Eakin Looking For Friends and Family

Hi,
My Mom, Rosealtha Eakin (aka RosaLu and Rose), and I are working on our family tree and are trying to locate old friends and acquantices of hers. We are trying to make contact with anyone who knew mom personally or may have worked with her at the Newberry's store in Ashtabula, Ohio in 1952. Mom was 22 years old in 1952 and lived in Kingsville, Ohio with her family. Her father was a Presbyterian minister. Mom is in her 70's and we are trying to find people who can fill in the gaps for us though the people she knew.

I am researching their descendants and have ran into a stumbling block. I have them with 6 children as follows: Andrew,John, Margaret, Samuel,James, and Mary E. These 6 children are listed in the will of James Eakin forn 1712. I would like someone to help me figure out where an Alexander forn 1760 comes into the line I have that he was married to a Lucy J and a Margaret(b1762) and that they had a son named James born 1804. James married a Mary Grant in December 1825. The Alexander is shown to be the son of James born 1712. I do not think he is the son of James because there is no mention of him in the will. can anyone clear this up.

EAKIN Venango/Lawrence Co PA, and elsewhere

I am just getting back to work on my Eakin family after a longish break. After doing some searching on this list, there were certainly people here who were researching a collateral line (or two) of my family. Hope they are still monitoring the list.

My earliest direct ancestor is Joseph b 1819 Ire d 1893 in Venango, married Eliza McKay. Father David, grandfather Samuel, great greatfather William.

Most of Joseph's children were b Lawrence Co PA, around Rosepoint, as far as I know. I have not documented the births yet. These children were William, James, John, Elizabeth, Francis, Mary Jane, and Isabella, all born between abt 1850 and 1861. John is in my direct line.

I noticed in searching the list that a number of people were researching Joseph's brother, William (m Margaret Gibson). I would love to share information. I am not a "name gatherer", but I do feel that collateral lines are important. There can be so many clues there!!

If these people are of interest to you, please let me know.

EAKIN, S. B., of Eugene, was born in Elgin, Illinois, September 27, 1846, and came to Oregon when twenty years of age, driving a four-mule team across the plains. He has lived continuously in Eugene, and is cashier of the First National Bank. He has been an active Republican continuously, and frequently a member of county and state convention. He was elected Sheriff in 1874 and re-elected in 1876 and 1878. In 1882 he was elected to the legislature, and in 1886 to the State Senate, serving two sessions.

EAKIN, ROBERT, of Union, was born in Elgin, Illinois, March 15, 1848, and came to Oregon in 1866, locating in Eugene. He attended the Willamette University, graduating in 1874, and the next year was admitted to the bar. The same year he settled in Union County in the practice of his profession. He has been an earnest and influential Republican, and has taken an active part in managing party affairs. He was a delegate to the county convention of 1876, and nearly every subsequent one. He was chairman of the county central committee six years, and a delegate to the state convention in 1884, 1888 and 1892. In 1880 he was nominated for County Judge and in 1882 for District Attorney, and in 1892 for District Judge of the Sixth District. In February, 1895 he was appointed Judge of the Eighth District by Governor Lord. Judge Eakin is a member of the Republican Club at Union.

"Charles Vanray Eakin, 40, of Choctaw died Tuesday, October 25, 2005. He was born October 2, 1965 in Dallas, TX to Burl Eakin and Karen Magsam Eakin.
He was an electrician and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Hogan Eakin of the home; a daughter Katelyn Eakin; two sons, Joseph and Jesse Eakin; his father, Burl Eakin of Choctaw, his mother, Karen Lauro of Pennsylvania; a brother, Joe Eakin of Virginia; three sisters, Candy Dilda of Pennsylvania, Angel Wells of Virginia, and Taffey Clark of Maryland.
A memorial service was held Friday, October 28 at Roller-McNutt Chapel in Clinton."

Ambers Leon Eakin of Washington, PA

Looking for information about the ancestors of Ambers Leon Eakin from Washington PA. He married Carrie B. Taylor and lived on Chestnut St. They had seven sons and one daughter.
Fay Kendall (my Grandfather), Leon, Shan, Fred, Charlie, Glade, Glen, and Flossie. Ambers was a City Coucilman when Washington was still a Township.
Fay married Leota Rettinger and lived in the same house on Chestnut St. He too was City Councilman for a number of years. They raised Fay Kendall Eakin Jr. and Delores.
Fay Jr. married Margaret Zgainer, all of Washington, and had three children, which I am the oldest. Wesley Fay, Jill Louise, and Bruce Kendall.

