Re: Warring Eadie

I haved copied and pasted alot of info from the site leads and more.. any info you can add or use thanks david or if you have any contact with any from the list pass my email on to them have them contact me. I live in the upstate of s.c. I am from charleston s.c.

Thank you for any information you may be able to give me. Thelma's husband Alonzo died in 1953, I never met either of my grandparents.

My father was Allen Detroit Eadie Born Nov. 23 1927 Died March 23 1975 ww2 army air corp lived in Chars. SC Ladson area married once before. to whom dont know heard had 3 sons never meet their mother left town??? my mother Sarah Edna Lyles Eadie my grandfather Alonzo W. Eadie grandmother Thelma Litchfield Eadie, related to the Eadie,Lyles,Rabon , Smoak , Most pf all from the Summerville Charleston,Ladson Camden area of SC

add to first post relation to the Judy's also Mary Ann Judy James M. Judy was a maternal grand father., Ms Judy was Born Feb 27,1904 in Lee county to Joe Rabon Annie Baker Rabon ,Walkers ...My father Allen Eadie has two brothers Octavies C. Eadie Bowens Island , Heyward H. Eadie (Alabama and Detroit), three sisters Ms. Harvey Walker,Asbury Walker SC, and Ms Paul W Farly of Jamestown NY

All I have on Sarah Dance is a Birth date of Oct 20
Married to Joseph Litchfield 23 August 1849 in All Souls, St. Marylebone. Child by the name of Robert Litchfield born 9 August 1860 is father to my grandmother Thelma Litchfield Eadie.

Hi, Judy. I contacted my cousin. He is VERY accurate. Here's your answer:

"I have the 1900 census for Waring Eadie's family. The spelling of the name is Alonza. However, it indicates that he is Waring's son, born in Jan. 1894. I have another source that lists his name as Alonzo W. born in Jan. 1894, the son of Waring Mution Eadie and Alice W. Norton Eadie. I have Alonzo's wife as Thelma Litchfield.

I'm like 99% sure that Judy is Waring's great-granddaughter."

That makes you "family"!

Please reply,
Deb Hurdle

Re: ALONZA EADIE in SC
EADIEGIRL (View posts) Posted: 19 Jun 2002 9:06PM

Classification: Query
Surnames: Eadie, Grooms
Hi, Judy. Thanks for responding. Hmmm...Sounds like we've got a family mystery on our hands.

First of all: Is it Alonzo or Alonza? Typically, the "a" ending is for a female and the "o" for a man. Can you verify which spelling? Also, I've seen the middle name spelled as: Westley and (your spelling) Wessley. Which is it??

Next: The records I have on Hayward or Heyward Eadie, from family members in SC, indicate he was the son of Watson Eadie, Warring's brother. Incidentally, Warring is how it seems to be spelled, rather than Waring (I thought it strange, too). The middle name, Mution, is interchanged with Morton with different people. I don't have any records to confirm which name is which, yet.

Back to Watson: Watson was born 1865; I have no death date on him. He married Susie Grooms, no birth/death dates. The children I have listed are: David, Arthur, Alma, and Hayward/Heyward.

This Hayward could have been born about 1900 I belive, when his father, Watson, was 36 years old. If your dad was born in 1901, he might be the same Hayward.

If not, we have another descendency, probably through one of Watson's siblings, which were: Agustus (b. 1848), Nina (b. 1854), Adolphus (b. 1856) my grandfather, Julia (b. 1858), Porthena (b. 1860), Minerva (b. 1862), Warring (b. 1862), Amanda (b. 1865), Watson (b. 1865), and Pauline (b. 1871).

I may have some date discrepancies with Minerva and Warring and Amanda and Watson, unless there were two sets of twins.

So now we have to look in the earlier censuses to see if we missed Alonzo.

That's all I can speculate about at this time. I will be in contact with an Eadie cousin in Atlanta who has most of the hard data and will ask him if he can pick up the trail of Alonzo.

