Olive Dutton - Brisbane, Australia

Hi, I am trying to find information about Olive Dutton. She is apparently a cousin of my maternal grandmother Rita Armstrong (became Young) from Yorkshire. Olive apparently married a Dutton and moved to Papua New Guinea as her husband owned, worked on, ran? a coffee plantation. My grandmother lost touch around WWII, but we did discover that she had moved to Brisbane and was a magistrate. Or so the story goes. If anyone can shed any light on this person, it would be appreciated.

Adopted Grandmother

The information I have is sketchy at best, and I am the oldest living relative on this side of the family so there is no one to ask.

From the snippets of information my grandmother could recall, she was adopted in Montana around 1916 (born approximately 1913) to Vivian and Manila Dutton. They didn't tell her much about being adopted and there was no official paperwork as far as I know. She assumed it was an interfamily adoption of some kind. They lived in Helena, Butte, and Bozeman Montana and also San Francisco.

She had older siblings - I have a picture of one little boy so I am assuming at least one brother. I think her Father's name was Charles Whipple - she had a violin that was "played in the Ohio orchestra".

Her given name was Skidoo Whipple but changed it to Virginia Lee Whipple while she was in high school. She married John C. Flanigan in 1935.

Thank you in advance.

I would be more than willing to send what information I have by Gedcom, or any other agreed method, to any interested parties. I run Legacy 6 as a family history programme on my computer.

A start for me would be information about George Pennington Dutton, who married Emily Frances Ireland on 5 June, 1918 in Gympie, Queensland, Australia.

Thanks!

Byron Hadleigh & Duttons of Sherborne

A search for Dutton & Sherborne led me to the archive of this list, in particular a number of postings regarding 'Byron Hadleigh' and a reportedly extensive archive of Dutton/Sherborne information.

I am currently trying to prove my connection to the Sherborne line via my mother's side (Courtier-Dutton) into which married a Sarah Dutton (circa 1776) whose brother Peter (~1747-1820) bequeathed property and his name to her grandson, Lionel Courtier.

There is a long tradition in our family of being 'passed over' in a Sherborne Dutton inheritance.

I am trying to connect Peter and Sarah Dutton to the 1st Baronet Sherborne (Ralph 1636-1690) via one of his two younger sons - Ralph or Peter (I favour Peter).

My current theory is that our Peter was born around 1747, 3 years after the 2nd Baronet, John, died leaving the estate to his nephew by his sister Anne giving rise to the Naper Duttons.

If John passed over his younger brother Peter for some reason (family tradition implies he was a black sheep), in favour of a more stable line of inheritance via his sister's son, then a son of Peter, who would be of direct male line might well feel that his rightful inheritance had been passed down the female line.

IF Byron does exist AND his archive is extensive, then I should very much like to talk to him about this research and any light that he may be able to cast on to it.

Thanks for your time, everyone,

Jules
Breese married to a Dutton

I am looking for an persons who may have information about a Thomas Breese born in England Abt 1847 and came to Canada around 1870. He was married to a Mary Kermath, born in Scotland, not sure if they were married in England or if they met in Canada. My hunch is that they knew each other in England. I have Thomas on the 1871 census index form Ontario Canada. William Kermath the father of Mary is on the same film for the census. This is why I believe they may have come together to Canada. Their daughter Lillie is my great grandmother, she passed away in 1945. Her birth was not recorded in Canada for the time that she was believed to have been born. She is believed to have siblings by the names??? Morris Breese, Jessie Breese(female) married to Samuel Dutton. and a sister named Eva who possibly married a William James Smith in Ontario Canada. Any help with theses individuals would be such a big help.

Duttons from Broadkill/Lewes Area, Sussex County, Delaware

Interested in exchanging data on the following Duttons from Sussex County, Delaware.

John Dutton who married Elizabeth Stephenson.

Their son James Dutton (probably the one who married Ruth Hudson).

The 9 Children of James Dutton:
1. Samuel H. Dutton born in 1793. Not certain what happened to him but he was living in 1857.

2. Elizabeth Dutton (c1798-1861). She was the widow of Lodi Wilson in 1836 and the widow of Samuel Hudson in 1857. I do not know if she had any children.

3. John Dutton (1799-1855) married to Mary White. John and Mary had a son James Wrixan Dutton who died leaving his uncles and aunts as his nearest relatives.

4. Richard A. Dutton(1801-1863) married Elizabeth (Lank) White. Richard A. Dutton had at least one daughter Catherine married to Nathaniel Tucker. Catherine was either married to an unknown Pride, previously, or he had another daugther as well. Richard A. Dutton mentioned Annie and Richard Henry Pride (his grandchildren) in his will. While Richard Dutton owned land in the Broadkill Hundred at the time of his death, he lived in Murderkill Hundred, Kent County, Delaware.

