names, multiple spelling and different dates. Her name was Hattie Dexter. (born 1891) Father: William Dexter, son of Pieter martens Dexter and Lijsbet Hayes Hooyenga, (also called Lizzie). Mother: Anna van Dijk, daughter of Willem Lieuwes van Dijk and Wapke Feyes Coree. All from the Netherlands- Holland, Freisland. Yesterday a fine gentleman from Columbus, Mississippi, was visiting here and told me that he knew an Uithoven girl in Columbus, "really sharp, really smart." So, I felt encouraged to try again at a family research blog, possibly under the rubric of "Jan Uithoven." (I don't have much luck with technology, but...)
Meanwhile, since we last chatted, my brother R. L. (who also lives out West, near me) paid a professional to research our Uithoven and Vos lines. Hundreds of family names now available....Vos, Millenaar, van Dyk, etc.

Seth (from the 1910 census) Dysktra was Sieds Jans Dijkstra, born 3 August 1891 in the gemeente (county) of Dantumadeel, Friesland, the Netherlands, son of Jan Tjallings Dijkstra and Ybeltje Ybeles Struiksma.

The family, consisting of Jan and Ybeltje and their 3 sons, Tjalling (Charles), born 31 October 1885, Jacob, born 27 January 1890, and Sieds came to America in 1892 arriving in New York on 10 May 1892 on the ship "Maasdam". They were enroute to Grand Rapids.

A daughter Helen was born in Michigan.

Helen was the americanized version for Hiltje.

Answering my own notice to report that I found in the Ottawa County Death Records 1867-1901 that on 11 DEC 1881, SCHOLS, CORNELIS, died at the age of 32-9-0 of Thyphoid. He was born in the Netherlands and he was a carpenter. Name father: C. H. SCHOLS, Name mother: GESINA.

That GESINA was the first wife of Cornelis Henderik Schols, the father of the Schols listed. He married after the death of Gesina, Tietje Sytses Dijkstra, who was still living in Ottawa County, Michigan in 1910, age 84. She was born 11 January 1826 Leeuwarden, The Netherlands
They married 29 February 1860 Watergraafsmeer, The Netherlands.

On 14 May 1869 they emigrated to the US with three of the four children out of the marriage with Gesina Maria

The full name of GESINA was Gesina Maria Löwensteyn. Birth: 4 January 1822 -- Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Death: 30 September 1859 -- Gouda, The Netherlands.

Doekle Dykstra (or Dijkstra) married to

I am searching for information on Doekle Dykstra.
He was born on 18-08-1890 in Sexbierum (Barradeel), Holland. He emigrated to USA on a ship called Potsdam in april 1911 to Ellis Island New York. His destination was Passaic, New Jersey. A year earlier his younger brother Jurjen has arrived in USA, heading for Paterson, New Jersey, Jurjen died in WW1 in France in october 1918.
Doekle Dykstra was my grandfathers brother (Anne).
He must have died before 01-05-1938, because his wife is alone on a dead advert of his father. His wifes last name is Pears and was living in Helena Montana at the time. Can someone help me out ??

He has a ggrandfather that came from Illinois and they had four boys, he died young and she remarried but the boys went to michigan and some stayed in Montana then later moved to Washington state. Garret George Dykstra was born 31-7-1860 in Lancaster, rie county, NY. His grandparents, Gerrit Jans Dijkstra and Saakje Schregardus, immigrated from Nes, Westdongeradeel, the Netherlands, in May 1849. I have a fair amount of information on GJ Dijkstra and his ancestry.

My family immigrated to Michigan Mt.Pleasant in 1960 from France. My father's family is from Freisland. My father's family were dairy farmer's. My father bought a farm between Rosebush Michigan and Mt pleasant. We lived there until his death in 1964. Is anybody related to me ?

Try this for a match: John G. Dykstra b. 8 Oct 1814 (I believe Friesland) Holland, was a Farmer and Justice of the Peace in Lancaster, Erie Co., New York in 1870 (as per US Census). His wife Catherine b. abt 1818 in Holland. Children were I believe: Addia b. Holland abt 1836, Sarah b. Holland abt 1837, Francis, b. Holland abt 1842, Emer J. b. Holland abt 1843, Flora. b., NYS abt 1851, Jane b. NYS abt 1854 and Peter, b., abt 1855 in New York State.

I do not believe I can help you. This is my husband's family I am researching. His Grandfather, Peter Dykstra, was born in the Netherlands. (Freisland) When he came to America, he was married and had three children. Four more children were born here. They made their home in the Grand Rapids/Holland Michigan area their whole life. There are many extended family members still in the same area. No one that I know of, ever lived in Montana or Illinois. I am sorry I did not have better news. Good luck!

In 1893 emigrate Pieter van der Heij, together with his wife and the children Pieter (Peter), Tjitske, Trijntje, Jan and Sybren (Seibe) from Sneek in Holland to the USA.. In the US Ferderal Census of 1910 I found Peter (* 9-3-1856) and his son Peter (*21-5-1880).
In the Social Security Death Index I found the next members of the Vander Hey family: Jacob (1906-1984 Paterson), Mary (1903-1978 Paterson), John (191-1995 Andover), Peter (1903-1991), Elizabeth (1895-1978 Wyckoff), Bertha (1904-1985 Paterson), Edward (1897-1986 Clifton), Cornelius (1927-1902 Paterson), Grace (1901-1983 Monmouth Junction), Nellie (1894-1980 Paterson), Peter (1920-2002 Paterson), Seibe (1931-1980 Haledon).
Who can help me to find the parents of these people and who knows descendants of them?

