It was interesting to note that someone's ancestor married in
Barbour Co, AL. The Dykes left Cochran, GA area and went
to Barbour Co, AL, crossing the Chattachoochee River at the
bridge at Eufaula. They went on over to west Barbour Co to
the Louisville, AL area and established the old Dykes church
now known as "Lighterknot" Church and cem. The Bryan
family went with them. Some of the Dykes drifted on down into Dale Co, Al and a few down to Jackson Co, FL,where their kin had earlier, ca 1844, gone from Cochran. There is
a big Dykes presence in SE AL and down into FL at this time.
They were all descended from George Dykes of Cochran.
Some went on into TX and if you can find the Dykes data online at "Widder Dykes," you will find more on them, including the one from GA, who was wounded at the Battle
of New Orleans and died from that wound.
