I am a relatively new subscriber to Ancestry.com and came across your recent post regarding the Dutt family. I have been researching my relative Christian Dutt who was the owner of a woolen mill in West Chester, PA. One of his siblings was the owner of the Midnight Yarn Co in Philadelphia, PA. Please feel free to contact me if you think there is a connection and you would be interested in corresponding.

RUDOLPH BERTRAM DUTT

I am looking for information on Rudolph Bertram Dutt, borrn 1889. He lived in Philadelphia, and owned a textile mill at one point I believe. He also was the head of the SPCA for a period of time. He married Margaret Kappler and had one child Mary Anne. I believe he died sometime in the 50s, but that could be wrong. Though I never met him, he is my maternal grandfather and I would love any information about him; he is proving to be quite difficult in getting details about his life!

These pages were going to be destroyed but I took them to put on this site.

On the binding - "Holy Bible" and "Jacob G.

I think we may be working on the same lineage. My connection is via Anna Maria Dutt whose father was David Dutt of Germany. As far as I've been able to figure, the roots were in Wurttemberg, Germany. I also, not too long ago, found some old photos taken in Germany of women dressed in some sort of traditional dress. There was no writing on the photos indicating who these women were, exactly, but I'm fairly certain they are either Dutt or Schaufele ancestors who were from my great grandmother's side of the family.

Leslie (AZ)

Trying to research Anna Maria Dutt who married John Schaufele in about 1857 in Germany. I'm finding two possibilities for her parents: David Dutt with wife Anna Marie Pfluger and David Dutt who married Cathatina Barbara Knapp in 1816. Both couples show having a daughter by the name of Anna Maria. Have no idea who her siblings were or if there were any . . . John & Anna Maria had four children: John J, Mary, Emma and Loouisa all born in MI.
Am seriously "stuck" trying to locate this family history/ancestors.
Hello Angela: I too am researching Dutt heritage and although I have no reason to believe that our lines cross I was able to find the following information for you:

Philip Dutt died 5/28/1929 and was the son of Frederick & Christena Mae Weist Dutt. Philip married Mary A. Schuster on 3/17/1904 in Marion, OH. Mary died 7/6/1956 and was the daughter of Frank Schuster & Louisa Wilhemina Thibaut Schuster.

The info was found in the LDS files at http://www.familysearch.org . Becuase this is more recent history you can probably find these people in the 1900's Census files from Ohio as well.

Good luck.

Leslie

Ellis, age 15 <1905>. They're shown on lines 90, 91 & 92. I viewed the original page online which is faded and difficult to read but perhaps you can access another copy that's easier to view. The repot shows that all of these individuals were born in MI as were their parents.

Good Luck!!!

Leslie

ANNA MARIA DUTT m. JOHN SCHAUFELE in 1857

John & Anna Schaufele are shown in the 1900 Census taken at Sylvan, Washtenau, MI at ages 71 & 70. They'd been married for 43 years (about 1857) and had five children (4 still living in 1900). Both were born in Germany, as were their parents. John gave his occupation as a retired farmer. I'm only certain that there was one daughter named Mary (perhaps Maria?) who was born in MI in about 1865. Daughter Mary married John Schieferstein (of OH) in Mi about 1889. John & Mary Schieferstein are shown in the 1910 census from Eaton, MI with their two living children. If you have any "clues" or extended information to help with this family line, I can certainly use your help. Thank you.

Hi,

I have a Phillip Dutt in my tree, but he's back a ways. He may be an ancestor. He and his wife, Christina (?), lived in the Alsace region of France (village of Muhlhausen) and then moved to Virginia in the early 1700s. Their daughter Barbara married Johannes Schnepp (aka Snapp) in VA and had a dau, Christina who married my 6xg grandfather John Lewis Beard (aka Johan Ludwig Barth) in VA. Your Phillip may come from this line.

- Dale

I have obtained an 1846 deed for 35 acres signed by David Dutt and marked with an X by Lydia (Lidia) Dutt for land purchased from Jacob Boder of Beauert (?) Twp. Clarion County, PA. for $216.50. The land was apparently adjacent to other larger tract of land owned by David and Lydia Dutt, as previously purchased from James McKefson.

