If the Matthew Duty you are looking at is in fact the convicted goose thief that did in fact come over on a convict ship, that means when he landed in American he was still a prisoner sent here to work off his sentence.

He did not have any money, he was in deep goose poop. It would have been pretty much impossible for him to amass the wealth, property and all of those kids mentioned in the will of Matthew Duty #2.

The goose thief's goose is cooked I would think.