She retired from the Imperial Oil Limited after many years. She moved to Richmond when she was married. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Richmond Lawn Bowling Club, Minoru Senior's Society and the Sons of Scotland. Flora leaves to mourn her loving husband Jilt and sister Joan of Vancouver. I am looking for information on David (Douwe) Dykstra b. abot 1883 in Friesland, NL who immigrated abt 1906. He and his wife Rena had 11 children: Arthur b. 1907, Charles b. 1909, Anna b. 1911, David b. 1912, Clarence b. 1914, Gertrude b. 1916, Minnie b. 1918, Rena b. 1920, Alice b. 1921, Harold b. 1923, Samuel, b. 1927. The last 5 children were born in Wisconsin (presumably Racine). The others were born in PA, MI and IA.

Douwe Dykstra and Renske Meines traveled on the ship Statendam which arrived in NY (Ellis Island) on May 29, 1906. They are not listed as married in the ship manifest so it is presumed they married in the U.S.

Any help would be appreciated!

Although this is not my line I may be able to help a little. There is a cemetary west of Springfield about 5 miles that contains some of these names. I do not have records for this cemetary but when I go to Springfield I may have time to look at some of them. Would appear to be two seperate families of Dykstras in Springfield area as i have not found a link between the two in last 110 year history. if I do link the two families I will get back to you.

I am descended from Jan Uithoven from Almkerk / Nord Brabant in the Netherlands -- Your Uithoven is from Holland, originally. Searching some US census records from the 1890's, 1870's etc. may give you some clues -- also Connie Uithoven's naturalization papers will give much info.

Hi! I'm looking for information on a Gerrit (middle initial L?) Dykstra. He was probably born sometime in the late 1800's - early 1900's, possibly in Iowa. I believe he lived his whole life in Pella, Marion co., Iowa, but I'm not sure. He married Jennie Van Engelenhoven who was born in 1900, also in Pella, I think. Thanks for the info. I found the surnames Dykstra and Riley but not any first names that match yet. Our Dykstra's and Riley's came from Pueblo, Co and before that from Lancaster, NY and Kansas City, KS. A few of them were born in Salt Lake City, UT. They all came from George Garrett Dykstra. His children were Garrett George Dykstra, Maggie kessinger, Sarah Sullivan, Jennie , Ida, Emma, Isaac Guffey, Rosina May Dykstra. Some of them were also born in ohio.

He was born on 18-08-1890 in Sexbierum (Barradeel), Holland. He emigrated to USA on a ship called Potsdam in april 1911 to Ellis Island New York. His destination was Passaic, New Jersey. A year earlier his younger brother Jurjen has arrived in USA, heading for Paterson, New Jersey, Jurjen died in WW1 in France in october 1918.
Doekle Dykstra was my grandfathers brother (Anne).
Doekle must have 2 sons, who have come to Sexbierum, somewhere in the 1970's or 1980's.

Joan, you have asked the $10,000 question. I have a single census record of John and Alice Dykstra in Paterson, NJ in 1910, and the year of their births coincides with the two individuals you have identified in the Frisian records database.

Also, the place of Holwerd/Westdongeradeel is correct, the naming traditions seem to make sense, and the occupation of butcher has been passed down in the Dykstra lineage you cited. I think you are almost certainly correct, but I'd like to prove it. Unfortunately I don't know exact birthdates, place of marriage, or where and when they died, but I'm still hopeful of finding out sooner or later.

I'm looking for information on my family tree, going backwards from my great-grandfather Gerald Dykstra from Kent County, Michigan. He was born on 16 Nov 1907. I think (but not completely sure) that his parents were the ones in my family who "came across on the boat" from Holland. I could be wrong on that. It may have been a generation before.

Anyway, I appreciate any help that anyone can give. As an aside, I've read that all Dykstras are related to each other. Who was the first Dykstra, and when was it all started? If anyone has a genealogy that goes ALL the way back (or includes my branch), I'd like to see it. Thanks.

My Grand father, Peter Dykstra, was born in the US on 2/16/1885. Where, I dont't know but I'm looking for info on his father who I always thot was also named Peter(peiter) but may have been named Antje. My Dad, Raymond was one of 4 boys born in or around South Holland Ill. or Muncie, Ind. His dad married a Trienje (Trina) VanderBy and they moved to Rapelje, Mont. with thier 4 little boys. In 1918 Peter died of the influenza when he got out of his sick bed to do chores for other sick Dutchmen in the settlement. My Dad was only 8 yrs. old so I never new my grandfather nor any info on his family, other children etc. Can you help me?

On 06/09/1909, in Rochester, Racine Co., WI, Nellie married Edward C. Pippel (born 05/06/1883, and died 02/14/1951, Cherry Valley, Winnebago Co., IL).

Their children: Winifred, Cornelius, Jacob, Jean, Dan, Henry and John (born Rockford, Winabago Co., IL).

Sounds like your maternal grandmother might be a cousin to Winifred Pippel. Do you know the names of your great-grandparents (Donald C. Pippel's parents?

Were they the same as Winifred's parents: Edward C. Pippel (05/06/1883-02/14/1951) and Nellie Dykstra (12/13/1885-05/21/1976; parents Cornelius Dykstra & Johanna)? Or maybe Donald C.'s father was a brother to Edward C.?

Or one of Winifred's siblings: Cornelius, Jacob, Jean, Dan, Henry, & John?
