Early Radio Personality on WERC, WLEU & WRIE Robert B. Eaton, 82, died Wednesday morning, June 3, 2009, at St. Vincent Health Center following a short illness. He was born in Erie, October 27, 1928, son of the late Homer and Ruth Ginader Eaton. He was a 1948 graduate of Academy High School and studied briefly at St. Olaf College and lived in Erie all of his life. He leaves no immediate family but a former ward, Nicholas Zipperi of Erie. He was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey J. Crawley in 1997. Bob was employed as host and announcer for WQLN radio for six years before retiring in 1995. He previously worked for WIRE radio from 1977 to 1989, WICU radio and TV from 1966 to 1976, WLEU radio from 1950 to 1965 and WERC radio where he started as an announcer in 1949. Known in music circles as an organist and singer, he was also co-founder of Erie’s Symphonic Choir. He prided himself as a “classical” disk jockey and had a substantial following. Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road is in charge of arrangements. There will be no public viewing and a private burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
