I would like to invite anyone who has hit a brick wall or wants find their early Durrett ancestor to paricipate in Family Tree DNA's Holiday Sale.

This offer is for Durrett males who have not already participated in our DNA project and who wants to determine who their early Durrett ancestors were. By participating in the Durrett DNA Project you can possibly break down your brick wall and hopefully find your direct line back to Colonial Virginia.

We also need Durrett males who live in England and France to participate in our DNA project. We know that the Duret’s (original spelling) came from France, however, we cannot connect back to France or England until we find Durrett males from these countries who are willing to participate in our project. I would like to encourage those who live in a foreign country to participate in our project.

We desperately need Durrett males i.e., father, brother, uncle or cousin to participate. We do have scholarships available to defray the cost if anyone is interested. This is on a first come first-serve basis.

By doing a DNA test, you might find that your Durrett family connects to one of the following Durrett lines. The more people we have tested the closer we come to Solving the Durrett Mystery.

Hi Everyone

We have someone who has done a DNA test for Col Richard Durrett Sr died 8 Oct 1784 in, Albemarle County, Virginia burial Wakefield Plantation, Earlysville, Albemarle County, Virginia. The results show that Col Richard Durrett Sr is NOT from Bartholomew's line. His father's name was John Durrett and his mother's name was Mary maiden name unknown from St George Parish Virginia. The DNA results show that Col Richard Durrett Sr d. 1784 is related to Richard Durrett born 7 Jan 1712, Albemarle Co, VA died 4 Jul 1767 Spotsylvania County, Virginia m. Sarah Marshall. It is unknown at this time how exactly they are related.

Do you have the names, dob, etc for the children of Thomas Davis Durrett married to Mary Alice (Frances) Hall? Was William Richard Durrett name (Williams Richard or William Richard)? What was his date of death? Did your uncle Edward B 1905 marry and have any children? If so, what were their names, etc.

Who did your mother Leona Mary Durrett marry?

My great grandfather's name was Raymond "Dock" Durrett (1833-1957). His father was Anderson H. Durrett (1833). The other headstone I found says Anderson H. Durrett, Jr. (1857-1887). I'm assuming he was AH Durrett's son. I do know that Raymond Durrett was the youngest of several children of AH Durrett, Sr. Was just curious if AH Durrett, Jr. ever married or had any kids. He was only 30 years old when he died.

Does anyone have any info about A.H. Durrett, Jr.? I found his headstone in our family cemetery in Parker County, TX. Dates on headstone say 1857-1887. All I know is he was my great grandfather's brother. Was curious if he ever married or had a family.

We know that Joel's father was Bartholomew Durrett and his mother's name remains UNKNOWN, at this time. It also UNKNOWN who Bartholomew's parents were.

Information on #1- William Samuel Durrett b 3-4-1853 Carolina Co, VA, married to Mary F Seal b 8-31-1856 Carolina Co, VA,
Son was James H Durrett b 7-18-1887 Carolina Co, VA, married to Mary Elizabeth ?? b 1896 VA. James and Mary Elizabeth had 6 children: J Tyrus b 1913, Ruby E b 1915,Clifton F b 1919, Raymond E b 1922, Loretta B b 1925, Samuel Addison b 1927. Do not have any information on the parents of James wife Mary Elizabeth.

Do not have the parents of Ruby's spouse Robert Russell Beasley.

I think I may have found Lucretia Durrett's parents. The names I've come up with are Thomas Pike and Elizabeth Haymore. Have you heard of them? They married in 1786 in Brunswick, VA. George and Lucretia moved to Illinois but I'm not sure when.

I have Lucy Chewning's parents as Samuel Chewning b 21 Jan 1721 in Middlesex Co & Jeanette Nancy Ann Garrett. I'm a little mixed up about the dates you posted, so help me sort it out. Do you know when John Resin Smith marr Lucy? I also had that most of their children were b in Culpeper Co before they removed to Green Co KY. I have their 1st child being b abt 1799. I don't see how Bartholomew could be Joel's father if he was b abt 1700. I have Sarah being b abt 1750 so I assume Joel would have been b abt the same period unless he was much older than her. Any idea when Joel marr Sarah? Let me know what you think.

Unfortunately I don't have information on Lucy Chewning and her marriage/children/etc.
As far as Bartholomew goes, my dates for his birth are closer to the 1710 time period. (?)
I have 1742 for Joel Durrett's birthdate and about 1747-1748 for Sarah Chewning's.
The date for their marriage was 1768.

Rebecca was the daughter of John A. Durrett. She was born and reared in Tuscaloosa County. John was the eldest son of Thomas and Rebecca Alewine. John was born in Newberry Sc. He moved to Ala in 1818. He was a confederated soldier and died in Tuscaloosa Ala. in 1910. I hope this is correct.

Is this the Benjamin Durrett born 12-4-1769 died 5-19-1827 in Tuscaloosa Ala? He married Margaret Hogg daughter of John and Margaret Hogg. Margaret Hogg Durrett was born 1789 in Newberry SC and died 5-28-1839. Benjamin's parents were Thomas Durrett and Agnes Gorree. Waiting to hear.

I am from the Bartholomew line of Durrett's. The information I have is: his brother, Richard, in1738 patented 300 acres of land on Priddy's creek in Hanover County Va. Richard Durrett made his will July 28th, 1767 and it was filed and proved in Spotyslvania County Va. July 4th 1769.

