Hi all, I am working on the Risdahl family history from Karmoy. The Risdahl farm is very close to the Dyrland farm and there has been intermarriage between them. An Ellen Risdahl married an Ole Govertsen Dyrland in Norway, Benton, Iowa, in 1873. Also Anne Louise Nilsdatter Risdal married Georg Dyrland in Vinton, Iowa in 1889. Any connections?

Sincerely, Tom Nilson
Hey. I'm your uncle Blaine's daughter. In other words I'm your cousin. I was wondering if you had information on the Webb family which is Grandma Iola's family. I've looked up Alma and George Webb. Since I'm the computer geek around the house I've been searching for some information on our history. I know your my cousin because if Dorius is your Grandpa and he's my grandpa too, it's obvious were cousins. Well anyway could you please email me if you have any info on the Webbs that way I could post up a bit of information on the Webb family. That is unless you want to do it. So email me at mad_female_cow91@hotmail.com. Thanks a lot. Bianca.

Jim,
These (Jacob, Enok, and (Peder) Nicholi Dyrland), appear to be the children of Eilert Jakobsen Dyrland (from Skitnadal) (1843-1893) and Jette Gurine Jonsdatter Dyrland (b. 1848, em? ca. 1907) from the Dyrland farm on Karmøy, Rogaland. Email me--I have quite a bit of information on their ancestors (the families of both my grandfathers came from Karmøy and are distantly related). (I think it was Robert Gass who mentioned the two different Dyrlands; one of my second cousins married a Dyrland whose roots were in the other farm in Telemark.)

Gene Nygaard, Crosby, ND, USA

My grandfather Dorius Dyrland was related to Eilart (his son I believe?) and they settled in in and around Swift Current, Saskatchewan at the turn of the 20th century. My grandfather and his wife Iola had four male children who, as adults, spread out from Saskatchewan to Alberta and Manitoba with their familes. Last I knew, my father was in Winnipeg, my uncles were in Saskatoon and around Edmonton, Alberta.

I'm out of touch with my family and have been for quite a few years, but that is what I know. Just offering it up to complete the picture. Would be interested in hearing from Dyrlands in the USA and/or Norway as well.

My gg-grandmother was Louise Dyrland. She married Lars Langedahl somewhere in Iowa I believe. I think the family was from Karmoy according to my research. Her parents moved with her to North Dakota (about 40 miles east of the capital Bismarck) where they are buried in our family cemetery. Their names are John and Kjestine (Chestine or Christine). I believe John's middle initial is I. I don't know Kjestine's maiden name. They died in the 1810's or 20's I believe. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Berkley

Robert Gass: My grandfather was Samuel Dyrland & he married Ellen (Kuamme or Quamme) in Minnesota about 1897. They immigrated to the U.S. from Karmoy, Norway. My mother Clara Dyrland was the eldest of 7 children, the others being, John, Bertle, Elias, Ruth, Joseph & Charles. My mother was born in Shelley Mn. in 1898 & I know that Elias was born in Thief River Falls, Mn. in 1904. It was from Thief River Falls that the entire family moved to Alberta, Canada in 1918. My mother married Thomas "Amos" Norem that same year & the Norem family had immigrated from Stavanger, Norway to Iowa & then to Fargo N.D. & in 1914 to Alberta, Canada. We used to visit the U.S. every year when I was growin up, visiting Mom's cousins in Montana & Mn. My grandmother Ellen had a twin sister Karen Tronness whom we used to visit in St. Paul-Minneapolis. As far as I know Samuel was the only one of his family to come to Canada. Do you remember hearing anything about this Dyrland Family? I have not been able to contact any relatives at all. Wish I had of been more observing as a child.

My great grandfather was John Dyrland who was marries to Alma Lode. They had 4 sons and 1 daughter Marie who was my grandmother. My father is Charles Gass the son of Marie Dyrland and Charles Herman Gass, he was born in Hinckley, Mn in 1927 where both the Dyrland and Gass families had settles in the 1910's. John or Johan Dyrland and Alma Lode met in Norway before comming to the United States in 1905. THey lived in Addison, North Dakota before moving to Minnesota. In the 1950's John and Alma Dyrland moved to Turlock, California. I guess this would make us 3rd cousins. I have alot of information on the Dyrland family which goes back about 200 years. I also have pictures of Alma and Anna as girls in Norway as well as Sivert Dyrland when he was a member of the Norwegion Parliment in the early 1900's.

Darren, I am your dad, Richard Dyrland's cousin. I am sure you know who I am. I live in Red Deer, Alberta. I have been working on the Dryland family also for the last couple of years. I do know that my Samuel & Ellen (Kuamme or Quamme) came from the island of Karmoy. When my parents, Amos & Clara (Dyrland) Norem went to Norway they went to this Island. Mom, Clara Dyrland was born in Shelley, Minnesota & I think you grandfather Elias, was also. Maybe between the two of us we can find other family. Mom had several cousins in Montana & Minn. that we visited when I was growing up, but don't remember their names. Keep in touch. My e-mail is embarker@telusplanet.net.
Jim,
My great grandfather had a brother named Sivert Magnum who settled in Montana and became owner of a huge wheat farm. Go to MyFamily.com and we have a Dyrland family site that you can join which has lot's of information on our family. There are two branches of Dyrland, one from the island of Karmoy which is our family and another Dyrland family from the Telemark region of Norway. These to Dyrland families are the only in the world and all of those on MyFamily.com out from Karmoy. I think we are the branch you are related too.
