Hi Patrick - I forgot to say I have tried to establish more about Ned - I have a death cert for an Edward Earle 14.03.1950 of Greenhall, Wells, Gorey, but I don't think he's ours as the informant re. the death was his son Samuel, and we don't have a Samuel. I also have a marriage cert for a Peter Earl and Anne Earl (yes - both had same surname before marriage)- 12.11.1863, who could be Ned's parents - note there is no E on the end of Earl, but I've seen it spelt both ways elsewhere. I have a birth cert for an Edward Earle from Cullenttra(?)born 20.05.1873 - his parents are given as Edward (which doesn't tie in with the Peter recorded on Ned's marriage certificate, but Edward could be the family name that maybe was given because of the traditional namimg pattern, but perhaps wasn't used, as I've found elsewhere) and Jane nee Stenson. Edward Earle senior's profession is given as saddler. Does any of this sound familiar? I don't even know if Ned stayed in the Enniscorthy/Gorey area when he remarried - if the story is true that he was disowned when he remarried after Mary Kenny, he may well have moved away from the area. Do you have any more info, either about Earles or Finns? My tree is on Ancestry site if you'd like to view it. Julia

Hi Patrick. Good to hear from you. I'm afraid I don't know know a lot about Ned Earle - although I'd love to! The story about him re-marrying came from a relative called Margaret Gilbert - she also told us that the woman Ned married the second time was black. I have a bit of a mystery going on as to whether Ned was actually the father of my husband's Gran, Mary Earle, as she was born before they were married, and I can't find a birth record for Mary anywhere. However, she is shown as a child of his on the 1911 census. Can you tell me where you fit into the Finn family? My info re. the Finns comes mainly from Fr James Finn of Ballyregan. I know that Lawrence and John Earle (sons of Ned) married sisters, Margaret and Kathleen/Catherine/Kitty Finn - is this your Gran? I have a record of Lawrence marrying in 1941, and possibly having 2 children, Mary (1942) and Edward Seamus (1943) - would this Edward be your father? Look forward to hearing from you. best wishes, Julia

The little information I have does indeed match! I am so excited about that. The only difference it that the will I have read from James Langdon states that the land he left to a church for a cemetery was the Symmes Creek Missionary Baptist Church not the Harmony Baptist Church. I have seen a a sign at the Langdon cemetery that states that it is a subsidiary of the Symmes Creek Missionary Baptist church. That is the only difference. I have information on some of their decedents. Let me know if you would like that information. Thank you so much for the link!

Crystal:

Thank you for your reply!

The information I have on Elizabeth is that she was born Sept. 1749 at Granville County, the Colony of North Carolina; she died 08 Mar 1842 at Ash County, North Carolina. Elizabeth married a Jesse Earls, born about 1745 at Brunswick County, Colony of Virginia. Jesse and Elizabeth married about 1772 at Granville County, North Carolina.

The child of Elizabeth and Jesse was Charles Earls, born Dec 1773 at the Colony of North Carolina. He died 23 May 1848 at Lawrence County, Ohio.

After Jesse's apparant death in 1775, Elizabeth married George Smith on 08 Jun 1775 at Granville County, Colony of North Carolina. George Smith was born March of 1745 or 1746; he died 30 Apr 1838 at Ashe County, North Carolina.

Elizabeth and George had three daughters: Elisabeth, Susannah, and Sarah.

I received my information from several different individuals, and from Jim Earles that transcribed information from the Smith Family Bible.

See the information from Jim Earles at http://www.ncgenweb.us/ncwarren/fam-hist/earles.htm

Please let me know if this information agrees, or disagrees, with the information that you have.

Thank you,
Dyon

I am looking for a Drury Earle, born abt. 1810 in N.C. I have found him in Cherokee, TX. in 1860 but after that his whole family is gone. He had a brother (Elijah Earle) and his father was ? Bennett Earle. I have been trying for years to find my great grandfather James Buchanan Earls born in Alabama. I think his grandfather or father was Drury. If you can help with this I would really appreciate it. You are right, the families never seem to match. Thanks so much.

Virginia Earle from Westfield, New Jersey

I have in my possession a bible dated 1865. Inside it is written in ink Virginia Earle from her godmother Christmas 1865 and on another page written in pencil Virginia Earle Westfield, New Jersey. The one written in pencil is from a different writer. I am assuming that Virginia wrote her name in it. The bible is hardback, very small and the front cover has come away from its binding. I have carried this bible for 20 years and I actually found it at a garage sale in Texas of all places. I collect old books and I bought it for a dime. If anyone is related to this Virginia Earle I would be happy to pass it on the them.

Re: Earle in Texas, Mississippi, & Tennessee

Hi there,

I’ve been out of town for a few days so a little late getting back to you. Thank you so much for responding. I had begun research years ago on the Earls family, but due to a busy time I put it aside and am just now getting back to it. For many years we had a family reunion in McMinnville, it was a great week-end, spending time with everyone. As the elder family members began to pass away and the younger ones moved away, we held it every two years then just ceased. We did have through the years members of the Earls family from Texas who attended these events. A few Earls family members still live in the McMinnville area. I was well acquainted with the story of John B. making the trip to McMinnville. I believe my father who passed away in 2006 at the age of 95, went with other family members to McMinnville to see him before he returned to Texas. I spoke with an Earls who lived in California that came from the line in Arkansas. Their son, Dr. Wayne Earls is a Baptist minister in the Atlanta area. My husband will be there in July – I plan to go with him and hopefully make contact with him. My brother has spoken several times with the Oklahome link.

