Grace Barbara Shager Eastland of Rock Island passed away August 14, 2003, at Trinity West Hospital in Rock Island. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 17, at 1 p.m. in the parlor of the First Congregational Church, Moline. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. following visitation in the church sanctuary. It was Grace’s wish to be cremated. Wendt Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rock Island County Historical Society Library, Moline; Scott County Humane Society, Davenport; or First Congregational Church of Moline.
Grace Eastland was born March 27, 1919, in Rockford, Ill., and was the daughter and only child of Bernise and Pearl Shager. Grace Shager and Richard H. Eastland were married September 14, 1941, in the First Congregational Church, Moline. Grace graduated from Moline High School and Augustana College. She taught art at Franklin Junior High School in Rock Island for several years. Grace is survived by her husband, Dick; daughter, Suzan Eastland Rowley; son, John Eastland, and wife, Liane; daughter, Patti DeVore, and husband, Drake; son, Larry Eastland, and life partner, Mary Jackson; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
