykc381@aol.com

Hi! This is Curtis responding to your research. I noticed you mentioned that you went to Pondtown cemetery. On your drive to there you had to make right turn-correct? Well the house that sits on your left at the top of the hill as you turn belongs to some of my people. My people are also buried there! I can't help you much but somehow we are related. Long distace cousins? My Mother is still with us and perhaps she can find more information for you from her sisters. My Granddaddy Burch was a first cousin to one of the Durdens. He was born in 1899,this won't help for the persons you are looking for but maybe soon I can. Take care and Happy Holidays! Curtis

I wish I *did* have more information. I went back and looked at the sources I have for ancestors in the Durden line, and some of them are absolutely obvious, but they aren't so great between William Durdin(o) and William Caspar Durden. In any case, I did find an interesting record called the official history of Elbert County, http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=22883, which has a list of generations and marriages. Please let me know if you learn anything!

(Oh, yeah, and one of the Durdens won land in the "Cherokee Land Lottery" which might have led to a legend about Cherokee ancestry, but I don't know.)

Hi,

I too am descended from William Durden and Mary Dekle. I have the same info you have and my grandmother, Gertrude Durden Temples told me that we have indian blood and just looking at her and her children you can definitely see it. I did run across some info about an area of Emanuel County called Rosemount where a lot of the Durdens lived and in that info it said that the Durdens married Cherokee Indians.
As to who our Indian ancestor was I don't know.

I have another puzzle. Our ancestor John Durden B. 1710 in Isle of Wight, Va. D. 1798 in North Carolina according to our family history was married to Mary Elizabeth Dandridge. This info was given to me by my aunt and I have found it in several other places but have also found that he was married to a Mary Coleman. My aunt said that Mary Elizabeth Dandridge was the sister of Martha Dandridge Washington. I have found that Mary Elizabeth Dandridge was married to a John Aylett and a Henley. So now I'm confused. Do you have any info on this?

She had a child out of wedlock and gave him her family name Durden. My grandfather was Jesse James Durden, married Anna Bell Ford. They had 2 daughters Elizabeth, Carolyn and 3 sons James, Malcom (Durk), and Kelly. My father is 83 years young living in Perry florida.

Steve, I see in my records that you are the son of Clifford Nickerson and Helen Gordon. I am grandaughter of Minnie's sister Lillian DeCoste Groves. Minnie was temporary guardian of my father, Henry Durden from about 1932-1937, and he lived in the same home as Earl, William, and Clifford. I'm working with Rosemary who is the grandaughter of Minnie's sister Helena, and daughter of Robert Graham. We are looking for family photos. Hopefully you have a good one of Minnie, since we only have 1 photo of her.
Hi! Another Durden heard from? I am trying to track down Durdens, Durdins, or Dardins who lived in emmanuel county GA. I too have always heard about Indian blood in the family, and I was really interested to hear that there might be african american as well.

My gr-grandmother was Lillian Durden, who married a William Augustus Gray--she died young.I cannot trace the Grays back earlier than William Augustus with any certainty, and have always wondered where that lineage came from.

Lillian was a daughter of Berrien Walter Durden, who was the son of Dennis Durden. His father was William Casper Durdin, the son of William "Durdino."William Durdino William Durdino was born in Isle of Wight, VA, as was his son--William Durdino died in Dobbs, N. Carolina; William Caspar died in Emmanuel County GA -- all of the previous generations in the US were from "Isle of Wight, VA." William's father was John Dardin, the son of Jacob Dardin. Jacob's father was apparently also named Jacob, and his father, from Lancashire England, was Stephan Darden.

Does anyone know much about this part of the family? Thanks!

I was asked by the family if I knew where our grandmother Minnie was buried and when she died. I remember a Roy Durden when I was growing up but that was it. I also remember my uncle Bucky who owned the Big Wheel restaurant in West Gloucester. If you have any questions about this end of the family please let know. I'm what you would call a newbie to this.

Steve
