Jessie was Jemima's daughter. Although I'm not 100% convinced that the John Spiers who was killed in Fiji in 1871 was Jemima's husband the circumstantial evidence is strong. There is a Scottish newspaper report of the killing and the story that John Spiers' wife escaped an attack on their home with 3 children.
There is a shipping record of Mrs Spiers and 3 children travelling from Fiji to Sydney in 1873 and the following enrolments in Sydney in 1876:
SPIERS	Catherine Maud	9 yrs	04/12/1876 NRS 12266 [1]; COD 506, Page 141 Protestant Orphan School (Female)
SPIERS	Jessie	5 yrs 04/12/1876 NRS 12266 [1]; COD 506, Page 141 Protestant Orphan School (Female)
SPIERS	Richard	11 yrs 04/12/1876 NRS - [4/10786]; Reel 3702, Page 125	Protestant Orphan School (Male)
Catherine, or Kathleen, married Albert Thompson in 1886 and died in 1899.
Richard married Molly Clarke in 1893 and died in 1954.
Jessie married Thomas Wright in 1895 and died in 1961.

Jemima (AKA Mina and Amenia) tried to divorce her second husband in 1900. In the evidence presented there is referrence to a son, Willie, aged about 24.
So the search goes on!
She certainly appears as Daisy in various newspaper notices. Jessie didn't die until 1970, so its a possibility. So even if his mother tried to divorce her father, they seem to have been close.

I'd overlooked Robert's children. Certainly a possibility. I have a note that Robert's daughter Jessie was called Daisy when she was young, presumably because her mother was Jessie

Sounds like the son of Jemima. Robert Wharfe Smart had a dau Jessie by his previous wife. She would have only been about 5 when he married Jemima.I wonder if thats the Jessie referred to in the death notice.

It may be more complicated! There was a death in 1954, in NSW, of a Richard John Spiers, aged 89. His name and age match that of Jemima's son. The death notice refers to a sister Jessie.

Thank you for clarifying that. They had complicated lives, didn't they. I can't understand why they bothered to marry, especially when they had already three children and they must have separated and gone their own way very shortly after Jemima was born.

William appears to have been born about 1842. He died in Granville, NSW in 1926. His death index gives father Richard, mother Mary Ann. My guess is that he was brought up by Mary Ann, but as he was was born before Richard and Eleanor were married, and the fact that he was shown as her son on her death registration, suggests they may not have registered the birth.
Eleanor may not have told John Bott about the first two.
Her children with John Bott were born c1847, 1840 and 1855.
Jemina (aka Mina)married John Spiers 30 Jul 1864 and had a son, Richard. After John died in 1871 she married Robert Warfe Smart in Parramatta in July 1897 She tried to divorce him in 1900 and died in July 1926.

Carolyn Emblem from Canada has tracked down what became of Eleanor Emblem, the wife of Richard Edward Eagar. She died as Ellen Bott, the 'wife' of John Bott, in Kilmore, Victoria, 16 March 1856. Her death registration apparently identifies a daughter, Jemima, and son, William, born during the time she was with Richard.
William Eagar, land agent / steward, Ireland 1800s

wondering would anyone have any information on a william eagar who was a land agent or steward in ireland in the 1800s, i dont have a birth date for him, on his daughter sarahs wedding certificate in 1872 he is signed as a land agent, similarly on his daughter susans birth record,
on the birth record he is recorded as living in meath,
daughter sarah on the cenus in 1901 states she was born in meath in 1858, his wifes name is caterine..
but i cant locate birth marriage or death records for him, or records of any children other than susan,
there is another william eager in the 1911 census listed as a land agent in co down, so there is a possible family link there i would imagine.. also one of his ( 1911 in down ) daughters is called susan..

Thank you for the explanaton.

Sorry, no birth certificate. My mother got the info from my grandmother a long time ago when she first started to write down the family information for me and my 3 sisters in ±1990. She said that Raymond Gregory Eager left Northern Ireland because he became a protestant and came to South Africa. He became member of the NG Church and was a shopkeeper in Benoni where he died 2 Feb 1914 in Victoria Avenue.

His death notice on his estate documents in the "Transvaalse Argief Bewaarplek" (TAB) under number O/63116.