5. Jane Dutton married James Russell

6. Amelia Dutton married Miers Darby

7. Mary Dutton (1807-1887) married William Lank. This is my line. The children of William and Mary Lank were: Levin James Lank, Mary E. Lank, and Ruth Lank. Levin James Lank had a daughter Sarah Virginia Lank (1850-1901) who married William Albert Dutton (1845-1925). William A. Dutton was the son of George Harvey Dutton (1821-1896) and Elizabeth Jester (1821-1910). So far, I have had no luck finding the parents of George H. Dutton.

8. David Dutton (born c1813) married to Sarah. David and Sarah Dutton were living in Ohio in 1857.

9. James M. Dutton (born c1814).

Duttons in Cheshire and Lancashire, England

Hello All!

I have just found a link in my family to the Duttons on my father's side. I believe that this family on the 1871 English Census in St. John's District (Hale) is related:

Name Relation Age POB
Edward Dutton Head 47 Laborer Lancashire Warrington
Mary Dutton Wife 44 Cheshire Timperly
William Dutton Son 16 Laborer Cheshire Altrincham
John Dutton Son 14 Laborer Lancashire Widness
Elizabeth Dutton Dau 11 Cheshire Timperly
Alice Dutton Dau 9 Cheshire TImperly

My link is to Elizabeth Dutton who married William Richard Webb, and I have further information on some of her descendents. Does anyone else have a link to this line? I've been trying to locate a birth certificate for Elizabeth, but it seems that Cheshire and Lancashire were full of Duttons at the time, and I can't narrow down to determine which one is my Elizabeth Dutton. Does anyone have further census data on this family? Any direction or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Amanda (Webb) deNault

Pennsylvania Duttons

It seems that records can be conflicting at times. I'm trying to make a connection to the Pennsylvania Duttons. My Great=2 Grand father has to 2 record places of birth. His name was Hyrum Smith Dutton born sept.15,1864. Place of birth Williamsburg, Penn. or Chesterton,Staffordshire,England. He had 2 sisters born in Penn. One Martha or Margery Dutton. birth date Aug.22,1868 Place St.Nicholas, Schuylkill.Penn. Another sister died at the age of 3, her name was Mary Ellen Dutton, Birth date July.7,1871. My Dutton all come from Cheshire,England. lived in Penn. Utah and Idaho Falls Idaho. I have an uncle in Idaho that told me some of my Dutton family came to this country on the Mayflower. I sure would like to know more about this line of Duttons and if I mite be part of this Penn. line. Any information on this would be helpful. Thanks Diana

Mt. Hope, Delaware Co., PA Cemetery Inscriptions

I found online at rootsweb a document that has a partial listing of interments at Mt. Hope Cemetery and although a few Duttons were in my file and familiar to me, there were a few that were probably related that I couldn't add to the file because I didn't know which were their parents.

OK, so let's start with the "father" ... Charles Dutton (1821-1908) who m. Jane W. Johnson (1827-1914) in 1855. Their known children were: Howard J., Elizabeth W., Charles L., William Worrall, and Jesse Alfred.

Now, from the inscriptions, does anyone know who the following were in relation to the above?

Name Birth Death
DUTTON, C. Harold 1891 1977
DUTTON, Ethel L 1853 1924
DUTTON, Frank 1849 1924
DUTTON, Martha C 1853 1924
DUTTON, Irwin P 1893 1977
DUTTON, Walter T 5-8-1897 8-22-1920

Now there was also listed a William Henry Dutton b. 1831 which may have been a brother to the above Charles Dutton, both of which then being children of Thomas Dutton (b 1785) and Susan Robinson (b 1787).

If so, then the following would also belong to the family:

DUTTON, William Henry 1831 1908
DUTTON Mary E. Butler 1842 1928
DUTTON, Mary Emma 1881 1966

DUTTON, William Henry Jr. Dec. 9, 1873 Dec. 8, 1932
DUTTON, Priscilla Habbersett Nov. 21, 1878 May 2, 1965 w/o William Henry Jr.

If you'd like to correspond about this, please email me directly.

Thanks!

Erin Peters
genealogylover@hotmail.com

Her Mothers name is Adline Simpson which I haven't seen sence 1977 also. We have a brother name Todd Dutton that I heared lives in Idaho Falls some where with his mother. The last I heared from an Uncle is that Candy was living in Washington State. Candy would be about 41 now. We had differnt mothers and grew up in diffrent states, so we never spent much time together. I would like to change that and share our lives now. I would be thankful for any help finding her.

Lavina Brintnall Dutton

Lavina Brintnall (b. 25 Oct. 1783) married Jonas Dutton (b. 1 Aug. 1782). Lavina Brintnall was probably from New Hampshire. Old family papers document the Brintnall brothers came from England and fought in the revolutionary war. They found a young Indian girl and sent her home where she received an education. Many years later, one of the sons of the Brintnall brothers married the Indian girl. Lavina Brintnall is believed to be the daughter of the Indian girl found during the revolutionary war. Looking for information regarding Lavina Brintnall Dutton?