I hope you get this since your message was posted years ago. If you havent found any info on your family still, email me back, as I have found your Ellis' back to 1850, have your grtgrndma w/her parents and her bro/sis, have her father with his parents also. Also have census in 1920/1930 with grtgrnmda and her daughter Ruth M. I get bored every once in a while when I cant find info on some of our family and go thru the message boards. I was looking for info on a Thomas S. Dutt, when I came across your message. I found quite a bit, and within about an hour. So, just let me know if you want it. If so, i'll email it back to you. I know how it is to hit a brick wall, and hope to hear from you. Yvette

It's me, again. Seems my earlier msgs. got disowned somehow, but I'm still around. Lately I've been taking another look at the Toots, and I think that Peter must be one of the sons of Col. Geo. Fred. Toot of Dauphin Co. Otherwise, how would Peter end up on land 7 miles from G.F.'s grandson George, both in Carroll Co., OH? John T. Toot in Amsterdam, NY, said Col. Toot had 6 daughters and 5 sons (1994 ltr. to me), and so far I've only seen mention of John, Geo. and Adam as his sons.

Be that as it may, I'm newly impressed with this family's dedication to the American Revolution. When one checks the Penna. Archives, Second Series, Vol. XIII, pgs. 391-92, the militia company of Capt. Jonathan McClure looks like a Toot family reunion. Taking David & Catherine DUTT's children in order, we find these sons and sons-in-law in that 11 April 1781 roster of Lancaster men (Dauphin not being created for another 4 yrs., give or take):
1. Conrad; 2. David; 4. Geo. Frederick; 6. Magdalena's husband, John Kissinger; 9. Margaret's husband, Christian King (although I wonder if Christian wasn't md. to a different Margaret, possibly a Margaret Toot who was either a sister to, or widow of, one of the immigrant brothers). Then there's 3. Eve Katherine, md. to Jos. Flora, who supplied grain & forage; 5. Sophia, whose 1st husb. Jos. Ross was a physician who subscribed to the Oath of Allegiance; 7. Mary, whose husb. David A. Hummel is in the DAR Patriot Index (although I don't have his service handy); 8. Eliz., who is said to have md. a Hemperly (or could she have md. Thos. Resler?), and may have had a husband active in the cause. By the time one gets to the younger children -- those born 1770 or later -- it's easy to imagine them itching to be old enough to join the older ones. Old Man Dutt must have run a recruiting station on the side, at his Swatara Creek inn and ferry!

Elizabeth Dutt was born circa 1790 in Vorderweidenthal, Germany. According to her 1822 marriage record in Oberseebach, France, her parents were Adam DUTT and Marie Catherine KLIEN. Adam dying in 1801 and Marie Catherine in 1813. I have not found any information on this family other than that contained in Elizabeth's marriage record. Is anyone related to a DUTT or KLIEN from this area?

I am the son of John Howard ("Jack") Dutt, and grandson of Howard Dutt (I believe his name was Howard), of Tiffin Ohio. I grew up in Huron, Ohio (and now live in New York City). My father, who was born in 1925, is still alive and living in Seattle, Washington (his e-mail is Duttster2@aol.com). Unfortunately, I have never known much about the Dutt line beyond my father's father - Howard - who drowned when my Dad was a boy - probably in the 1930's.I believe they were managers/owners of a glass factory in Tiffin. I would love to learn more. Please send e-mails to me and my Dad.

Is the David Toot you are inquiring about the one was born in Germany and who died January 14, 1735 in America? Was he married to Catherine?
He had a son George Frederick Toot born August 3, 1759.
There is a man in East Liverpool who has done a lot of research on the Toot's. As far as I know he has not made the connection between David and George Frederick and our ancester Peter Toot Sr. He has his line back to Germany with the spelling Dutt in 1698.
About 1975 the census bureau indicated that there were fewer than 300 households in the county with the name Toot. A significant portion of these families were located in eastern Ohio counties of Carrol, Columbiana, Mahoning , Trumbull and Stark . One could only conclude that these people were all descended from the same line.

I have Moses Toot in my family tree as a son of Peter Toot Sr. and Katherine Bane. Moses born 1816 was married to Hannah Gilbert. I have no other information on them.
I also descend from Peter Toot, Peter had a son Levi, Levi had a son Jacob, Jacob had a son Frederick who was my grandfather.
I have tried to make the connection going the other way starting with the Dutt name and have made very little progress. I have been unable to find Peter's parents.
I have more information on George Frederick Toot and on descendands of Peter Toot Sr.
I have no Rosetta Stone in my family files.

The 1860 census for Venango, Twp. of Richland, PA shows at page 492, dwelling number 178, Lydia Dutt age 45, widow; Mary age 21, Daniel age 19, Matilda age 13, David age 11, Chas. age 8, Reubin age 6, Samuel age 3, Sarah age 1. Next door at dwelling number 179 is Henry Dutt age 24 and Lavina age 20 and ann age 1. Perhaps a 17 year old daughter of Daniel and Lydia had already left home/ married etc. which may be likely. Daniel, Lydia's husband is shown in the Mortality Index during the 1860 census, so he died during that year.
