I think your Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Ebeling was the twin brother of my ancestress Justine Margarethe Engel Ebeling, since she was born in Nienburg on the very same day, March 17, 1803. Her mother was Justine Bohrel.

Hello Judy;
I don't know if we have any ancestors in common but here is a short list of the grandfathers I have been able to find. Granded I don't have my family group sheets at my fingertips to list siblings but here goes.
Ernst Heinrich Wilhelm Ebeling born 1880 in Nienbury married a Frieda Anna Burghardt in Illinois,USA.
His father: Ernest Conrad Ebeling born 1847 in Nienburg married a Sophie Louise Meier(Myer/Meyer). This family immigrated to USA.
His father: Johann Friedrick Wilhelm Ebeling born 1803 in Hanover;married a Sophie Louise Carolina Bauer.
This family had 2 sets of twins.
His father:Fredrich Ebeling born 1761 in Nienburg; married a Justine Dorothee Rebecca Borles.
Hunt as I may I have not been able to find many siblings for the above marriages or gotten any further back. Also having problems 'filling in' any family history.
Can we be of any help to each other???
Thanks for responding..........Barb

Hi Barb,

I saw your Ebeling post. I am descended from a Diederich Ebeling who was born in Hanover in 1817, and came to England in the 1830s. He married a Mary Ann Lennard in 1844. Do you know anything about his German background and does he fit in with your family tree at all?

Thanks, Judy (Cambridge, UK)

It has been some years since our last correspondence, however, I now have an accurate translation of the birth document. Anna Margarethe Ebeling had parents George Ebeling, farmer, and Dorothea Elisabeth Polz. The father had a sister, also name Anna Margarethe, who was named as god-parent. I am contacting you now with this information as I have been unable to find family connections to these people. Sending this along in case it may be familiar to the Ebeling families that you know of.

Thanks so much for the info. you sent in the past, it was helpful in locating Renda. In fact, I will be visiting there in a couple of months!

Sincerely,

Brenda Weedman

Peggy, I don't believe we have any Ebelings in common. Unless it's further back in Germany.
I checked my list of first names connected to my Ebeling line and didn't run across a Dietrich. I know there are some Arends who married into the family but no Towles. And I haven't found a Wisconsin connection as of yet.
Here are some surnames connected to my Ebelings: Burghardt, Pohlmann, Schloem, Meyer(Meier), Ehler, Borles and Dunsing.
Some first names in the Ebeling line: Fredrick, Wilhelm,Sophie,Dorothree, Ernst, Ernestina,Louisa, Johann and Justine Rebecca.
Do any of these names ring a bell ??
Thanks for responding...............Barb

Hello,
Looking for further information on the Ebeling line. This line includes Ernest Conrad Ebeling and brother Conrad August Ebeling who immigrated to USA in 1880s settling in the Kankakee, Illinois area. Have these two brothers back to Friedrich Ebeling born 1761 in Nienburg, Hanover Germany. This Friedrich Ebeling married a Justine Dorothee Rebecca Borles between 1785-1800. Have quite a bit of info on family after they came to USA. Any help with extended family( in Germany or USA) would be welcomed.
Regards, Barb

George Philip and Anna Portman Ebeling are my ancestors. They came to the US in 1848 or 49 although I have not been able to find them on a ships manifest. George Philip was born in Meins Germany (near Frankfort). They had 3 children: Philipine, George (my ancestory) b. 1852 and Robbert b. 1854. Anna died in childbirth and George P. married Martha Nickoline who bore him 4 children. 2 died in infancy. The other two were Rose and Agusta. The family are all burried at Rosehill Cemetary, Chicago. You can find George and Marth in the 1880 census and probably some others. I am trying to find out exactly when they came to the US but I have not been successful. If you know anything, please let me know. I will be happy to share all I have on the family.

