Tom
Be careful about the source that you quoted below. Sir Charles Lock Eastlake did marry Elizabeth Rigby, but she was 40 at the time and they had no children. So he has no descendants ... wishful thinking on behalf of an Eastlake I suspect as he was President of the Royal Society and very notable artist and art historian.
Elizabeth was originally an actress, but her connection to photography was a patron of early photographers rather than being a noted photographer herself.
Phil

I have info on her ancestors back to 1640! they were quite a large family in the 18-1900's so I've been in touch with 22 distant 'cousins' from around the world ~ at some point I want to set up an Eastlake web page when I get all their email addresses.
Hopefully you've had fun researching your tree, (check out my tree 'Eastlakefamily' to see if there are any common individuals?
BFN, Elizabeth (Aitchison-Eastlake)

Hi Jenny

Yes this is. They settled in Sleekburn and now their ancestors are living throughout this area - Ashington, Bedlington, Sleekburn.

I only followed George as he was the direct line. My Dad did go down to the SW to follow up roots - could be interesting to see how much overlap we have.

Ironically the mones have now all but closed so the drift goes on; now more dispersed as there are no new mining centres in UK.

Phil

Hi
Among my (prolific) Eastlake forebears I have just discovered that my great grandfather's Edwin's brother George Eastlake, b. 1827 Upparton, Devon moved from being a copper miner in Devon/Cornwall in 1861 and pops up in Northumberland in 1881 as a coal miner. His wife was Mary b 1828 and they had children Benjamin, John, Mary Ann, Elizabeth, Eliza, George, William and Jane. Is this your branch?
Jenny Bedwell

I'm sorry for the delay. Kristen is my daughter and thank you for your reply. Yes! We are related. My grandmother Ellen S. Eastlake, and my grandfather Gilbert Harris were married in Bristol in 1907. They emigrated to Canada shortly thereafter and had a daughter Ellen in Montreal. They came to the U.S. and another daughter Katherine (my mother) was born. They lived in Rhode Island for a number of years and then moved to Florida. My grandfather passed away in 1965 and my Grandmother about 1972. I hope you get this note and reply. It's been a while.

Zebedee W. Eastlake was my great grandfather. I have just begun researching my mother's family so I don't have much information but I will tell you what I know. Some of my information comes from the 1880 census where he is listed as Z.W. Estlick. In 1880, he was 28 years old, was married to Harriet Messarole who was 29 and had 3 children at the time. The children were Alfred who was 5, Joseph M. who was 3 and Marian who was 1. They later had at least 3 more children: Frank L. (my grandfather) born in 1883, Florence born in 1890 and Ethel born in 1895. It lists his occupation as farmer. They were living in Randolph Township. I hope this helps you. If you want more information, email me at bunnyr925@aol.com.

Marge, do you know where Adaline (Cornelia Adeline) died and is buried? I lose track of this family after 1880. Did they stay in Michigan or move elsewhere? Any further info appreciated.
Leslie

Thanks. I have been looking for her parents for years. The Samuel living in this household is a stepson to William Neal and his name is Samuel Pool. Liberty is also known as Bertram Neal. Samuel is my ggrandfather. But Cornelia Adeline has been my wall. Again, thanks.

Since your posting is over two years old, you may have found information by now. But just in case, here's what I have:
Your Cornelia Adeline Eastlick seems to be one and the same with the Adaline Easlick who married William Neal or Neil. Adaline is daughter of John Easlick and Margaret Hawkins. In 1880 she and William were living in Jackson, MI and had these five children at home:
Samuel, Mary, William, Cora Belle and Liberty. If you have more to add regarding this family, I would be most interested in receiving additional information. I research any and all Eastlicks, Easlicks and Eastlakes.
Thanks,
Leslie Lewis
Lewisparr@olympus.net

Dear Kristen,

I have just seen your message of August 2000. I think we must be cousins!!

My grandfather Stanley Eastlake was born in Bristol, and had a sister, Ellen Sophia, born 15th January 1889, who married Gilbert Ernest Harris in the Salem Chapel Bristol on 31st August 1907. (I have both certificates).

Ellen had a sister Kate, and their father also had sisters called Kate and Ellen.

Their father John Eastlake was born in Tavistock, Devon, and I can trace the family back to 1696 in the Tavistock area.

I hope this is of interest, and that you can confirm that my great-aunt is your great-grandmother!

I was born in Bristol and now live in Somerset.

Best wishes, Celia Eastlake.

ps Lorraine Eastlake is my niece.

My auntie is researching the family tree so I shall pass on your e-mail address to her, I hope you don't mind, and I am sure she will contact you if she feels we could originate from the same place!

How long have you been researching your Eastlake family tree? Celia has been doing it for 20 years or more and has gone a fair way back.

Cheers again Eastlaker.
Lorraine

Hello! While doing research last night on my husband's Keohane Surname I came across a reference to Stewart Eastlake in the 1920 Census Index for Detroit City, Wayne County, MI he was listed as living at 688 Porter Street in Detroit with Mary Keohane - The Soundex Index is K500 for the Keohane Name this card is in Volume 1, E.D. 350, Sheet 10, Line 16. It states Mary was his daughter, she was 33 years old, and born in Canada. The dates that appear in the citizenship Line are 1903 NA 1919 for Mary. Hope this may be helpful! Linda E.
I am having a hard time tracing my g Westlake greatgarnparents, who were in new Zealand & then California. There are cousins but haven't figured out who's who. However, my mother told me that Eastlake was a family name as well as Westlake; whether this was in NZ or England, don't know! possibly we had Eastlake cousins. If anyone notices these names connected, please let me know...Thanks.

Below is the test of a message I just posted.
===================
Hi. I live in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. My family can only trace back for sure to a William Eastlake, who was younger brother to the artist Sir Charles Loch Eastlake (Britannica). As to his origin, I spoke with a David Eastlake in England, who shared that common ancestor (also Lady Elizabeth Eastlake, a noted early photographer), and his family traces back to roots which are actually in Abergavenny, Gwent, Wales. I have also spoken with Eastlakes here in the States that trace back to ancestors in Scotland. Much wisdom asserts that Eastlake is an Anglicized celtic name. Here in the States, I have found a woman who is in contact with many Eastlakes, Eastlicks, and Eastlacks, who all apparently are really the same extended family. My father has 5 brothers and a sister, so there are lots of Eastlakes in my immediate family, living all over the place. Another Eastlake you might find actually documented is my great-great-grandfather, George Washington Eastlake, who was a Union (North) Cavalry officer in the American civil war. In fact I have his rifle and saber.

Welcome comments and if you are interested in the newsletter this Leslie (married to an Eastlick, I think) puts out, contact me and I'll find her email address.

Eastlake stuff
