Wow! As much as I would love to have a piece of history, it's just not possible. And I'm still not sure is Zaccheus was a direct ancestor. Does the document happen to have the name of his wife? Would love to see the photos! And I hope you are able to get a return on your purchase...sorry I'm not able to do that. Thanks so much!
Cindy

To0 large to scan - about 20 by 30 inches - poster size. Only names are that of Zaccheus Eatherton and his wife he gave this to in 1897. Brief history of the 183rd OVI and mention of the senior officers including my GGG Uncle, John James Geer. I paid $155.00 for it in Mansfiled Ohio 7 years ago - will take the same plus postage. Have photos if you wish to see.

Hello Cindy,

So i am running a DNA study of the Etherton/Eatherton surnames. The study is a "Y" chromosone type which means we test only MALE Ethertons. So if you are in contact with any MALE Eathertons from your family line and they would like to help with my DNA study then I would be happy to pay for the test. I would just need to know a name and an address...then i would arrange for a kit to be sent to them. They do the test which is very simple, normally involves taking a swab from your inner cheek..then pop the sample back in the self addressed envelope and send it back to the company performing the test. Wait a couple of weeks then you should get the results. With a bit of luck the results might indicate whether your Eatherton line is connected with any of the other Etherton lines I have already tested. Thats it. Let me know if you are interested.

Regards
Martin

Re: Susan Emily Eatherton

According to FreeBMD, the maiden name of Susans mother was Clark. Also from FreeBMD, there is a James William Eatherton marrying a Susan Clark in 1905 in West Ham....almost certainly these are the parents of your Susan. From FreeBMD i saw that there was also a Thomas Eatherton, born in 1920 - mothers maiden name Clark - in West Ham...again almost certainly Susans brother. From Genes Reunited i noticed an Anthony Eatherton who has Thomas in his line. He also has a James William Eatherton in his line..so from these deductions we can assume that Susans father was James William Eatherton, born in 1964 in Stepney.
James's father was a Daniel Eatherton, born in 1838 - also in Stepney. Daneil's father was a James Eatherton born in Whitacre, Essex in approx. 1808. Thats as far as i can go back with this line. I believe all Eathertons in UK are stemming from this one common ancestory. It could also be (but would require DNA proof) that there is a link between these Essex Eathertons and the Essex Ethertons ( note different spelling).

Hope this helps
Hi Christian,

My name is Martin Etherton. I am doing a "One name Study" on the Etherton/Eatherton surname. I am interested in trying to connect all the different Eatherton/Etherton groups into their common ancestoral groups. To do this I started a DNA project a few years ago. I have 6 Ethertons so far who have participated in the project. If you would also be interested in helping I would be pleased to hear from you. Its quite a simple / safe test and I would be prepared to foot the bill for the test .. approx. 100 US Dollars. Interested ?

I have a framed Certificate of Service that was presented to Jerimia Etherton by her husband Zaccheus Eatherton in 1897.

The certificate details Zaccheus service with Company G of the 183rd OVI in 1864 and 1865.

I bought this at the Mansfield Civil War show several years back as my GGGG Uncle, John James Geer was the Chaplain of that regiment and is listed on the Certificate.

I am selling some of my Civil War collection and would like this to go back to the Eatherton family. In excellent condition - measures 21 x 31 inches.

Martin mstewart4@woh.rr.com

Hi Rob,
I have just recently been looking at messages on Ancestry in reference to the Eatherton Family. I believe I am looking for the same family. Can you tell me if your Caleb Eatherton was born in Ohio about 1836, if so, then I'm sure its the same. My daughter and son would be a great grandchild X3. Caleb's son William would be our direct line.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards, Joan

William Arnold Eatherton was born April 2, 1922 and died January 30, 2008. On August 26, 1978 he married Vera Jean (Allan) Easley. He served in the Army in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was awarded two Bronze Stars. Arnold lived most of his life in Missouri. He lived in Moberly until 1989 when he moved to Valley Center, Kansas.

His parents were William & Maude Eatherton. He was buried will full military honors on February 2, 2008 in the Towanda, KS city cemetery. I have a few photos that I can scan and supply to anyone researching Arnold's family. I can also provide other information.

Arnold was my wife's father-in-law.