I have information on Jonathan Jackson Durrett B:6-1824 (father Jonthan Durrett married to Mary "Polly" Lively)married (8-20-1846)to Susan Jones (b1825, D 9-1862) with the following children: Thomas Henry b 6-1850, Nelson S b5-1851, Emelia B b5-1853, Virginia M b 4-1854, Edward M b 11-1856

He had the following children with Margaret Tompkins(married 6-7-1866):
Thomas J b1868, Robert William b 9-1870, Frances B b 1-1873, Albert b 8-1875, Laurie b??

My line is Durrett. I have George and Lucy in my data base with the following information: I have Thomas Pike and Sarah ?? as the parents of Lucy. I do not have a "Source" record for this information. My notes state that George and Lucy moved to Ill (Petersburgh, Menard Co) about 1842. George is listed on the voter rolls for this town and county.

I have them listed on the 1850 Federal Census for 1850 in Menard Co, ILL. They are also mentioned in the Virginia Genealogist Volume 15, page 285.

Joy,I am a descentant of Richard Durrett who married Sarah Hampton. These are the Durrett's that lived and died at "Wakefield" in Albemarle VA. The house still stands and there is a family plot at the rear of the property.
Richard Durrett was born about 1722 in Albemarle Co VA. Richard married Sarah in 1742 Albemarle Co, she died in 1783 (about) and he died in 1784 Oct.18th.
I had to trace my family for joining the DAR and the Richard Durrett who was related to Barthalamew Durrett served in the American Revolution.
Now Sarah's family was William Hampton born 9 Oct 1685 of Gloucester Va, died 1750 Stafford Co Va and married in 1721 to Martha Catlett born 1690 Hanover VA, died 1761 Caroline Co VA.

From Richard and Sarah had Richard Durrett born 1746 in Albemarle Co.Va, he married Elizabeth Davis in 1768 , they had John Davis Durrett born 19 June 1773. He married Frances Davis 20 Nov 1797.

Then Richard and Lucy had Thomas Davis Durrett born Apr 7 11844, married to Mary Alice Hall born 20 Oct 1850, they were married 29 Jan 1867. They had my grandfather Williams Richard Durrett born 11 Feb 1868, he married Charlotte Leone VanderEspt, they had 6 children and one of them was my mother Leona Mary Durrett born 20 Jan 1910 she died 5 OOct 1977.

"On the Motion of David Vawter to have a Veiw for a road to turn out at the dividing Line between Benjamin Head and

I found road orders ALBEMARLE COUNTY ROAD ORDERS 1783-1816

Here are my questions. I hope someone can answer my questions.
I found 2 John Durrett's in the road orders book in ALBEMARLE COUNTY Road ORDERS. The 1st one is found on 1 September 1806 and the other John W. Durrett is found on 4 February 1811. It seems to me there are two John Durrett's or was there one John Durrett. Can anyone answer this question and who were their parents?

Here is what I have found.

Davis Durrett is appointed Surveyor of the road from Nelson Barksdales to John W Durretts Shop & the hands of Richard Durrett Douglass Bowcocke & Joseph Twyman are assigned him to keep the same in good repair.

Who is John W. Durrett and what did he do at his shop? And Richard Durrett must be Richard Durrett Jr. married Elizabeth Davis. If this is not Richard Durrett Jr. then which Richard Durret is he?

"Accordingly, it was decided to investigate the development of the roads of Albemarle County during the period 1725-1925 as a pilot project, and to use this experience to produce a "History of Albemarle County Roads" and a procedural handbook for the writing of Road
Histories. During the early stages of this project it was necessary to examine and extract all the Road Orders for the Counties from which Albemarle was formed as well as the Orders for Albemarle when it still contained the Counties of Amherst, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Nelson, and
a part of Appomattox. The Road Orders concerning Albemarle will ultimately be published with the Road History but the broad applicability of those for Goochland, Louisa and early Albemarle, and the opinions of various authorities throughout the state who have examined them, indicate
that they should have separate publication in order to make them generally available to individual scholars through libraries and educational institutions. Therefore, this publication has been prepared."

I found on Heritage Quest in the Book Called
A history of two Virginia families transplanted from County Kent, England : Thomas Baytop, Tenterden, 1638 and John Catlett, Sittingbourne, 1622 New Orleans, La.: unknown, 1918, 176 pgs.
On page 36 " it states that "Martha, d. 1760 m. William Hampton d. 1750, and had issue (a) Edward (b)George marr. Mary Colston, (e) Thomas Catlett, marr and left decendents in King William Co.; (d) John, d. in Stafford Co. and has numerous decendents in and near Clarksville, Tenn (e) Susannah, marr. John Quarles; (f) Frances, marr. Thomas Buckner, of Carolina Co.; (g) Sarah m. Richard Durrett, of Carolina County; (h)William."

Does anyone have documentation as to which Richard this is? It is believed it is Richard Durrett of Albemarle Co, VA m. Sarah Hampton, but does anyone have documentation stating this.

It has been stated Richard Durrett of Albemarle Co. VA and Richard Durrett of Carolina County are the same person. Does anyone have documentation showing this to be true.

And does anyone have documenation as to when Richard Durrett who married Sarah Hampton was born and where? Or any ideas where to look.

Recent information shows that Richard Durrett's father's name is John NOT Bartholomew as previously thought.

We do not know if John and Bartholmew were brothers or if they were even related. That is what we are trying to prove through the Durrett DNA Project located at Family Tree DNA. We need more Durrett men to come forward and do a DNA test so we can solve this mystery.

Family Tree is having a special until the end of July 2009. So if you are a Durrett male or know of a Durrett male we would like to invite them to join the Durrett DNA project.
