Let's clarify who John Kelly Dye is. He's the son of Martin Dye II (or Junior) and Mary Kelly. He's listed in records as early as 1790 in Warren county, NC, giving him a probable birthdate of about 1760. I, too, have Martin Dye's 1807 will, and it does NOT list birth dates for the children.
There was a younger Martin Dye (III), listed in his father's will as child number three. Children seemed to be listed in order, so Martin III was born most likely around 1762-1765. However, one deed entry in Warren county, NC, is signed by both Martin and Martin, Jr. (Martin II and Martin III in other words), and using that as a basis, Martin III may have been born as early as 1758.
There was a Martin Dye in Tennessee per the 1830 census -- Monroe county, I believe, but that Martin was born between 1790 and 1800, making him too young to be Martin III.
I believe the John Dye who married Allie Hill is listed as just plain John, not as John Kelly Dye. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
