Carol,
I just found your post today. My name is Matthew Aebi, I also have Gottfreid Aebi as my GGfather. His son, Homer, was born in 1904 and died in 1987. Homer was married to Madge Wehner in, I believe 1924 or so. If y ou would like lineage on my family from Homer down, please let me know.

Matt

mattaebi@gmail.com

"The Wenger Book" - Samuel S. Wenger and "Emigrants, Refugees and Prisoners" Vol.2 - Richard Warren Davis, 1997 as well as many other Eby publications give Eby genealogy.
OMII.org and the Wenger Family have online histories.
Some authors give Andreas as father of Theodorus (Durst). His first wife was Barbara Dysli and second wife (mother of the ch. born after 1700) unknown. His son, Christian Eby, The Elder, was born in 1698, perhaps later. I believe he died in 1786 rather than 1756 - as given in the above publications. He acted as executor for a relative in 1785 and 1786. His wife was Elizabeth Mayer (Majer, Meyer, Myer). Both the Ebys and Mayers were prominent ministers for many generations. Son Christian Eby (The Younger) was a Bishop.

Christian (The Elder) probably did die in 1756. The Christian Balmer will that appointed Christian Eby as executor may not have been translated correctly. If it says "Der AElteste" rather than "Der AEltere" or "Der Altere", it could mean "The Bishop", who was his son Christian Eby II. The wives of Theodorus (mother of Christian) are also unclear.

Carol,
The information you shared is helpful. A number of the names I did not have in my family files. I did have Florence and Esther Aebi (children of Charles Frank Aebi and Elizabeth Brunie). The information I got is the Florence's middle name was Irene, not May.
Also, some of the Brunie's of Alliance shared with me that Pearl Aebi Schenk, wife of Edward Schenk was actually Margaret Pearl Aebi.
I do know that there are at least 21 Aebi's buried in the Alliance City Cemetery. I have been trying to locate my notes on that as their graves are directly across the road from those of my grandparents (Emil Schenk & Rosa Brunie Schenk) and several other of my relatives. I remember seeing them and making a note of the layout of the graves and the section number of the cemetery.
Look forward to hearing from you.

What a while it has been since I've done anything with my geneology research.

I know that I have a Brunie family reunion photo in which cousin William Aebi wrote about 25-30 names as to who was in the photo. I know there were a number of small children and certainly you may very well be one of them.

If I can find the time to get to it (I'm beginning an MBA program 8/25/03) I will try to pull it out and see the names that are listed. I know that my grandmother, Rose Brunie Schenk, Aunt Bertha Schenk, ggmother Schenk, several Aebi's and Gfellers are in the photo(I haven't pinpointe the Gfeller connection although I think it may be through marriage with an Aebi).

I am attaching photo that probably was taken during a Brunie reunion at Silver Lake. It is of William, John, Fred, Herman, Albert, and Edward Brunie (sons of John & Magdalena Blum Brunie).

Look forward to trying to find, share and receive additional information.

AEBI FAMILY HISTORY

I hardly know where to start. I have an envelope of "stuff" I've collected through the years. I must warn you that I'm not experienced in using message boards, etc. I begin with the Aebi connection as you requested. My ggfather was Godfrey Aebi, b.1864, d.1921. My ggmother was Mary Umport Aebi, b.1861 in Berne, Switzerland, d. 1930. It's my understanding they are both buried at Alliance Cemetery, as are a lot of my relatives. They were married in 1881 and came to U.S. soon after. I have a note that states Mary had one sister & two brothers in Switzerland, 14 gchildren & 7 children at the time of her death. Three children died in infancy. (I don't remember where I found this info). Godfrey & Mary's children were:
1. Pearl Aebi Schenk, married to Edward, sons: Albert E. and Clarence A. She died 2/29/1964.
2. Alice Schmucker, married to Amos.
3. Edith Nile, married to Everett Earl Nile. She was b.1/18/1900, d.12/14/1975. Everett was b.8/29/1887, d.10/19/1974
4. Laura Bretzer
5. Charles Frank Aebi (my gfather), married Elizabeth Brunie on 10/1/1910. He was b.9/16/1886, d.12/25/1968. Gmother was b.1/23/89, d.5/17/66. They had 3 children, Charles Ray Aebi (my father), Esther May Aebi Burky, and Florence May who died at 4 mos. old.
6. John Aebi
7. Homer Aebi, b.4/17/1894, d.5/?/1969
As you can see, I don't have info on all of them, but it's a start.
You mentioned reunions - I can remember as a small child going to reunions where there were lots of people. If those were Brunie reunions, I may be in a photo. I have somewhere a photo of one of the reunions -- I looked about 3 or 4. Let me know what else you may need re: the Aebi's -- I may have something.
Carol