From which marriage of Charles Ross Eager with Magdalena Elizabeth Schoombie or Elizabeth Hestor Ford was Raymond Gregory Eagar and Charles Aidan James Eagar born. We there any other children? Info on their parents?

I had the full names of the Charles Ross Eager you are talking about as Charles Aiden James Ross Ford Eager. The surnames ROSS and FORD now comes into play with your information.

I think that the information on RG Eager's children are more accuratly written down as my parents still knew some of them.

'Co Kerry Ireland', means County Kerry Ireland. There are thirty two counties in Ireland, 26 in the Republin of Ireland and 6 counties in, what we call Northern Ireland.
Dublin is in the Republic of Ireland and not Northern Ireland.
Can you tell me how you know that Raymond Gregory was born in Dublin? Do you have a birth certificate?
The names that I have for the two wives of Charles Ross Eagar are Magdalena Elizabeth Schoombie and Elizabeth Hestor Ford.
As I said already, I'm not sure how accurate my information is on this particular family. You might be able to set me straight.

Just saw this message and the replies to same. There was a Charles Eagar b Co Kerry Ireland married to Elizabeth Ross who had a son Charles Ross Eaagar b circa 1827 Co Kerry or Sth Africa. He married twice, one of his children was a Raymond Gregory Eagar and another was a Charles Aidan James Eagar, both born in Cape of Good Hope. Charles Ross Eagar died in Sth Africa in 1878. Charles A J died in Transvaal in 1915 and Raymond Gregory Eagar died around 1914 in Sth Africa. I'm not sure of some of the details, but its mostly correct. Is this of any help.

Hi Raimund

Unfortunately I do not know much about my father's history as he was a very private man and did not reveal much. All I know is that he was born in the Congo on 12 August 1925, left the congo as a young boy to come to SA and joined the SA army at the age of 16 to fight in World War II. He once mentioned that his family was originally from Ireland, but he never had any contact with family, not since I was around. I found out after his death that he had been previously married, but have no other details.

My father was very special to me and I have been trying for some time now to learn more about our roots. I would really appreciate any information you have. My email address is Michelle.Espag@za.gt.com.

Many thanks and kind regards

I see now that I made a stupid mistake in the surname!!!!

One thing is for sure that I got the Eager family names with the exception that my grandfather, Raymond Gregory Roberts, changed my father's first name to the German version as he got so annoyed when the people called him Ray, that he changed the name to Raimund. I am therefor Raimund Gregory Roberts.

I do have however info with some 4 generations of our same ancesters but only in text format. Please send fax or e-mail info to forward this to you?

Can you please help me with your information to add to my family tree.

Hi there,

I assume that you have any informaiton Imight provide but I can tell you a bit. In fact, if you can fill in any holes, I'd love to know.

Ferris lost the castle due to support for the Rebellion in 1641. He and his family were transported and the castle went to someone. I don't know who it went to immediately but I think it may have been a Lancelot Sandes. He may simply have gotten lands in the area, however, and not the castle. Sandes had fought with Cromwell (not in the earlier rebellion and I do not believe he was an "adventurer") and was almost certainly granted lands in 1666 for the reason of his service. I'm not sure that the lands Sandes received lands were from Turlough McOwen Ferris but I believe they were. The Sandes consolidated their holding a few years later out of Kerry. Who the lands transferred to could be significant but I do not know who that would be.

In one source I read, Francis Brewster received the castle in 1656, again, after the Ferris family was "transported". In any case, at some poing the castle was leased to Robert Eagar who came into the county from County Laois (Queen's County). By most sources, Brewster had the castle by 1677.

What I am most certain of is that, aroudnt he turn of the century, the castle and neighboring grounds were transferred in ownership to Eagar by Brewster who, I believe, was in Dublin at the time.

I'd love to know if this reflects what you know about that castle.

Good luck with your work,

Richard Beckwith

I am a descendant of John Eagar and Sariah Anna Johnson and would like to connect with others who are researching this family. I know quite a bit about John and Sariah, including John's life in Utah, and Sariah's ancestors.
I would like to find out more about John's Irish roots, if anyone has already found clues.
Is anyone coordinating this board?
Sincerely, Vicki Schwab
