I have been trying to trace you from a 2007 post on Rootsweb.
Herbert and Harriet Durrant's daughter Margaret Sarah O Durrant was married to Alfred Douglas Fayers Dawson, my Nan's brother, and my great uncle. I have a photo of them at their Golden Wedding anniversary.
All the Dawsons called Margaret "Daisy", simply because she disliked the name so much!

According to FamilySearch.org, Elizabeth was Jane & Johns' firstborn (abt 1684). This site is reputable & free (I just overlook the LDS propaganda). It's also fairly easy to search. I hope this helps & I'd love to hear from you again.

Hi, I am hoping that you can help me. My line is supposed to descend from Elizabeth Hanham and William Durant as well. I was told that Elizabeth Hanham's parents were Sir John Hanham and Jane Eyre. I looked them up and there is no record of them having a daughter named Elizabeth. Have you found anything on Elizabeth or William?

I am still trying to put things together on the family tree from my end. Not sure if I will get chance to visit Somerset House. I will definitely check into the possiblity once I review the copy of the family tree you have. Not sure if it is the correct ancestry linkage, although the names are so close in names.

John & Mary were my great grandparents. My their youngest son Henry Lawrence Durrant was my grandfather, I have a 1911 census record your welcome to which gives info on the later sons born. I dont know much about this side of the family sadly as my Parents & Grandparents came out to NZ in 1958-60, I dont even have any family photos of that side of the family. The name of a wife Mrs Burcher, refers to the entry below him but is in his square on the sheet.

I have looked at the image of Thomas Hilgrone DURRANT's emigration and he was British West Indian, born in Somerset, Bermuda. On the image he was married but cannot quite make out the name of his wife.

I have found a Thomas Henry DURRANT born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, England in 1868. He is in the 1871 census with his parents and siblings. If you have an ancestry.co.uk account you can view the census records for the UK. If not, then let me know and I will transcribe it for you.

If you are certain he was in the Military in Bermuda, then you will need access to said records to view his signing up papers where it might give his place of birth and his next of kin and their address. Or he may have emigrated to Canada prior to being enlisted.

I will make a few checks around English records for military and emigration to see if I can find a Thomas Henry DURRANT.

Do you have his marriage certificate which may show his origin and his Father's name and occupation. This will help narrow him down to a parent at least.

Let me know if you find anything on official records you may have access to.

Sorry for such a long time in following up on this. No, my father is not John Henry Durrant.
I am looking for Thomas Henry Durrant born 1868- died 1953 and married Susan Anne Evans(Annie)born 1853- died 1851.
They had quite at least 11 children(6 boys and 4 girls) The oldest born 1891 Thomas Hilgrove Durrant, youngest born 1912 Olive Vistula Lovejoy Durrant.
I know my dad Bannister Stafford Durant(known as 'Johnny' the plumber to everyone in his older years) was born in Toronto, Canada and left there when he was 10yrs old to live with his Aunt Vistula in Bermuda.
Any help with the family connections would really be appreciated.

We were at cross purposes! None of the names in your family tree link up with mine at the moment. As I research further I'll keep them in mind. It seems that Durrant is a very common name in East Anglia.

Seems that we are doomed to be at cross purposes! To clarify matters I am suggesting that I have an Edward Durrant, a Mariner, born in Snape who along with his wife in the 1820's moved to Mistley which might have been a link for you.
Most of his children were born there and in 1841 and 1851 resided at a place called Quay, Mistley. The names of the children (all Durrants) were Mary Ann, Maria, Sarah, John, Edward, George, Harriet and Charlote.

That makes sense then! Can you tell me more about your Stephen Durrant. Do you know where he lived in Mistley? Mine was living inFurze (often reported Darze Lane) when the 1941 Census was taken and in Alpha Cottage, Mistley with his daughter Elizabeth in 1851.
He was my 3 X Gt Grandfather. How does he relate to you?

I would think that there is a fair chance that your Durrants were related to mine. I have an Edward born Snape, Suffolk 1797 but had his family in Quay/Mistley, or Manningtree Essex in the 1820 and 1830's.

I have traced the male line of my family back to Stephen Durrant born in Wix Essex about 1782. he was married to Ann(nee)? and they had three children William, James and Elizabeth. In 1841 Stephen was living in Furze Lane, Mistley, Essex with all his family.

Does anyone have knowledge of Ann's maiden name or information about Stephen?

You have asked my father Michael this question, he does not reply to them as I have taken over this tree for him. There are far too many Durrants in Kirdford and they use so few first names that it is very difficult to tease them out.

I believe I am descended from a James Durrant who was born or baptised in Kirdford. I think he may have lived in Byworth/Petworth and/or Coates.

However, there appear to have been a few James Durrants around the area. I am having difficulty working out which belongs to which family. Can anyone help with a family tree of Durrants in and around the Kirdford and Petworth areas?

Even if it doesn't relate to my line it may help me to eliminate some other families. Presumably all these Durrants are related at some point...

I am researching a William Durrant, in fact he is one of a possible two. They being one Christened in Kirdford, 21.5.1729. and Death. 7.11.1809. and the second Christened 17.12.1732 and Death. 9.4.1807.

One Married an Ann Puttick (My Relative) 26.11.1754. and the other Married Mary Holden 14.5.1758.

My problem being which William married which girl?. Any clues in your records that gives the answers to this mystery, would save me a long trip to Chichester from Nutfield. Surrey.,which may or may not solve my problem.

My ancestor is George Durrant born Fitzroy Square London. moved to Chaddesley Corbett , Worcestershire, and was a tailor. He was born 1815 and his father was also George Durrant. Family story is that a Durrant ancestor was french and was executed in the French revolution. any info would be wonderful!!!

I am looking for the Grandparents of Daniel Durant 1824-1862. He was married to Elizabeth Donovan. The 1851 Cencus show them living in Bermondsey London. His parents I am told were Charles Durant c1799 & Maria?. Daniel states he was born Bromley Essex. I can find no marriage cert of Charles & Maria. Charles died Poplar 1843.

Hello Caren, my name is June Child (Durant). I live in Sydney Australia. I am trying to trace a Charles Durant c1800, married to Maria?. Dorset seem's to come up as a possible match, parents, William & Ann.The only information I have is that 1841 cencus shows Charles living in Middlesex, London, stating, not born in county. As you know place of birth was not asked in 1841 Cencus. Charles's children were all christened sirname, Durrant. Sadley Charles passed away 1844 so I have no further information. Any information you could pass on would be greatly appreciated.

I have just started researching my family tree and my great grandmothers name was Mary Ann Durrant and she came from Risby, Suffolk. She was born in 1855 and died in 1898. She married Charles William Ollington in 1880. I wondered if this has any connection to your Durrants I would be interested to find out.

As far as I can found out, Ernest Arthur or Arthur Ernest's father was John Durrant born about 1854 in Walton and his mother was a lady called Emma Chapman.

My mother was a Durrant born in Walton in 1913. I can trace her family back to about 1850 but I'm not sure if this is the same family. Her name was Jessie Violet May, her fathers name was Arthur Ernest or Ernest Arthur (depending on which record you look at) born in 1877. Be interested to know if this is the same family.