My family tree program crashed with my hard drive and I have yet to restore it.
I know we are related but am not positive of our connection. My mother was Rosa Bruni(e) who married Emile Arnold Schenk in Alliance, Oh. They are buried in the Alliance City Cemetery as is Magdalena (Roth) Brunie and her husband John.
I will look up the rest and be in touch. There is a Charles Aebi who married Elizabeth Bruni that I have a little information about.
Tom Schenk

Great to hear from you. You are correct in that my grandmother, Rosa Brunie Schenk was born in 1864 and died in 1947.
I have met a few Brunie decendents in the Alliance, Ohio area and would love to share further with you. I also have some photos. One is a Brunie reunion and I believe that Elizabeth Aebi is in it. There are 50+ people in the photo and William Brunie took the time to identify some of them for me.

I'd be glad to share with you what I have, i.e. tombstone photos, family photo, information, etc.

Drop me an email (tschenk948@aol.com)and fill me in or your family as I really have little on the Aebi connection.

Look forward to hearing from you.
Tom
Hi "Cousin",
Glad to see you have your program reinstalled. I'm not experienced at posting msgs, so this may be a duplicate. Yes, my mothers name was Dorothy Montrose Coleman Aebi. She died April 2001. I have no info on her family other than her mothers name was Annie Ward Coleman and she died when my mother was 20 mos. old. Elizabeth Mary Brunie Aebi was my grandmother and of course Magdalen Blum Brunie was my great grandmother. I felt sure that there was a connection as my grandmother had given my Dad a written list of the children of John Fred Brunie and his daughter Rosa Brunie Schenk was shown b.1864 & d. 1947. Hope to hear from you soon. Carol

Just for Ebie's information: I have started to post info for Ebies that I have on Findagrave.com. Most of them so far are those buried at the East Nimishillen Church of The Brethren near Marlboro, Ohio. There are some waiting to be posted for Union Cemetery in Louisville, Ohio. If anyone has any photos of any of these people and could email them to me, I'd be glad to post them on the Findagrave site as well as have them for my own records. It's fairly easy top post them on the site, so if you have any that aren't there yet, please go ahead and post them. It's another good way to share information.

I have two queries: Two of John Ebie Margaret Hossler's children were Daniel F. and Reuben. Men with these two names are recorded as having bought 160 acres in Ward County, ND, on August 23, 1904, which would have made Daniel about 65 and Reuben 40. The same two names appear on the Ohio Census in 1910. Does anyone know if they are the same two men? And anything about the story?
The other question is for a connection between an Edwin O. Ebie. ca 1880, who married Alma Grubb, ca 1880. They had two chcildren, Dorothy Marie, b 26 Jan 1906, and Archibald Hugh Dysle, b 6 Apr 1901. Anyone know where they fit in the Ebie line?

I haven't checked messages for some time - since I rarely ever saw any inquiry about an Ebie. It was a pleasant surprise to see yours which has probably been answered by now. Anyway, I was born and raised in Louisville and also go back to Peter Ebie. A year or two ago I was back and took photos of all the gravestones I could located in the cemetery at Marlboro. I didn't know where the family home was and would love to have a picture of it if you could email me one. I have the full Ebie genealogy which I got some years ago from Richard Eby in Lancaster. If you are still in need of information I would be glad to share it with you. My grandfather was George Ebie; my father was William. Hope to hear from you.

Until today I had no other information about them. I would dearly love to find out any thing I can about them and their family. I have always been interested to find out about the history of my home.
