According to Riobard O'Dwyer, Beara peninsula genealogist, Nora (of Boffickil) & Quinlan O'Neill were married (probably in the Eyeries parish church) on July 21, 1856, and had a son John O'Neill in Boffickil in 1857. One of the marriage witnesses was a Timothy Dwyer.

Apparently in those days it was the custom for the couple's fathers to be the marriage witnesses. Robert O'Dwyer of Boffickil (c. 1797-c. 1846) was dead, but he had a grown son Timothy (1832-1905) who didn't emigrate to the USA until 1857. Robert's brother Timothy also lived in Boffickil. So Nora was most probably a daughter of either Robert or his brother Timothy.

No further trace can be found, so the young family probably emigrated soon thereafter.

This Robert O'Dwyer was my ggrandfather.

Anyone out there find this data familiar???

Thanks in advance

Tom
