I have just published an Illustrated History 208 page book on my husband's family "The Ebel Connection" and have had an amazing response.
The book only documents the family here in Canada and I now would like to see if we can trace back to immigration and to Germany.
Wilhelm Henri Ludwig Ebel born 1822-1880 is listed as being born in Germany only. His wife Wilhelmina (1823-1917) told the family that her husband came with his father who came to NY with his six sons. They were tradespeople. Two were said to move on to Canada. Wilhelm Henri Ludwig married Wilhelmina von Krebs( 1823-1917) in 1850 in Montreal, Canada
We have found a Joachim Ebel who also came to Canada and moved to the same area in Ontario. We do not know if he was one of the brothers. His family is also looking.
Thanks for any help
Wilma
Frederick William Ebel married Mary Elisabeth Hans 02/19/1880

Hi!
I am looking for information on my family line. My great-great grand father was Frederick William (possibly Wilheim?)Ebel who was born April 06,1845 in Brandenburg, Preussen (now Germany). He somehow made it the US around 1869 and lived in Elgin, Illinois about nine years. He then moved to Kansas in 1878 and married Mary Elisabeth (or Elizabeth) Hans born July 13, 1848 Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio. I believe they married on Feb 19, 1880 in Wamego, (either Pottawatomie or Wabaunsee) Kansas. They had 5 children, one male who died same year he was born in 1884. As far as I can tell all children were born in Wamego or McFarland, Wabaunsee, Kansas. They are William C Ebel born July 06,1882, Martin Herman Ebel born November 6,1885, August Ebel born about 1887 and the only girl Martha born about 1892.
Any information you have that could fill in the blanks would be appreciated. I know what happened to Martin Ebel, he is my great grandfather. But I have no idea what happened to his brothers or his sister. Also any information about Frederick or Mary Elisabeth's family would be appreciated I have no information on who their parents were or any siblings.
Thank you!
Lisa Crance

David,

You might contact my brother, who has done an extensive search for the Ebels from south Illinois, of which we descended. There is a funny story about an Adolf Ebel that my brother had written about in a book he published on our Ebel line. Apparently an Adolf Ebel, who was the brother of one of my paternal line, disappeared the day before his brother married. No one knows why. My brother works at Boston college. You can find his email address on the college's website, his first name is John.

Robert.

Adolf Ebel from Belleville, Illinois

I need a place to begin... My grandfather was Adolf Ebel from Belleville, Illinois. His family came from Germany and several family members moved to Belleville.

Adolph married Sophia Webber and they moved to Roseville, Michigan (suburb of Detroit) so Adolph could work in the Ford factory where he worked till he retired. They had 2 children, Charles Arthur Ebel (my father) and Emma Hilda Ebel (never married). Adolph died in 1953 when I was a year old. Because of working in the Ford factory during WW 2 he recieved quite a bit of persecution for being a German named Adolf. in response he went home and burned the family records and announced to my grandmother that his children and grandchildren are Americans and that is all!

Now, we, his grandchildren want to find where we fit in our family history.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

David Ebel

Hi,

found a lot of queries about Ebel from Germany. So hope this will help.
I do have a book about Graben a small town in Baden (Germany). It includes a list of emmigrants. The following could be interesting:

Albert Ebel emm. 1880 to Springfield, MO
Heinrich Ebel emm. 1868 to Rulo, NE
Ludwig Ebel emm. 1868 to Justine, CA
Ludwig Ebel emm. 1873 to St. Lonis, MO
Wilhelm Ebel emm. 1880 to Barada, NE

Heinrich and Ludwig were brothers and came to America on the ship Saxonia. They went on bord in Hamburg 4th may and arrived in NY 21st may 1868. (My ancestor came with the same agent and the same ship, as they also came from Graben).
Angelika

PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

Charline (Chuck) Ebel
Posted: Thursday, Nov 13, 2008 - 03:05:22 pm PST
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON.

Charline (Chuck) Ebel was ushered into the arms of her Lord on Nov. 7, one day before her 88th birthday.

Charline was born Nov. 8, 1920, to parents Charlie and Bertha Snow.

The family moved to Colorado a short time later and Charline spent her childhood and school years in Walden, Colo.

In 1938, she met and married R. L. Sander. In Cheyenne, Wyo., they were later divorced.

In 1953 she married Leo Ebel, who was the love of her life. They enjoyed fishing, camping and playing golf.

Charline was well known in Moses Lake. She came here in 1946. She worked in a number of businesses here. She was probably best known for the years at the beverage fountain at Chico’s, where she made a host of friends.

Due to poor health, she retired.
Hi Gena,

well Ludwig and Heinrich were BROTHERS, as I wrote. If you would like to have copies of the original documents, you should do your research in Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe - they have all the old papers from Graben. Take a look at Generallandesarchiv@glaka.lad-bw.de You can even send a request by email.

Good luck,
Angelika

Thank you for the information. The Heinrich you listed seems to be the Henry I am looking for. Henry would have been 24 back in 1868. I wonder if Heinrich and Ludwig were related since they came at the same time and are so close in age. I will keep digging. Thanks. Gena

HI,

I did a lot of research in GRABEN (that is how you spell the town) in Baden, Germany. My ancestor came with a big group of emmigrants and within this group was Heinrich Ebel - 24 years and his brother Ludwig Ebel - 22 years. They came on the ship SAXONIA from Hamburg to NY. They arrived on 21st may 1868. This list is on rootsweb. Ludwig (which would have become "Luis" or "Lois") went to Justine, CA while his brother Heinrich (which became "Henry") weht to Rulo, NE.
I do have a book of Graben with a list of emmigrants.
Albert Ebel emm. 1880 to Springfield, MO
Heinrich and Ludwig .. as mentioned
another Ludwig emm. in 1873 to St. Lonis, MO
and Wilhelm Ebel emm. 1880 to Barada, NE

The name John comes from Johann and this was often the first name before the second firstname. As there were so many Johanns, they often went by their second first name.

Hope this helps, Angelika

Since posting my first message in November 2000, I have found out that the family I am looking for comes from a small village called ??Dietershaven (or a name sounding like that), not far from Frankfurt. Grandfather was Karl Ebel and he did change his name to Charles Abel when he stayed in England. I believe he had maybe 3 brothers and an uncle that was an officer in the Austrian ?? army. Any information that may help to unravel the "tree" would be very much appreciated.

Jenny Mitchell

My Grandfather, Fred Ebel, a German from Russia, came to the midwest around 1900-1905. He had a brother, Henry, who I never met. Henry may have lived in KS, MO and/or NB...hard telling where else. Their father, also Fred Ebel, came over too. He lived in Mountain Home, MO and was in Florida for a short time. When they lived in Russia, from about 1750-1900, they stayed near Volgagrad, and came here from a small village called Drispietz, later renamed Dobrinka about 50 years ago. Fred Ebel, my Grandfather, was born about 1880, died about 1965, and is buried in Conroe, TX. Don't know if this will help or not. Dean Ebel

Linda,
Hi! Hey it sounds like you think there is a connection between our Ebels. If so, could you please email me more information, I have absolutely no connections on my Grandfather Ebel (Abel)side, and would love any blanks filled in. I know nothing about Fredrick, although I have seen that name so often. Are you in the US or Canada? Who is your husbands relatives?
Personal email is ok too! (smile)
Hoping to fill in a missing blank or two!
Robin