Back to your father, Heyward Hassell Eadie. If he ws born in 1901, he may well be the one that Mell Eadie personally visited with in Charleston in 1977. At that time, Heyward was intending on moving to Ridgeville from Charleston to be near his son, Donald Eadie. Heyward was 76 years old at that time. When Mell Eadie talked with Heyward, Heyward told him that his father and Adolphus's father were brothers. Mell's notes did not indicate whether Heyward's father was Watson or Alonzo. Darn!

Heyward's son, Donald, who is still listed in the Ridgeville, SC white pages, would be elderly himself now. But since he is still alive, maybe we can get some answers from him. If you are a brave person, here's Donald's phone number: Eadie DONALD
RIDGEVILLE SC (843) 688-5355 or this one: Eadie D
1513 HIGHWAY 61 RIDGEVILLE SC
843) 821-8155. Phone numbers are different; maybe he moved or changed his number over the years.

If you are not brave enough to call him, let me know and I WILL call -- I'm not particularly shy:-)

There is an Eadie family reunion on 6th July in SC (Wadmalaw Island). At least 50 Eadie relations will be there. Would you like an invitation? If so, let me know and I will have my cousin Kitty (Kathleen, whose mom is an Eadie) email you an invitation. Since it's coming up soon, please let me know asap.

Hope we can help you. I feel you are a "cousin." You know, there are also a LOT of Eadies that went to Georgia and Tennessee and Texas. So many of them have the same names and overlapping info that we believe that somehow we are all connected. One day, we'll solve this with all of us working together!

Blessings,
Deb Hurdle

I am new to the search! At present, I am not far enough along to be of much help to those of you who have been searching for a few years. My father was Heyward H. Eadie and his father was Alonzo Wessley Eadie. I thought Alonzo was the son of Waring Mution Eadie, however, I cannot find a connection. My father died in the 80's. He was not close to his family and did not talk much about them, therefore I am having a hard time tracking them down. I did not find him listed in the 1920 census. Any leads you have would be greatly appreciated. Welcome to the research world!

I have a Robert Eadie in my family tree, but he was a brother of RD Eadie's grandfather. I don't know what date range you're working in but my Riley Daniel Eadie (RD Eadie)has been found: he was born in Charleston or close to, in 1885. He spent until age 18 in the Charleston Orphan Home with his sisters, Selina (my grandmother), Lucy, and Florence.

My Robert B. Eadie was b. 27 Jul 1827, d. 6 May 1902; m. Eliza M. C. Jackson. They are both buried in Mudlake Plantation Cemetery in Berkeley Co., SC. (Jonathan J. Eady, Robert's grandfather, owned the plantation).

I don't know any of the children of Robert.

Tell me more about your Robert and I'll keep an eye out. I'll ask my cousin, who has done more research than I, if he has an inkling of the names of any of Robert's brothers. We have been working strictly through Robert's brother, Adolphus, which leads us to our RD Eadie, etc., but would like to fill out the family tree. We may yet be related to you!

Have you tried Ancestry.com? Great place to start.

Keep searching! Let me know what you find.

Regards,
Deb Hurdle
jwhdj@earthlink.net

Re: Jonathan Eady, m. I saw emails posted betwen you and Cheryl Davis.

My Jonathan James Eady was b. 1777 -- don't know where. Married to Elizabeth ?. I've read a lot about JJEady in GA, but he is not the same Jonathan.

However, I am at a loss to find the parents of my Jonathan. Do you know how and if the Eadys in GA are connected with the ones in SC?

My Jonathan was reportedly the owner of Mudlake Plantation, we think it was near Eadytown or Russellville. At any rate, it is now under the waters of Lake Moultrie. The Eady/Eadie cemetery was moved (just the headstones), so I have a number of names of family.

