Hello... I was looking on this board today and saw your post. My hustband is a direct descendant of the family your are looking for. His Great Great grandfather was Karl F. (Carl) Eberhardt. Karl's son Wilhelm (William) is Terry's Great Grandfather and Wilhelm's son Frank Otto is Terry's Grandfather. I have more information on the family but am really interested to see if you might have information about Karl and Sophia Eberhardt and their Germany heritage. We know when they came to the US and when their children came,
(And we know the names of all their children) but we do not know anything of Karl or Sophia's family in Germany. We would love to know their parents names, their brothers and sisters names, etc. You can email me anytime at cbeberhardt@charter.net

Hello,

just now I read this post and I was wondering if, in some way, we coud have some connections. I do have a Katharina Eberhardt, born 1840 in Brabander (Russia), as I do also have many siblings of her, who could be one of her parents. I know that siblings of my great grandfather went to live to Nebraska, others to Argentina and others remained in Russia. I am missing the connections to the USA, but I heard from argentinian relatives that there was someone in Nebraska. I would be greatful for every information.

I just found out my great grandmothers name from a microfilm I viewed at FHL. It says she was from Bukin. The name I am researching is Verner. Eva Verner born around 1860 is my great grandmother. Her father was Joseph or Josephus Verner. He married Eva Thon but she may have been from Tovarisevo. Other names that I'm not sure where they may have been from originally. The surname Belli and Appolonia Rielz or Riez. Hard to read. I realize this is an old post but I am hoping you may be able to help. You can email me directly MLR.squires@comcast.net. Thanks so much, Laura

Were your relatives from Deleware Ohio?

My Great Grandfather Hedrick (Susie's married Milton Hedrick)walked from PA to Nebraska because he didn't have much money.

Do you know who Annie married? She may have been the Cline. I'll have to send you what I have in the tree, but so far haven't got that side of the family very organized. I have booth sides of my family and my husbands fairly well done, some going back to the 1600s.

Marge

It sounds as though we are related on the Hauck side of my family. My married name is Wynn. I may have posted the picture of Susan Hauck. I did have an Aunt Annie. You can contact me via email. ( patwynn@bellsouth.net)I don't remember if I posted the picture or not. I have many photos of the Hauck family including a photo album that was my grandmothers. Folks knew her as East, Esther, but she was named Easter Ellen because she was born on Easter morning in 1881.

I can't help you with the Wynn family, but I saw you may have posted a picture of Susan Hauck and three others. I don't think I posted the picture since I don't know how, but I have the exact same picture so maybe I did.

My Grandmother and Grandfather came from Ohio to Nebraska in the late 1800s. In 1939 we went to Deleware Ohio to a family reunion on a farm. I have a picture of the large group, but of course no names.

My husband and I ended up in Madison, GA 20 some years ago after living several places around the country and now live in Salem, SC

I met a few of my Dad's relatives, but there are quite a few holes in the family since I didn't write things down when my Dad was alive. I remember the last names of Benedict and Cline. The Benedicts lived near Cleveland and Mrs. benedict was my dad's aunt (Susan's or Susanna's sister)She had a sister Annie.

Hi Lisa,
The Jacobsen family tree downloaded the pictures from my family tree. I am the one who first uploaded the pictures to Ancestry.com. I have the originals. Quite a few people have downloaded the pictures to their trees. That is why I did it so people could see their relatives.

Find a grave is a wonderful place, I have created some memorials and I also manage ones that others originally created, had them transferred to me. Have you gone to the Calvary Catholic Cemetery page and looked up Walsers and Eberharts? I have visited the cemetery back in the 1980's before I found the link between my grandfather, Edward James Walser and John Ferdinand Walser. I wrote down all their names and dates because I have a picture of Fred and his family so I knew there was a link but didn't know what it was. A lady did some looking up on Ancestry and found the ship list with Fred's name and Bertha's name and Elizabeth Eberhart's name. I did some reading and put it together. I had been looking for the link for about 38 years. My ggrandfather John Baptist Walser was an illagitimate baby and it was only last October that I found the man that his mother married and their children and beyond. It was like Christmas!!!!!

Look at the web page http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/3520432/family?fpid=-10505596.... It shows my family tree. I am Elizabeth Evans and then find the 2nd generation ~ Edward F. Walser and follow it back and you will find Walsers, Eberharts, etc.

