My grandmother named her first born Mary Vashtire and I also noticed that one of her children was Bernice Inez. My grandmothers maiden name was Carrie (Caroline) Mae Johnson and she married John Douglas Wade. She was born in Yonkers New York and her mother Caroline was a native American Indian also from New York.

My wife, Esther nee Easom, is the g.g.granddaughter of Thomas Easom, a cordwainer, who was born about 1809 at Whaplode, Lincs and died in 1875.
He married Charlotte Molesworth, born about 1817 and they produced 8 children:-
At the 1861 UK Census they were:-
Eliza aged 19
Martha aged 17
George A aged 13 emigrated to Canada, died 1905. Married Annie Maria Smith, who died London, Ontario 1939. (your g.grandfather ?)
William H aged 11
Charles F aged 9 (my wife’s g.grandfather.) married Jane Wilson 9 Nov 1875 at Guisborough, N Yorkshire and died there 14 July 1941. 5 children - John 1876/1952, Charlotte, Cissie, Annie, Emma
*Elizabeth born 1840
*Marian born 1838
John born 1841, died 1842

* not at home, at Turnpike Side, Whaplode on day of the census

I don’t know how much detail you already have. If you are Jayne McFarlane,I imagine you have been fed with quite a lot by Dorothy Bintley, my wife’s cousin, who has compiled much of the Easom branch and continues to do so. Using Ancestry.co.uk and Genes Reunited I’ve only recently followed up her research and we are at present updating what we have discovered.
Please let me know if we can help further. You can access our tree with its 7 branches on Ancestry.co.uk under the Parker Tree. May we also view your tree ?
Henry & Esther Parker

Ihave a friend in South africa who is the Great Great Granddaughter of John George Easom b:1817 married to Precilla. As you will be aware the name has been spelt in 3 different ways through the centuries! It was his brother Nathaniel b:1826 that went to Australia and your side of the family. John's son Nathaniel b:1847 married Lavinia(unknown maiden name)and they had Nathaniel George(another one!) in 1880. He was a stone mason and emigrated to South Africa in 1901. He married Mary Lang and they had Kenneth Wilfren Easom, my friend's Father!I hope this is of interest to you. We also have a little more information on the branch of the family that stayed in Peryn, Cornwall. Please contact me and we can perhaps exchange addresses as my friend Mavis Damstra does not have a PC.I look forward to hearing from you in Austalia! wendythorn56@hotmail.com

I have a friend in South Africa whose Father was Kenneth Easom. We believe his Father was Nathaniel George Easom believed to have arrived in South Africa in 1901 at the age of 19.This does not appear to be the same Nathaniel found on the family tee born in 1826 to which you refer for he died in Australia! I have found another Nathaniel B. 1870 in Penryn and we think this may be her Grandfather but we are having trouble matching dates.Do you know of the branch of the family that emigrated to SA? He was apparantly a miner. All leads appreciated. wendythorn56@hotmail.com

Hi Karen,

lovely to hear from you. I had quite forgotten about posting the message on the Essom family way back in 2003. I just happened to be surfing the Ancestry site today and saw your message.

My father was Jack Essom, younger brother to your grandfather Charles Edward or Uncle Eddie as I always knew him. I'm a first cousin to your Uncle David and am quite often in telephone contact with he and Jill - we sometimes see them too but didn't manage to meet up last year.

Yes, I've been doing a lot of research on the Essom family tree for the past 10 years since I had access to the Internet. I will gladly share what I have on your grandfather and other members of his family. As a young girl (I was about 7 at the time), I stayed with your grandfather and his 2nd wife in Peterborough for a few months while my parents moved to the shop they had in Lincoln. His 1st wife Myra died the year I was born but I gather that my parents often used to go and stay with them.

I have your e-mail address from the message and will contact you with further details. My e-mail address is: jackie.essom@niace.org.uk (office) and jemessom@tiscali.co.uk (home e-mail).

Karen I promise that I will get back to you in the near future but I have an eye operation coming up on 28th Feb so may not find it comfortable to be looking at a computer screen for a time. Bear with me.

With best wishes to you and your family

Jackie Essom
38 Burton Road
Melton Mowbray
Leics
LE13 1DJ

Hello Jackie,

My name is Karen and I am Jasmine's youngest daughter. My sister Lynda has met you last time she was in England as you probably recall. My mother of course was an Essom and I have been curious about her father so I began to try and find something out however I am very new at this and am uncertain about everything. Mom didn't really say much about her father therefore I really don't have alot to go on. Lynda says his name was Edward but I am uncertain of that also. Isn't that terrible you would think I would know however I do not. I understand you have done quite a bit of work and was wondering if you could fill me in on what you know about my grandfather. I am also curious about my grandmother Ada Myra Messer if you can give me any information on her that would be wonderful too. Is it that your mother was my mothers Aunt or have I got that wrong? Oh well at least I am trying eh? Or should I say curious at this point? I appreciate any information you are willing to share with me and I am really glad I found you on here and am able to communicate with you. This is great. As I said I am Jasmine Essoms youngest daughter Karen and I am 44 years young I do have a twin Kevin who just recently was visiting my brother Wayne over there. Did you meet him? Well I have a 6 year old son Mason who I gave him Jaz for his middle name of course after my mothers name that is as close as i could get considering he's a boy. I could not very well name is Jasmine(ha ha)He was born 5 months after Mom passed. I wish mom could have shared his birth with me especially since I was her only girl who had a child. My sisters don't have any. My brothers do of course however I remember mom use to say to me that she really missed the fact that her mother did not get to share in the birth of her children and how shocked she would be to see that although she only had two children my mother and her brother she had 7 grandchildren from mom and 5 from Uncle David. She would often say she wondered what her mother would say having 12 grandchildren. Well she is with her mom now and so she got her answer I am sure she was proud of mom as I am to have had her for my mother and although she is not able to actually touch she is forever in my heart and soul and one day I know I will hear what she has to say about my son. And of course as mom was it will be positive and happy.
I hope to hear from you soon my email address is ksned@comcast.net. I appreciate your time. Take Care

