My ancestors that came to Michigan also changed the I to an O it is I in KY records but O as they moved on to Michigan,I am trying to place my ancestor with the proper family,I have some speculation see below but would really appreciate help from my cousins....Thanks in advance

THIS IS THE FIRST PARAGRAPH OF THE BIOGRAPHY I SPEAK OF BELOW -
Portrait and Biographical Record of Berrien and Cass Counties, 1893 pp.
620-621 William W. EASTON, M.D., a practicing physician and surgeon of
Dowagiac, was born four miles from this city, in Silver Creek Township, October
3, 1853. His father was one of the early settlers of this section of Michigan.
While his paternal grandfather, Thomas Easton, was a native of Kentucky. His
great-grandfather, also named Thomas Easton, served with valor during the entire
period of the Revolutionary War, and shortly after the close of the conflict
came to Kentucky, having formerly been a resident of Virginia. Grandfather
Easton was a child of about ten years when he accompanied his parents to
Michigan, and with them settled in Berrien Township, Berrien County, remaining
there until his death, in 1867. The father of our subject, Thomas Easton, was
born near Bowling Green, Ky., on the 26th of November, 1826, and grew to manhood
in Berrien County.

Hello I am responding to the thread below I found on the web,I can not seen to
reach Phyllis her email is not functioning,it is an old one.I guess you might
call me a Johnny come lately as my research began about the time this was
posted,I have an interesting question and given I am unsure you will respond or
just how this thread worked out I will tell you more later.I have a man Thomas
Jefferson Easton born in KY 1794ish in 1816 in Jessamine county he married
Catharine King daughter of Berryman,1820 he is living in Henry county two
households from a John Easton aged between 26/44 sometime after 1828 he removed
to Crawford county IL where I find perhaps coincidentally a Daniel and Benjamin
Easton living near to him both with 10 years of age to him I believe.1834 they
went on to Indiana and 1839 places him in Berrien county Michigan near to South
Bend IN.

I have 2 biographies of the family written post mortem to Thomas J Easton born
1794 who died 1869 this one I would like to present was written in 1893 and is
full of inaccuracies where the first paragraph describes the family lineage,I
believe due to the numerous Thomases mentioned, the lineage spoken of is of the
Eastons, the lineage spoken of is William b1853 -Thomas born 1826 KY - Thomas b
1794 KY then it gets murky, the trouble is Thomas 1826 is referred to as
grandfather and father to William and Thomas b 1794 is referred to as having
come to Michigan as a boy of 10 with his father as I read it where it would be
Thomas of 1826 birth that came as a boy. Both instances are incorrect which
throws doubt on the author saying Williams great grandfather was Thomas a
revolutionary vet, firstly I know of no Thomas of VA that fought in the
revolution secondly for the obvious reasons I am skeptical given the
inconsistencies. However to say that Thomas jr born 1826 had a great grand father
named Thomas is possible given the Thomas born ca 1725 would place him as a
great grand father though not in the revolution that I know of but it could be a
generation was skipped in the description,do you understand my thought
process?Secondly I have seen Philip son of Thomas not son of Philip as I
understand there were 2 different Philips one having married to Sarah Hite Smith
and the other to Elizabeth Henderson, two circumstantial sets of evidence suggest
Philip may be the person I seek ,firstly Thomas Jefferson Easton has a son
Henderson and secondly a daughter Mahalia ,reportedly Philip has a dayghter
Mahalia and obviously I believe Henderson is named for Elizabeths maiden name.

In your studies I am sure you have had to distinguish your Philip jr from Philip
son of Thomas was Philip son of Thomas a revolutionary vet?was Thomas his father
a vet?,did Philip son of Thomas come to Kentucky?

I am an Eastin from north Missouri, and I am just getting back into ancestry research. I was born in Greentop Missouri in 1935. I have 1 brother, Wallace Eastin Jr. (deceased)I have 3 Childred,Cindy, Aleisa, and Richard.
Cindy and Aleisa live in Southern Texas as do I.
Richard and his family live in northern Missouri, (Kirksville) It is my understanding that some of my ancestors came from Ill, and parts East. My father was Wallace Eastin Sr. His father was Burr Eastin, and his father was David Eastin.
My family knowledge after that is a little shakey. The people I have mentioned above are interred at the Fugate cemetary a little north of Greentop Missouri.

