Can anyone tell me anything about Townsend Duryea , photographer, born Long Island NY in about 1818? Father probably Hewlett Duryea (General Hiram Duryea's brother - of Civil War Starch Manufacturing fame). Townsend's brother was Sanford Duryea. Townsend married Madalina Paff (children Augustus Susan Anne), then married Mary Elizabeth Smith. Townsend and Mary came to Australia in approx 1853 where their children were born (Townsend jn - perhaps born in NY, Edwin, Richard, Frank, Elizabeth). He then married Catherine Elizabeth Friggins had another 5 children! I know from here on, but am anxious to find some pre Australian information.