They inter-married briefly with Kerrs & Carsons and after the mid 1800s the name disappeared from the Church of Ireland Records of Tedavnet (Ballinode) Parish. Has anyone gone further back than William Eakin b.1780 in Ireland that married Amy Bishop b. 1783. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I would love to have any stories about the family also. I know that William was the first sheriff of Attala County Mississippi. I have also heard about a Cherokee Indian in the family somewhere, and read many post about Eakin's and Indian's but can't connect any.

I hope someone can help me place Ann Eakin, the wife and longtime widow of Henry Steele, an innkeeper of New Castle, Delaware who died in 1827.

Ann was born in Delaware (according to census records) ca 1783. I do not know her parents or siblings. She had three sons and at least one daughter. The sons are Henry Steele (b. ca 1810), William E. (b. ca 1815), and Richard H. Steele (b. ca 1827).

Census records in 1830, 1840, and 1850 list her as head of house. By 1850 she has moved from New Castle to Wilmington. I have no record of her after the 1850 census.

I would like leads to Ann's possible parents and siblings and to her daughter. Thank you!

He hopes by paying strict attention to his business, to share a part of the public patronage.
N. B. Horses taken in at very reasonable terms. Expresses sent to any part of the United States. Wilmington June 24 1823.

He also advertises a gig for sale and on Feb. 4, 1825, publishes a notice ("Stop the Swindler!") reporting a stolen horse and offering a reward for its return.

He was educated in Ireland to become a Catholic priest, but became a Baptist minister when he came to America. His son was William Hartwell Eakin born in 1852. William married Nannie M Jordan, and died in 1879 near Marshall, Texas. Any information would be appreciated!

I need something cleared up. Rebecca Eakin (dau of David & Mary MacIntire Eakin) married Absalom A. Sheppard on
Nov 10, 1835 (per Lawrence County Mississippi Marriages 1818-1879).

On the 1840 Lawrence Co, Ms census is the family of A. A. Shepperd, 1 male under 5, 1 male 15-20, 2 males 20-30, 1 female under 5, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 50-60.

Is this that family. Their daughter Amanda Jane would be the female under 5, and Absalom and Rebecca would be the male and female 20-30. Is the male under 5 their son?? Who are the rest? Were they living with Absalom's family?

I have my David & Mary Eakin in Clarke Co, Ms in 1840 living near an Alexander Shepherd, which at first I thought was Absalom & Rebecca. But the ages of the family don't fit. They have 2 males under 5, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 20-30, and 1 female 20-30. No Amanda Jane.

In 1850 Jasper Co, Ms, Amanda Jane is living with her grandparents.
In Clarke Co, Ms there is Alexander Shepherd 34, with wife Elizabeth 34, George 12, Thomas 11, another son 10, another son 9, Albert 7, Alexander 6, Margaret 5, Virginia 2, and Laura 8 mos. Also with them is an Eliza Kidd age 16, and Ophelia Miller age 4.
In Lawrence Co, Ms is A. A. Sheppard 38, Eliza 34 (2nd wife?), Joseph F 14, Sarah 10, Allen A 4, Mary A. 2. Also with them is Sarah Dees 19, and Lecy Dees 17, whom I guess are Eliza's sisters??)

Is this family in Lawrence County the family of Rebecca & Absalom, after Rebecca died? I guess Absalom remarried. So Joseph, Sarah, and Allen were children of Rebecca?
And why was Amanda living with her grandparents instead of her father & stepmother?
Any ideas. Also please let me know the documentation for this family.

They had 2 kids, Mary Elizabeth and John Benjamin. Margaret died in 1841, Mary went to live with her aunt in Smith County. I have no idea of Minor`s family tree or what became of him and his son, John. Mary was born in either 1836 or 1838 and I believe John was younger. Do these names mean anything to anyone?

Who was the first Edwin Eakin? I see that there have been several. My grandfather, born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1880, was the first of several Edwin Eakin Steeles. His great grandmother, who married Henry Steele of New Castle, Delaware, was Ann Eakin. I would like to know who my grandfather was named for.

I would also like to identify Ann Eakin's family. There were many Eakins in Delaware from (at least) the mid-eighteenth century.