But the elusiveness of JJEady is really bugging me! I just received his will and estate accounting in the mail today from SC Archives, but it tells me virtually nothing except his name is spelled several different ways in the will itself: Eady, Eddy, Eddie.

I have looked for him with the surname of those variations and come up with zilch.

Could you help me in any way? I would be forever grateful. I am here in California and have no where to research except by contacting Eadys like yourself who may hold an obscure clue for me.

Thanks for any info or advice.
Deb Hurdle
jwhdj@earthlink.net
Three - J. If you have read all the emails between me and Reggie Eady, you know that we are merely surmising that JJEady, b. SC, d. GA, is possibly a son of JJEady of Mudlake Plantation. A great-grandson of JJEady of Mudlake was my g-uncle Riley, who moved to GA in the early 1900s, possibly because he knew of family members there.

That's the only way I have of connecting JJEady b. 1799 and JJEady of Mudlake Plantation at this time. I have no other information on Eadys in GA, except through a cousin who lives there. She told me that the name Eady was changed to Eadie because the Black slaves of JJEady of Mudlake had adopted the name Eady. In Charleston Co. court records, there is a distinction between Black and Caucausian Eadys. The Caucasian Eadys changed their name to Eadie to stop the confusion.

Now, a delicate question for you: Are you a Black Eady? I asked Reggie this same question and didn't get a clear answer. Perhaps he, and maybe you, are mixed blood Eadys??

I'd be glad to assist you in your research, but I don't think I'm on the same ancestry trail that you are, at least at the moment. That may change as I dig deeper into my GA roots.

Regards,

Deb

MUDLAKE CEMETARY IN S.C.
MUDLAKE CEMETARY IN S.C.
Nancy (View posts) Posted: 9 Jun 2000 6:24PM

Classification: Query
Surnames: Eadie, Eady
Names of those buried there are J J Eadie,
Elizabeth Eadie, Jonathan Eady, Robert B.

Ralph joined his brother James in Boston in 1909 and then Maggie and their infant son John joined them in 1910. Ralph Morrison joined the Canadian Army in 1915,leaving Maggie still in Boston, and did not die in the war. Margaret's family name was Stewart and she was my grandmother's sister. The Morrisons seem to disappear. Does anyone know of this family?
EADIE, THOMAS

Rank and organization: Chief Gunner's Mate, U.S. Navy. Place and date: Off Provincetown, Mass., 18 December 1927. Entered service at: Rhode Island. Born: 7 April 1887, Scotland. Other Navy award: Navy Cross. Citation: For display of extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession above and beyond the call of duty on 18 December 1927, during the diving operations in connection with the sinking of the U.S.S. S-4 with all on board, as a result of a collision off Prividencetown, Mass. On this occasion when Michels, Chief Torpedoman, U.S. Navy, while attempting to connect an airline to the submarine at a depth of 102 feet became seriously fouled, Eadie, under the most adverse diving conditions, deliberately, knowingly, and willingly took his own life in his hands by promptly descending to the rescue in response to the desperate need of his companion diver. After 2 hours of extremely dangerous and heartbreaking work, by his cool, calculating, and skillful labors, he succeeded in his mission and brought Michels safely to the surface.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Newport, Rhode Island
Cemetery: Island Cemetery Annex

Born: 1887 Scotland

Died: 1974

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_af/eadie...

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Eadie

Note: This is not my ancestry.
Have just read your e mail thread on the Eadie Family. I have just started working on my sister in Laws family tree and have discovered a connection to your branch. Her mother was Charlotte Eadie b1914 daughter of John Eadie and Agnes Ritchie. John in turn the son of James Eadie and Annie Gray.
I am sure this is the same family you are inerested in. I would be willling to work locally in Glasgow to piece a bit more together in reurn foir any information you may have. I was only last week admiring a photograph of the eadie family taken 1920'ish the family of John and Agnes Ritchie
Robert Stewart
PS it may take a coule of weeks to get back to you I am off to Canada (vancouver on thursday)
