Help Please

London to Solihull and Malvern
Can you please help? Walter Gustave Noel Singleton, born 1893 Wandsworth, London. move to Solihull and had a hardware-ironmongers type of shop in Solihull. He was the brother of my grandfathers William Charles born 1889. Is there anything like a Kelly's or Pigot's trade directory, which covers Solihull in the late 1930's, or between 1940-42? This was the period when my grandfather visited the property to avoid the bombing in London. Hopefully this would list Singleton as the proprietor of the shop, with an address so that I may be able to obtain old photographs.

I have been informed recently that Walter Gustave Noel Singleton's wife's name is:
Ethel Ellen EASTAFF born1890 in Luton, they married in 1915 and had a daughter Mabel E Singleton born1920 Edmonton.
Ethel Ellen Singleton died 1988 Registration Malvern, Worcestershire Vol. 29 Page 647
Would anyone have any information on Walter Gustave Noel Singleton his wife Ethel Ellen Singleton or the daughter Mabel E Singleton (name changed if married)
Thank you,
Reg
Eastaff Family Tree for the UK

I have almost completed the Eastaff Family Tree for the UK back to about 1750 and can now trace most family members back to this date. The family originates from the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertforshire area.
I am still trying to trace the ancestors of Thomas George William Eastaff (1773- 1851). He was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich in 1793 and carried out the first ground survey of St John's, Newfoundland in 1805/6. He had a son William Grant Eastaff who was a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and practised at one time in Carbonnear, Newfoundland. Can anyone help?

David, I think I may have a missing piece of that puzzle for you. I am a descendant of Eliza Grant Eastaff - who I believe was Willam Grant's sister. I have a painting of William Grant Eastaff born April 4th 1816. I have found a number of links on the internet about him in Carbonnear as well. One of the links talks about his widow remarrying - but haven't found an obit for him yet. He also had a son...but can't find the son's name.

Eliza married my great-great grandfather Thomas A.J. Mason

There are a number of sites that talk about TGW Eastaff and his seven children and I have listed some of them on my little website as well.

I would love to know more about TGW and William if you have their ancestry.

Let me know how to email you, and I will send you the picture and web site where I have put this info.

Cheers

Jack (geneologyjack@hotmail.com)

Hi, I'm responding to this one as a long shot. My great-great-great-grandfather, Charles Douglas Eastaughffe, was said to have come to Australia c 1835 (said to have been born Inverness, Scotland c1800). His parents were Charles and Jessie. Unfortunately to date I have not been able to verify that information, so now I am looking down Eastaff, Eastoff, Eastaugh lines.

G'day,

I'm Michael John Eastaff, eldest son of John David Eastaff. I can confirm that there is more than one David Eastaff. My brother is is David Robert Eastaff. Where we fit into the picture I'm not completely sure. My Grandparents came to Australia with my father in the 50's. They are John and Helen Eastaff. I find it interesting that the names David and John seem to come up so often!

Michael J. Eastaff

Family Tree

I am now well on my way to building the Eastaff Family Tree going back ten generations. The roots have their origin in the Bucks/Beds area of Milton Keynes/Woburn/Leighton Buzzard with branches now in London, Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand. Please contact me me if you want to know more and let me have as much information on your part of the branch as possible. I will send you the most recent update of the tree and the Eastaff Newsletter No 1.
Having completed the 19th Century I am currently working through the General Register of Births and Deaths for the period 1900 to 2000 and have already reached 1935. Marriages will follow on.
Maybe you are part of the Tree already. Why not find out more!
Lieutenant, later Captain, Thomas George William Eastaff, educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich in the late 18th Century prepared the first survey map of St Johns, Newfoundland and Fort Townshend, Canada in 1806/1812.
Who were his ancestors and descendants? Can you help.
Dear Eric
Can you let me have your e-mail and postal addresses. I will then send you a copy of the family tree that I have built up to now. It goes back ten generations. I will now work on the Cambridge connection. Do you know the name of your grandfather? I am currently going through 200 years of the Deaths Register and have just completed 52 years from 1850 to 1901 in the last week. I will then start on the Births and Marriages. Fortunately the family name is rare there only being about 80 Eastaff families in the UK at present.
Can you let me have as much as you can of your family tree. Did your father live in Dulwich?
In the hope that you will contact me through e-mail.
Thanks for your response,
David John Eastaff

To Jenny Eastaff
Can you let me have your e-mail address and then I will tell you how far I have got with my research. Up to now I have not come across your grandfather's name but there is still hope. The family appears to have been centred around Bucks, Beds aand Herts with some extensions into London. Main centres were Milton Bryan, Bedford, Great Brickhill and Mentmore. A Dr Eastaff went to Canada in the early 19th Century and I have come across two Eastaffs in the USA. Three Eastaffs were killed in the First World War and one (my uncle) in the Second World War. He was on a Japanese pow ship when it was sunk my an American submarine in 1944. Please keep in touch. My e-mail address is:
bucksfizz@onetel.net.uk and my address is: 7 Norton Leys, Wavendon Gate, Milton Keynes, MK7 7TA

My maternal grandfather was John Howard Eastaff. I know nothing about him other than the fact that he was allegedly deceased at the time of my mother's marriage in 1935. I have, in the past sought for information about him at St Catherine's House in London but with no success. I have no knowledge of a Buckinghamshire connection. My mother was born in London. Are you David Robert Eastaff? My cousin, John David Eastaff lives in Australia and has a son, David. Whatever, I was very interested to see your message and hope to hear from you.