I'm looking for information on Diedrich Henry Ebeling, my great great grandfather. Born: 15 Jan 1877, Germany/ Died: 11 Mar 1943, Cook County, Illinois, USA. I would like to learn his parent's names for my ancestry tree. Diedrich's wives were Emma F. Wendt and Frieda Waldau. He had two children with Emma: Elmer Herman Otto and Richard John(?). In the 1920 census after Emma died and Frieda married Diedrich, there is a listing of a Lesile Wendt living as a "stepson" in the Ebeling household. I believe Lesile was the son of one of Emma's brothers, Charles or William.
Hi,

In doing my Grandmothers family tree I found a Sophie Ebeling, GG Grandmother to my Step Grandma. I also found her under the name Conradien Sophie Ebeling. She was born in Germany 03 Nov 1817 and died 21 Feb 1872 and married Johann H Leuders. They had at least 1 daughter Amanda (name changed in America to Leaders). There is no indication that Sophie ever came to America. Could this be your Sophie??

Karyn

We are researching the Johann Ernst Held family line and have found roots in Schornsheim, Undenheim, Köngernheim in Hessen. Would appreciate any help in persuing our ancestry in the area. Other Helds in the same generation are Andreas Held born 1798, Philipp Carl Held, born 1796, and Johann Philipp Held, born in 1794. Many of these people emigrated to the USA to Wisconsin, settling in Washington County.

This is an update to my earlier message. It appears that Emma and Freda may be two different women. Emma Wendt Eberling apparently passed away in 1915 and Diedrich married a Freda Wendt, who was a widow. Her maiden name may have been "Waldau" or something like that.

Nancy

I have been searching for information on Condradein Ebeling married Luders. I did find that they came to US departing from Breman arriving in Baltimore, Oct 1869. She used the name Dinah. Dinah married Johann Luders abt 1845. Condradein (Dinah) had a daughter named Amanda. At that time the Luders name became Leaders. Conradein is my GGGG Grandmother. I'm working on a memory book for my Grandma who will be turning 100 in March and I would love to have every person in Grandma's life included in the Family Tree Portion of this "Gift of Family" that I'm putting together for her.

I truly Appreciate any info anyone may have.
Karyn

Heinrich Friedrick Konrad Ebeling b:10/20/1830, Pegesdorf, Hannover, Germany

I am looking for more information on my gg grandfather.

I have a copy of his church marriage record to Friedericka Wilhelmine Caroline Lindemann on Feb 19, 1856 at First St Paul Lutheran Church, Chicago IL. That record stated he was born in Pegesdoft, Hannover on Oct 20, 1830.

I believe he came to the US on July 15 1850 on Helene into NY Harbor. He and Caroline had 6 children between 1856 and 1868.

He was not listed with the family on the 1870 census – I initially suspected he had died. I confirmed this with a visit to Wunders Cemetery in Chicago - they have a record of his death and burial on Oct 11 1868, although there is no headstone to verify it. His wife Caroline died just 3 years later. Her grave is also located in Wunders Cemetery, and it does have a headstone. She is buried with one of their children and next to a Carl Lindemann which I suspect to be her brother. She was born on Mar 12, 1834 in Lodingsen, Hannover, Germany. I do not know when she immigrated.

I have information on their children, but do not know for sure who raised them after their parents death, but they stayed in the Cook County and DuPage County area of Illinois.. Their oldest son Heinrich was my g grandfather.

I am interested in how to trace either Conrad or Caroline to their ancestors in Germany. Any help would be appreciated.
My Ebeling's (Ebling) are from a small town of Biebelnheim and Schornsheim in Hessen Germany. My ancestor that came to the USA is a Karl Ebling and they settled in Detroit Michigan in 1856. His father and brothers came over to the USA a little later. I do have one Georg Philipp Ebeling but he was born 1789. Good luck on your search and if you tie into this area, let me know.

Alan

No, not yet--sorry. My in-laws saw an Ebeling Statue along the River in Munich. I believe it was a tribute to a poet of the 17th century--Christopher Ebeling.

Rainer,

Yes I got the email with the attachments. I wrote back a quick email to the address that you sent the email from. I'm sorry if you have not gotten it yet. I really appreciate the help with this. The only one I had a problem reading was Volpert and Anna Ursula marriage record. Was her maiden name Ebling? Thanks again for the help.

Alan
