John Eagar's Personal History

For anyone descended of or interested in John Eagar, Son of Lucy Buell and Thomas Eagar, I just found a history that he wrote about his trip on the ship Brooklyn and his experiences as one of the first in the gold fields in California. This may not be new to anyone else, but I didn't know it existed. I'm currently transcribing it so I can share it with anyone interested.
PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

Bonnie Belcoe Eagar
Posted: Wednesday, Oct 31, 2007 - 10:04:32 am PDT
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE

Bonnie Belcoe Eagar passed away at home on Oct. 28, 2007, due to complications associated with breast cancer.

Bonnie was born Nov. 1, 1955, as Virginia Susanne Korten in Bremerhaven, Germany. She became Bonnie Belcoe when she was adopted as an infant by M.V. Steve and Amelia Belcoe. At the age of four, Bonnie left Germany with her new family and traveled to a new home in the United States. Bonnie was the daughter of a naval officer, which resulted in many moves across the country. After her father's retirement, the family settled in the Columbia Basin, first in the Royal Slope area and then in Moses Lake. Bonnie graduated from Royal High School in 1973. The following fall, she entered Brigham Young University (BYU). She received her B.S. degree in 1977. It was while she attended BYU that Bonnie met her husband, W. Dale Eagar. They were married on June 30, 1977. Bonnie and Dale were blessed with four children. The first two-Amber and Brianne-were born while the couple lived in Utah. They moved to Moses Lake in 1980 and were blessed with two more children-Kara and Zachary.

Bonnie was an active and admired member of her community where her involvement was spurred initially by her love and dedication to her own family. She began volunteering in the schools and classrooms of her children, and was later hired by the Moses Lake School District to serve in several positions, including Volunteer Coordinator, Community Resource Director, and finally School-to-Work Coordinator. After years of service with the Moses Lake School District, Bonnie accepted a position at the Columbia Basin Job Corp as their business-community liaison. She retired due to health reasons in June of 2007. Regardless of her position, the thing Bonnie enjoyed the most about her work was the chance to serve and interact with the wonderful people of Moses Lake.

Bonnie was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in April 2004. In spite of her diagnosis, she refused to let the cancer control her life and remained active and vibrant. Often when Bonnie was asked how she was doing, she simply replied, "I'm looking at the right side of the grass." Bonnie viewed her diagnosis as another opportunity to educate and serve. Following her retirement, Bonnie became involved with the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Dale; daughter, Amber Smith and her husband, Delmar, of Kirkland, Wash.; daughter Brianne Climer and her husband, Edward, of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter Kara Redd and her husband, Nathan, of Santa Clara, Calif.; her son Zachary Eagar and his wife, Lindsey, of Provo, Utah; four grandchildren, Joshua Climer, Julie Climer, Jessica Climer, Hannah Redd; and her brother Steve Belcoe of Casper, Wyo.

Funeral services for Bonnie will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, in the Moses Lake Washington LDS Stake Center, located at 1515 S. Division St. Public viewings for the community and friends will be held 5 p.m. to 7 pm, Thursday, at Kaysers Chapel of Memories, and from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. immediately prior to the funeral service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, it was Bonnie's wish that memorial contributions be made to the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 1337, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
Eagar's of Ballymalis and Killarney

My grandfather Edmond Eager/Eagar lived in Killarney and was born in Bandon, Co. Cork.
His father's name was also Edmond and he was born in
Killarney in 1864 (he was christened in Kilcummin Parish, Co.
Kerry). Edmond's wife, Susan Murphy, was from Lough, Co. Cork.

Edmond's parents were John Eagar and Elizabeth "Bess" Fleming. John
was from Ballymalis and Bess was from Kilcummin. In addition to my
great-grandfather, John and Bess had three other sons, Roland (born in
1867), James (born in 1865)and John (christened in 1871 in a Roman Catholic church in Killarney)

From my research, I've learned that Ballymalis was the place of
origin for many Eagers. I hope this might sound familiar to
someone. If so, please let me know.

For any descendents of Robert and Hannah who aren't aware of it, there are portraits of both of them hanging in Lauren Rogers Museum, Laurel, MS. These portraits are originals with original frames and were passed down through their daughter, Medora Eagar Williams', family before ending up in Osyka, MS and donated to the museum from there.

I am interested if anyone has ever located information on Robert's death records and grave site in Tennessee.

I will go home this weekend and get all the information I have about my Eagar connection. I come from John Thomas Eagar who sailed to San Francisco on the Brooklyn. I have information about the family including photos of the family castle at Ballymallis Ireland. I'll try and send as much information as I can on January 22.

Seeking additional information on Sarah Eagar who came to Charleston, S.C. from the Armagh/Newry are of what is now Northern Ireland, sometime shortly after 1800. My great, great grandfather, Robert Eagar (Eager?) fought in the war of 1812, married Hanna Arabella Prince in Charleston in 1814, died in Tennessee in 1844. He probably had a brother, who might have been a twin, named George. Robert probably born about 1789 in Ireland. Don't know what ship he arrived on or Irish roots beyond possible vacinty of birth.

Any help??
