I'm descended from Benjamin C. Arp, son of
James Addision Arp, grandson of Benjamin Arp
of Monroe Co, Tenn. I also grew up hearing
the tale of how the name changed but ours
was a little different. My grandfather told
me that his grandfather Benjamin C. Arp told
him the last name was changed from Earp to
Arp to avoid retaliation for the acts of
famous family members named Earp, Wyatt,
Virgil & Morgan. I've met numerous cousins
that tell the same story. First the suname
was misspelled then finally changed.
