Surnames: Dux, Hausman, Best, Allovan, Puvogel, Becker
Ah, I have him down as George Phillip Francis Dux, born 1879 in NYC, son of Jacob and Emma [Allovon] Dux. But then Jacob's brother August also had a son named Phillip George Dux (b 1886, NYC) who married Marie [Puvogel?] ... AND both Jacob and August had a younger brother b abt 1859 in NYC named Phillip G. Dux (he married Mary; they had no children so far as I know).

So Phillip seems to have been some sort of ancestral name.

BTW, Jacob and August were both born in Germany just before their emigration to America ca 1855, a third brother -- Joseph -- was born 1856 in Philadelphia soon after the family arrived in this country, and the fourth son, Phillip, was born in New York City around 1859. Many of that clan were printers; August was a butcher. Joseph moved to Chicago where he made a name for himself as an "architectural sculptor" and married Mathilde Best.

Their parents, which is about as far back as I've been able to take it, were Charles ("Carl" on his naturalization papers) Dux and Catherine Hausman. Charles was born around 1822 in Cassel, Germany, and Catherine was born in June 1820. Charles was the older brother of my gg-grandmother Anna Dux Becker.