A member of my family spent a few days in McMinnville several years ago going thru the library and court house papers. We plan to get together soon and compare what we have.

I have looked also for Earl link to the Revolutionary War. So far, haven’t been very successful. I have a few links that I’ve not connected yet. My dad spoke often of the McGee family in Warren Co. I know that he visited them and had spent many nights in their house when a young boy. He thought very highly of the McGee family. I don’t remember ever meeting them but had heard him speak of them many times thru the years. I always thought they were distant relatives. This name came back in memory and as I researched the McGee Family Genealogy I found some interesting connections. Looking at the major lines in the genealogy, I find an Earls listed in the Robert Cook descendents along with Pirtle (also in the Earls genealogy,) Hooper (which I am sure I have come across ) McGee and Earls. Also in same genealogy, George Pirtle descendants list Hooper, McGee, W. Earls, U. Earls. In the Thomas Wilcher also list England, Earls. Pirtle and McGee. Are you familiar with any of these names?

My dad always talked of relatives in N.C. but I don’t recall ever meeting one. There is another name in the family that I would like to track down. I know this spelling is not correct, Gillitines. I have tried all spellings but have not found the correct one. This name may be connected with William T.’s 1st wife, Tennessee Nunnally. My brother remembers the name also.

I feel that you have much more information than I have. If I am not correct please tell me. I am at your mercy in this, just beginning to get my feet wet!

I saw that you had also posted a note on the Message Board. I saw the note there from Martha Moginley. I find it interesting that she thinks all the Earls, Earle. etc. in the U.S. are related. You may have seen it as well. I would certainly like to know how she came to this idea.

Thanks so much for your time, hope to talk again soon. Brenda E.
Thank you for your kind information! Wouldn't you know, after reading your information - I have even MORE questions:

#1. I see you refer to this William Earle/Earles/Earls as "William H." - do you have any references or sources for the middle "H."??

#2. Child #"vi" - Dau. Earls - in my records, I have this daughter listed as Suscy Earle. I have referenced the Wills of Rutherford County, North Carolina.

Also, I would certainly be interested in your Endnotes!

Thank you again!

not sure if we spoke before but my great grandfather was an Earle they lived on the Watch-House-Hill in Ballycanew. His name I believe was Edward also Ned born 1874?who went to New Zealand and died there in 1968 he has a brother George out there as well.
My Grandmother was Mary Earle who became a Cotten, I know she had a sister Ann who died early and was buried in a grave in Ballyoughter not far from Camolin it was the wrong grave Timmins but the other family left her there. There was another sister Liz who died in Boston. I remember some one saying there was an old man who lived in the house at the corner in Ballycanew as u turn sharp to go to Wexford.
I am not sure if they would be related but there was Ned and another brother who lives in Graystones they might be related someway. My grandmothers mother was buried in Greystones, she was to go to live in New Zeland but Ned never sent for them.
Please let me know if you think they might be distant relatives thanks Brendan

Hi Brendan
Sorry it's taken me a while to respond to you. The only way that I think your Ned Earle could be the same as mine is if the family you refer to was his second family. I have been told that, after marrying Mary Kenny on 12.07.1905 and having the children Mary, Anne, Peter, Letitia, John (Jack), Marcella and Lawrence, Ned apparently left his wife, and went on to marry again. He was apparently disowned by the family at this time. Ned's occupation on his marriage certficate is given as horse trainer, if that helps.
Best wishes, Julia

Charles Earle, lineman killed instantly by contact with a live wire.

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 15 October 1903 Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

KILLED BY LIVE WIRE

Lineman for Telephone Company Met Instant Death

Oklahoma City: Charles Earle, a lineman enployed by the Missouri and Kansas Telephone Company in this city, was instantly killed by contact with a live wire, while attempting to locate a wire trouble at the corner of Ninth and Walnut Streets, in Maywood.

Chief Inspector Jennings, of the same company, drove out to the locality named, and both ascendent the telephone pole on the northeast corner of the street intersection. Earle had gotten firmly seated on a cross-arm and, with nippers in hand, was reaching out to grasp a telephone wire when Jennings, who was sitting close to him, heard him groan and looking quickly that way saw his unfortunate companion fall forward and hang limp on the wire. Jennings moved quickly to him and pulled Earle from the wire. The sticken man once opend his eyes, but immediately closed them and fell back dead, but held in his position by supporting wires.

A Maywood station fireman came along shortly after and was hailed by Jennings. Robinson climbed the pole and Jenniings helped him place the body of Earle on his shoulder and it was brought down and taken into the residenc of Dr. J. M. Postelle, near by. Coroner Messenbaugh was notified and went out to view the remains. After learning the facts relating to the accident he concluded that an inquest was unnecessary.

The deceased was about 26 years old, unmarried. At present the home of his parents is not known, but it is believed he came from Salina, Kansas.

George Anthony Earle or Charles Anthony Earle

Hi Can anyone help, We are looking for my husbands family on his father's side.
His father came from USA to UK, we think the New York area during the mid 1960s, he is a black American and we think he is called either Charles Anthony Earle or Goerge Anthony Earle. We do see him, but he is so secretive of his past not his ex wife, girlfriend or sons know that much about him. We are fairly sure he was born in 1944 on 19th September and has not really had much to do with his American relatives since then.
