Searching for a Smith great-great uncle who lost family in the Milnnesota Indian Massacre of 1862-1863. He had brothers Nelson Gates Smith, born 1816, and Leonard (LL) Smith. They were born in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY - parents unknown. Leonard had sons Burt and William. Nelson had James and Charles who died in the Civil War; Franklin, Mary Augusta, Catherine, Leonard Gates, Nelson Barzillai, Steven and Harry Wayne. Believed to have been a dry goods merchant in St. Paul, around 1865.
