I agree that John Kelley DYE and John Dye of Ally Hill fame are different. For what it is worth:
Martin Avery DYE (1740-Richmond COUNTY, VA to 1822-Franklin Co, GA; specifically Dunnsville, VA and (Fort) Martin, GA) md Mary KELLEY in 1760 in Richmond Co, VA. She died in Warren Co, NC (I have not confirmed date). They had 12 children including John Kelley DYE (SR.). He was b 1760, Richmond Co, VA -Dunnsville. He married (unknown) and had John Kelley DYE, Jr. who was born in 1788 in Bear Fork, Roane Co, VA (WV). Line ends.
John DYE, b 1788 in Fairfield District, SC to John DYE, Sr and unknown. John Dye Sr. and unknown married in 1778 in Rutherford Co, NC. One report has him dying in Greene County, INDIANA in 1840 ( I am looking for that now and will follow up). John DYE, Sr and unknown had three sons and two daughters. I know of only two sons that apparently lived beyond youth, William and John Jr. John Jr married Ally HILL and had eight children. John and Ally appear in the following census reports: 1850 and 1860 in McMinn County, TN ( in Athens, pronounced Aaaathuns) and 1870 in Bledsoe Co, TN (either in Morgan City or Morgan Springs). Ally appears as "Ala" in the 1870 Census. Any corrections appreciated. Fred Dye