Please write back to me at my email address: apockalipse2@yahoo.com. It is a little more private unless you don't want me to have your email address.

Thanks,
Libby

Hi Libby~
How exciting!I am having so much fun with this whole family tree thing haha!Right after I answered your old post, I found a tree with pictures of...are you ready? John Baptist Walser & Bertha Marie Eberhart! If you haven't already found it, it's under the Jacobsen family tree & there are pictures of your relatives too! I even found a passenger list with Joseph & Mary Eberhart & Bertha (listed as their grandchild). The only photos I have are ones I have found on ancestry.com. I'm putting together a scrap book as a surprise for my father-in-law for Father's day. I'm hoping once he knows, I'll be able to find out more.
My husband & I are planning a trip in the next month to Lebanon MO. to visit the cemetery where several of his relatives are burried. Have you checked out the website, findagrave.com? I have found several ancestores there.
Take Care~
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for answering my post. We are family! My grandfather is Edward James Walser, his father is John Baptist Walser, his mother is Johanna Walser brother to
John Ferdinand Walser born 5 Sept 1843. I got a film from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was in German and I have a friend who is German so she translated it for me and got a lot of info on that Walser line. I also have photos of Mollie and her brothers and sister when they were young. I would gladly share info with you if you would share with me what you have. If interested please email me at: apockalipse2@yahoo.com.

Libby

Hi, my name is Lisa Vickers & I have been tracing my husbands family tree. My father-in-law is Joseph Vickers & his grandmother on his mothers side is Mary Amelia "Mollie" Walser. Mollie's parents are Fred J.(John Ferdinand)Walser & Emma Louise Eberhart. There has got to be a connection to your grandfather. I am actually working on the Eberhart/Walser side of the family also. This isn't much information but I hope it helps you in some way. Good Luck!

Try looking for the family name in or around St. Mary's KS. My great grandmother's maiden name is Eberhardt but I do not know what the first name was. There were Eberhardts living in St. Marys, Pottawatomie, KS. According to a census (sorry, I cannot remember which one) they lived next door to my grandmother's brother Michael Martel & his family. Most of the people in St. Marys were Volga River Germans (Germans whose families went to Russia under Catherine the great to farm in the Volga River valley.
http://cvgs.cu-portland.edu/index.cfm
The Germans who settled there were primarily Catholic from Russia. This could be the area to look.

Good luck & best wishes!
Glasco Sun, Cloud County, Kansas, Nov. 19, 1914, page 1:
The Late John Eberhardt
W.W. Palmer, an intimate friend of the deceased, hands us the following brief but interesting memoir of the life of the late John Eberhardt, sr.:
The ritual service of the G.A.R. was held at the grave by the few remaining comrades as a last tribute of respect to their departed comrade. The following obituary was read: John Eberhardt was born in Gundersblum, Hessen Damstadt, Germany, Oct. 1, 1834. He came to the United States with his father's family in 1834, first settling in Wisconsin. Some years later John moved to Harvard, Illinois, at which place he lived when the Civil war began. His loyalty and patriotism to his adopted country induced him to offer his services for the preservation of the union of the states. He enlisted Sept. 7, 1861, in Co. 11, eighth Illinois cavalry. At St. Charles, Illinois, the regiment was assigned for duty to the army of the Potomac. He participated in the battles of Williamsburg, second Bull Run, Manassa, South Mountain and other engagements. He was mustered out of the service at Washington, D.C., Sept. 18, 1864, by reason of expiration of term of enlistment, having served three years. He moved to Kansas in 1873 and settled on the present Eberhardt homestead, where he has fought the battles incident to pioneer life. His many good qualities as a citizen and neighbor will be remembered with esteem and are worthy of emulation.
While Mr. Eberhardt had not enjoyed full strength for sometime he had been bedfast for only one week prior to his death.
Into that span of more than eight decades was placed a life of great activity. The young boy was only 13 years old when he moved with his parents to Salina where they lived on a farm. His musical interests were manifested by participation in the various musical activities of the college. He was one of the earliest members of the Bethany Band. He also played in the Bethany Symphony Orchestra and for many decades he held continuous membership in the Bethany College Oratorio Society. He was a member of many responsible committees that were entrusted with various civic duties and he served as treasurer of the Board of Education for many years.
Mr. Eberhardt was a cordial and pleasant and and a younger generation as well as his associates of other years remember his pleasant and gentlemanly manner. When his health failed him, he still maintained many of his finest characteristics. Under the tender and gracious care of Mrs. Hagstrand he passed his last days in the community which he loved so much and in which he had devoted practically his entire life.
Mr. Eberhardt is survived most intimately by one son, John William, who has recently received an honorable discharge from the United States Army, and by one brother, William Eberhardt, West Bend, Wisconsin. Three children have preceded him in death. Many other relatives and friends hold him in kindly remembrance.
Another familiar figure on Lindsborg streets has answered the summons of our Blessed Lord as we are reminded again of His "house of many mansions" which are waiting for those who believe in Him. --- Contributed.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 8, at the Danielson Funeral Home at 3:00 o'clock in the classroom with the Rev. James Claypool and Dr. Emory Lindquist in charge. Interment was at the Elmwood Cemetery.
Casket bearers were: Dr. H.G. Johnson, Hjaimar Wettersrom, Melvin Anderson, Oscar Berglund, Leonard Runbeck, Erick Jernberg.
obit for Christopher Eberhardt, born 1841 Germany, died 1922 Kansas