Dear Lane,

I too am researching the line of Philip, Sr. who died in 1768. I have the information that he married two women named Elizabeth, one maiden name Douglas. However, I have not found any proof of his marriage to either Elizabeth. I would especially like to know if you have proof that he married Elizabeth Douglas. Do you have any information on his son Philip who married Elizabeth Henderson in 1782? I have found nothing after 1782. My Philip Eastin who married Sarah/Sarahanna Hite Smith, is found with Richard and Johnson Eastin in Frederick Co., Va. They seem to move together. Would like to correspond with you. My e-mail is Louisej995@aol.com

Louise

I read that you have put together some information about Augustine Eastin. I was wondering if you would be willing to share. I am interested in any information about that family, as Augustine's brother, John, is in my family. I'm collecting any information I can get. I look forward to hearing back anything you'd be willing to share. I don't have a lot of information, but will share anything I have about my family, that you'd be interested in.

Jesseca

My only information about Mary Bates Eastin is from a cousin who sent me a photocopy of a letter Mary wrote in 1989:

Photocopy of letter from Margie Bates Nelson, 3023 Pheasant Run, Kingwood, Texas 77339, to Texas Society, DAR. 29 May 1989. Quoted obituary from the Charleston (IL) Courier, 21st (1865) accessed at the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort, KY on microfilm. 15 Jan 1997.

Sorry that I could not be of more help.
Sharon Wells Gabel

Sorry for being a myth. I did not expect my message to be on the site for years and in fact would love to have it removed. I do have an index of the letters and will send it, via e-mail, to whoever requests it. Then, I'll forward copies of any letters requested.

If you had the number of requests I did from folks wanting the entire set, you too would have a tough time filling the orders.

An index is my way of solving the problem.

Hopefully this will eliminate any further nasty notes.

Ed Gillespie - The Myth

I have rescued a box of research notes regarding the Eastin line. Some of the other surnames includes Mourning, Spoon, Boone,Hoy, South, Wiegel, & Crow. It also contained some pictures and an old letter from 1895. I am not related to this line and do not have time right now to index the box, however I would like to see it go to the rightful researchers. If you think this Eastin line connects to you, please email me.

Tracie, Can you give me any more information on your grandmother's uncles, or could I contact your grandmother for information? We may be looking for the same information. If we are linked, I could give you some information I have. I'm anxious to hear from you.

Ed Gillespie sent me a copy of the index of Eastin letters. Such a nice guy. The index alone is fascinating! I need to research a little more before deciding what copies might be helpful.

Ed, Thank you so much for the email and also the hard copy of the index of the Eastin letters. I am trying to get some of our Eastin relatives together to go over these with me as they may know of connections or remember names that I don't. I will get back to you ASAP and let you know which ones we are interested in. The Index you put together is wonderful with the information needed for each letter. I thank you, and will get back to you as soon as we can determine which ones to order. Sincerely, Mary Eastin

I, too, have been fortunate to recieve a copy of the "Eastin Letters". It would take a full time job, plus a small fortune to copy for everyone who asks.
As for you, Lane, the only thing in those letters that would be of interest to you is a one sentence tidbit about Richard Eastin. It states that he owned one of the first birck homes in KY.
I'm sorry if you feel so strongly about Ed, but your anger is misplaced. He really doesn't merit your anger.
Audrey Hopper
The "Eastin Letters" are not definitely not a myth. The gentleman was kind enough to send me copies some time ago. He is a busy person and there is a large stack of letters which is costly to reproduce. They are correspondence from the late 1800s through early 1900s.
I am willing to pass on some copies but you would have to pay for copies and mailing, I am short on cash right now. I don't have a scanner.
Linda Osterdock
llo@wholenet.net
I believe the "Eastin Letters" are a myth. For some strange reason the person who claims to have them promises to send them but never does. He is always too busy, but promises anyway. Over the years I have seen his name mentioned by many people who asked for, but did not recieve the letters.

I am of the Phillip Eastin and Elizabeth Douglas line. If I can be of any help, let me knowl
