Eastlick, Betty Lue
Betty Lue Eastlick, 84, of Laurel (Montana), passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Wednesday evening (January 9, 2008) at Billings Clinic. She had struggled with heart problems the last few months and total healing was not to be.
Betty was born March 26, 1923, in Kimball, Neb., to James Lue and Velma Pratt Estes. She was the fourth of eight children. At the early age of 2, her family moved to Montana and it was at this time that she suffered a bout of rheumatic fever, thus learning how to walk and talk for the second time.
In 1943, she met a handsome bachelor who stole her heart away, and on April 15, 1944, she married Glenn Eastlick and in May, she graduated from Joliet High School. To this union three children were born: Linda Lee, Clarence Lewis and Gloria Ann. Dad and Mom celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in April 1998 and in June, Dad passed away. She still mourned his passing and the separation, when reminiscing over the past months.
After loving and raising her children and when Dad was ready to retire in 1973, she began her second career in child care, which lasted for 11 years. Some 20 to 25 more little ones called her "Grandma."
She was a loving, kind and compassionate woman, who gave everything to her family and those she loved. Although small in stature, this little woman was not to be told what or how to do something. Her determination, true grit and spunk were what helped her through many obstacles in her life.
She resided at Spruce Grove Apartments - very independently - over the last years. It was here that she developed close friendships with her neighbors. These four little grey-haired ladies became almost inseparable, going everywhere together - "The Four Musketeers" - to church, out to eat, shopping or an occasional garage sale. Her passions were cooking, embroidery, sewing and quilting . . . upwards of two or three quilts for each of us kids, three quilts for each grandson and one for each great-grandchild.
Betty was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Glenn, and all of her brothers and sisters, Merle, Albert "Jack," Lula, Lucille, Lela, James and Glenda.
[NOTE - Betty's sister Lucille was married to Guerdon Eastlick who was Glenn Eastlick's younger brother]
Those who mourn her passing are Linda (Bill) Strauch, Clarence (Kayla) Eastlick and Gloria Haman; grandsons, Cary (Kathy) Haman, Lance (Lisa) Strauch, Chad (Mindi) Eastlick, Darren Strauch, Seth (fiancée Julie Drake) Eastlick and Steele (Jori) Eastlick; step-great-grandson, Jeremy Jenks; great grandchildren, Fallon and Mackenzie Strauch, Chance Eastlick and soon-to-be step-great-granddaughters, Kenzie and Marley Drake, Shaelynn Haman and Finley Grace Eastlick. Also a sister-in-law, Hazel Gillen of Lancaster, Wis., numerous nieces and nephews and three special friends from Spruce Grove, Helen Reidelbach, Rachelle Hofferber and Maxine Keele.