Karen Snedeker
233 Elwood Street
Suisun City, California 94585

Hi,

I saw your request for an overseas link to the Easoms, I have Easoms in my family in Long Sutton in the 1800's but can't quite connect the John you were looking for. Did his father have brothers that you know of? I have a William Easom born in 1818 who married a Sarah Greathead, I wondered if he had brothers as one of their children was John born in 1849.

Hello. I realize this board has been inactive for a while but I have been reading the posts and found a connection in a few of them. Evan Lee has posted some messages concerning my GG Grandfather Mallory Easom and his sons. I would love to contact him but have been unsuccessful so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can be reached at the following email: lady_red_rosewine@yahoo.com

Thanks so much,
Jo Williamson

Re: Easom in Scotland

My great great grandfather was David Easom, son of James Easom, living in Fayetteville, NC area in 1830-1860, possibly a descendent of John Easom of the Fayetteville area in the 1790 Census. Fayetteville was full of Highland Scots immigrants coming directly from Scotland in the 1730-1770 period. My grandfather changed to the more familiar Eason spelling in the 20th century. I have never heard the name related to Isham, only to Easson, Isom and Ison, and likely coming from "Adam's son."

Hi ! My grandma was Helen Easom before she married. She had ten brothers and sisters! She passed away on Dec 26 of 2000. She had one daughter- my mom- and four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. We always knew the Easom name for us was an adopted one. My Great-grandfather was not English by blood, but most likely Oklahoma Indian.(Native American) and adopted in to the Easom household. That is the history I have been trying to discover. Thank you for writing back! Helen is a beautiful name that seems to come into and out of fashion every 50 years or so in America.

William Easom or Esom , born about 1750, came to this country and his name was then spelled Isham. He settled in Virginia and later the family moved to Washington co., KY. I know he is from northern Scotland and that he was married there. Two other brothers left Scotland but the rest of the family stayed there. Any clues appreciated.

My maternal grandmother was born Helen Easom, daughter of Earl and Elsie Easom. They were from the midwest and resettled in Florida. (1920's). We believe that "Earl" was adopted and Native American. May not be the line you are looking for, but Elsie had eleven kids, Leona, Helen , Ruth, Carl, James, Alvin, Nellie (Eileen), Linda, Lois, Martha, and Alice. Hope that helps, but maybe not.

ESSOM family name

Hi everyone,

another variation of the name! Is anyone out there researching the ESSOM family? My Gt Gt grandfather, James Essom (also spelt Essam and Easom in various registers) was born around 1800 in Sibson, Huntingdonshire, UK. He married Mary PLANT in Nassington, Northamptonshire in 1825 and moved with his family around 1850 to Wellington Lane in Peterborough. My grandfather, Herbert, moved to Gainsborough, Lincolnshire around 1900.

I have been told that the name may be of Dutch origin and I am aware that there is a town in Senegal, West Africa, called Essom (at one time Senegal was ruled over by the Dutch). I've also come across the name used as a first name rather than a surname. Can anyone shed any light on the matter? Would be interested to hear from you.

My great grandfather Messick H. Easom, Jr. came from Twiggs Co. GA to MS in 1858. I would love to find his brothers and sisters. The court house burned and destroyed all the records. His father was born in SC and his name was Messick H. Easom, Sr and was married to Nancy Howell.
Messick Jr. was married to Caroline Davidson. I'm sure our families are connected in some way, only if we could figure it out. It think they lived in Bibb Co. Ga at one time. In Messick Jr's bible (I think the bible was his fathers ) the names Soloman Easom, Isaac Easom, Charles T.Easom, Joseph Easom, Peter E. Easom, & William Easom is entered but we do not know how they were related.
Would appreciate your help.

I have come across the name Isaac Easom, in Georga in the early - to - mid 19thc. I suspect he may be a ggg grandfather or maybe uncle. Unfortunately, I don't have certainty beyond Charles Mallory Easom (gg grandfather) and Bennett (g gradfather). I am going to the 31st Easom Family Reunion in Cordele GA this coming Sunday and will definately be searching for clues.

I notice that Glen Eason, who is also on this message board, and is actually an EASOM decendent, has quite a lot of info on early ancertors. You might respond and run your names by him as well. I'll keep your address in my file, and let you know if I get any information.

-- Evan Easom Lee