Salina Evening Journal, Dec. 26, 1922, page 1:
Christopher Eberhardt, a pioneer citizen of this community, died this morning at 2:40 o'clock at the family home, 121 North Eighth street. The deceased had been in failing health for a number of years. An operation for cataracts of the eyes, performed in Wichita about the middle of October, while successful in restoring his sight, was a severe shock to an enfeebled condition of health. He was brought to his home in Salina from Wichita in an ambulance five weeks ago. The end was not unexpected.
The funeral services will be held at the First Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The body will lie in state at the family home on Eighth street from 10 to 12 o'clock Thursday morning.
Christopher Eberhardt was born January 25, 1841, in Guntirsblum, Hessen Darmstadt, Germany. He came to this country with his parents when seven years of age, and settled in Wisconsin. He served throughout the Civil War as a member of the Twelfth Wisconsin Infantry. At the close of the was in 1865 he married Anna Catherine Lampert, and with his wife went to Leavenworth, Kan., from which place, two years later, they moved to Salina, arriving here in August, 1867. A continuous residence here of fifty-five and a half years distinguishes this citizen of Salina. Ten children were born, eight of whom survive. Mrs. Eberhardt passed away ten years ago, in 1912. The surviving children are: Miss Catherine, John J., Charles C., Henry H., Fred F., Frank L., Mrs. Edna Eberhardt Litowich and Mrs. Vera Eberhardt Hiller, all of whom make Salina their home, except Charles C. Eberhardt, who spends most of his time abroad in the United States Consular Service.
Rode Here On Horseback
With the passing of Christopher Eberhardt, ends a long and influential life. He is one of the last of the sturdy pioneers who laid the foundation for a prosperous community, through the hardships of frontier life. Not only was he identified with the beginnings of his home town, Salina, but he was also a member of the original townsite company of McPherson, and helped to start a number of smaller towns in this vicinity. When he made his preliminary trip to Salina, leaving his little family in Leavenworth, he rode here from Abilene on horseback, so little had transportation progress been made. He was influential in securing eastern capital for railroad facilities here, and made a number of trips east with this object in view. In the second year of his residence, he was foremost in organizing the defense of the settlers against the famous Indian raid of that year. In addition to the demands of his large private business interests, he was a leader in all activities for community betterment and held positions of trust in many of Salina's leading institutions.
Mr. Eberhardt was a life-long active member of the First Methodist church. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Kansas Wesleyan University from its founding until three years ago, when, upon his resignation, he was made member emeritus; he was influential in establishing the old Normal; he lent his financial and moral support to every worthy cause.
Into Lumber Business
The lumber business which he established upon his arrival here, and which has now developed into the Eberhardt Construction company, under the management of his son, Frank L. Eberhardt, was one of the best known of the pioneer business concerns. Lumber was sent by wagon train to many parts of the state. The company did a regular business with Wichita when that place was in its infancy. At the opening of Oklahoma lumber was sold in Guthrie by the board from a box car, and there are many other instances of the enterprising spirit of the man who directed the company's business. Until his recent illness, which almost entirely incapacitated him Mr. Eberhardt went every day to his office and performed some routine work.
The Eberhardt home has been known for many years for its genuine hospitality. The life of Christopher Eberhardt contributed its full share to the best of family and community life.
