What a complex web! John McAdam Eaglesham married Elizabeth Gordon McKellar in Kirkoswald in 1905. Their children were: James 1905, Margaret Clowes 1906, Archibald McKellar 1908, Charlotte Britton 1911, and Elizabeth Gordon McKellar 1914.
John McAdam Eaglesham's parents were James Eaglesham and Charlotte Britton. Elizabeth Gordon McKellar's parents were Archibald McKellar and Margaret Clowes (m.1875).
Margaret Clowes' parents were Alexander Clowes and Elizabeth Gordon (my direct ancestor's sister) (m. 1847).
Margaret Clowes' sister Elizabeth married James Britton in 1882 in Girvan. Her brother John married Jessie Cumming in 1875 in Ayr. Her sister Mary married John Orr in 1872 in Girvan, and their daughter married Thomas McClymont in Girvan in 1897.
Connections span the generations, but I wish I knew more!

My Margarett Neill Eaglesham, (spelt Eaglesome), parents James Eaglesome and Annie Neill, born Jan. 27, 1859, Girvan, Ayrshire, father James a cotton weaver, lived on Dalrymple St. I have a faint copy of census sent to me from a connection I have just discovered, Margarett lived with the Neill's then. Margarett married Peter Alexander Aitkin, (born Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, 1852, parents Peter Aitken and Mary Jane Mackay. They married 11 December, 1889 in Blackall, in central queensland, australia, and amongst the children had a daughter Lilly Alexandrina Margarett Bell Aitken, (m g/grandmother), who consequently married an Albert Thomas Collins on 24 Dec, 1914. If there are any connections, please feel free to email me direct at jmccarrick@austarnet.com.au, as I have a hard time relocating board, (computer new).
My great grandfather was James Eaglesham (b 28/10/1856) married to Charlotte Britton 26/11/1875, his father was James Eaglesham (b23/08/1818) married to Annie Cumming, his father was James Eaglesham born 1780/90 married to Janet McGaan. I don't know his father, but maybe his grandfather is also the father of Robert Eaglesham who was married to Jean McClymont.
I have details of three marriages who could be potentially his grandfathers :- William Eaglesham married to a Margaret Baird on 15/6/1717 , James Eagleshum (sic) married to a Elizabeth Greene, on14/4/1725 and John Eaglesome (sic) who was married to Sarah Mc Blain on 13/12/1726. The first two were married at Kirkoswald, the last at Dailly.
Hope this helps a bit.

I have been reading the messages from the various eagleshams. I actually live in Kirkoswald in Ayrshire which seems to be the 'mother ship' as far as eagleshams go. I can trace my direct ancestors back to about 1780/90, but I've got as far back as about 1650. I've recently been researching my family history, and have a load of info about Eaglesham's, which I have at home.

Thanks for the reply. My Eaglesham's emmigrated from Scotland in the 1830's. So I have to go back to the G G Grandfather (John Eaglesham) level to get back to Ayrshire. My Great Grandfather was William Eaglesham (lived outside of Dunnville). My Grandfather was Robert Eaglesham (born in Hamilton, Ontario) and also resided in the Dunnville area. I don't know how all that matches up with your husband's family. It sounds as if they are from the same area in Scotland, but may have come to Canada at a later date.

Rob Eaglesham

Thanks for the reply. My grandfather Robert Coffer Eaglesham was born in Hamilton in 1880. His father William was born in 1850 I am told in Glengarry County (Alexandria, Ontario area). William's father John was from the Maybole area in Ayrshire and emmigrated some time in the 1830's. I am sorry I can't be more specific than that at present. Certainly your family is from the same area of Scotland and there could well be a link somewhere.
Eagleshams

My great grandfather was William Halliday Eaglesham born in 1850 in Ontario, Canada. His father was John Eaglesham, who emmigrated from Ayrshire in the 1830's. I have yet confirmed it, but I believe he was the son of John Agnes in your family tree. William had a number of brothers who moved to the Chicago and New York City areas in the late 1800's from Canada. Is any of this sounding familiar?

Rob Eaglesham

I'm sorry, I have no Margaret that could have been married at this time or any mention of a Peter. There is probably a link though as my family were also from Ayrshire, dating back to at least 1730

Hello Rob

We are descendants of Robert Eaglesham born 1772, married to Margaret Ross, Robert is the brother of James Eaglesham born 1765. We have traced the family through Robert and Margaret so would be interested to find out more about the descendants of James and Isabell, we have her surname as Hutchison, but all the other details are the same.

Our branch of the family remain in the UK, did most of James and Isabell's family emmigrate?

Thank you
Eileen Bone

Hi Rob,
Don't recall if I answered your question regarding John Eaglesham. I have not traced any to Canada yet ( see your message below). You can reach me at richpettit.com or visit my website at richpettit.com for more details on my Eagleshams.
Rich Pettit

My great grandfather was William Halliday Eaglesham born in 1850 in Ontario, Canada.
