I have papers and photographs pertaining to the Eble family. Paul W Eble was married to Bertha Antoinette Lemberg. Their daughter, kathryn Jewel Eble, had no children, so at the age of 95, when her husband died, he had given most of the family history, etc., to my daughter, named kathryn after his wife. I will be glad to share this. paul Eble was a grandson of John Baptiste Eble.--mperkins@gt.rr.com

Yes, that is her name. Which Bill Sala is he? I tried to look it up, but only one was listed, from Canada. I have a new computer, a Mac instead of a PC, and it is giving me a lot of trouble, I have to convert my Family Tree Maker files so I don't have access to them at the moment. I have hard copies of them all, but they are back in California.

I am VERY sorry I am so late in responding. Yes, their property was on what is now the Jefferson Proving Grounds (JPG) in Monroe and Lancaster townships. I know that George, his wife, and 3 of his sons are buried in the Marble Valley cemetery which had been on the JPG grounds. I believe they must have been members of the Marble Valley Methodist Church. What cemetery was John buried in? I know her remarried after his first wife died. There is also a Philip Ebley who lived in Jefferson Co., in Saluda twp. I don't think he was a brother, but I found it interesting since their father's name is Philip and George and John both have sons named Philip. George and John each had children named Philip, Charles and Mary. I found the info on their parents at Familysearch.org, in case you are interested.
I believe the book you are talking about was written by Connie Brown, she is a descendant of Louisa Eble, daughter of John. Bill Sala has a family tree at Ancestry.com with a lot of information on it, and pictures! Let me know if you want more info!

Hi Daphne: I will get the poem copied today and get it out in the mail. The rest I can send to your e-mail. Grandma Ragsdale wrote down a lot of the family information which was a big help in getting me started. The poem was among some papers my Aunt sent me after my Uncle Ralph died. My Aunt Margaret is still living in Toledo and she turned 90 this year. Is Temperance very far from Toledo? We should probably continue this conversation through e-mail. It is getting too chatty for the message boards.
Pat

Pat,
My father and whole family grew up in Toledo. Too bad you moved to California. We could have met:-) I believe we would be 3rd cousins?? My father would have been even closer to you. I have not gotten very far with the Eble family line and would love to be in touch with someone who has any information there. My email address is michellebeczynski@hotmail.com. I would love any information that you have to pass along and if there is ever any information that I could help you with, I would be more than happy to help. I just recently found the Parke and Hartpence lines which I am excited to follow so your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for the information you've given me so far. I can't wait to see Sarah's poem, especially after the way you described it. Thanks again,
Daphne

Hi Daphne: Well, your Father must have grown up in Toledo too. Ina Good Ragsdale is my Grandmother and Harry Good is her brother. I was born in Toledo too but we moved to California when I was 11. Hannah Etta Lambert married John Good. Does your Father have the Eble information? I can put you in touch with someone who has researched this family. I will have to contact him first to see if he is still at the same e-mail address. If you send me your e-mail address I will send you all I have on Sarah Elizabeth's background which includes the Parke and Hartpence lines which go back quite a ways.
I love sharing and so many have helped me along the way.
Pat

Pat,
I can't tell you how excited I am to have this information. My father, Allen Eble has always searched for the burial place of his grandparents and never knew. He is so happy and grateful for this information so thank you, thank you! If it is truly not an inconvenience for you, we would be absolutely delighted to have a copy of the poem. My address is 1373 Laurelhurst Temperance, MI 48182. Also, he wanted me to ask about the Good family. He does have memories of a Harry Good and an Ina Ragsdale. I'm not sure how Ina fits in to the picture but, he seems to believe it was the same family.
Thank you again,
Daphne

They are both buried at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery, Sylvania, Lucas Co., Ohio. About the poem, If you could send me your e-mail address I can type it out for you or if you would like a copy of the original piece of paper she wrote it on I would need your home address. Unfortunatly my copy machine won't transfer things to e-mail. my e-mail address is lane@grantspass.com It is so nice hearing from you.
Thanks for the update on my gggrandfather's brother. Was your ancestor's property on the decomissioned army property, or outside of it? Part of my gggrandfather's farm was inside the fence, and the graves were on that part, then moved to another cemetery when it became a proving ground. I live a long way from there, so I have not tracked them down. The book I mentioned by my distant relative (possibly in the Library of Congress rather than the Smithsonian--I am visiting my family in Iowa at this time and don't have the book with me) says that the headstones are underneath one of the army buildings, but I wrote to the fellow who was in charge of genealogy issues at the proving ground and he said that this was not true, that they had also been moved to the other cemetery. George and Charles are the names of my two of my uncles, the family liked to reuse names. I would love to hear more from you about your family.

Hi, My gggrandfather, John Eble, came to the US in the early part of the 19th century. He came from Wirtemburg, Ulm,Germany, but the family was from Alsace-Lorraine and were French. The pronunciation was Eblay' at that time. He came to Philadelphia initially because his brother was a doctor there. He moved on to a farm near Madison, IN and lived there until he died. One of his sons, my ggrandfather, Charles Eble, married there, fought in the civil war, and moved to South Dakota to homestead. Eventually he moved to Norfolk, NE where he owned a brothel and a bar. A distant relative has written a book on the genealogy of the Eble family, it is in the Smithsonian, I have a copy of it. It is quite extensive, plus my family has records from the family bible. There is not much information about the family in Europe, although John Baptiste Eble, one of Napoleon's generals, is supposed to be related, and he is also from Alsace-Lorraine. If anyone has information to tie this all together, I would appreciate knowing it. It is a very interesting family. Pamela Robinson

I did a search on familysearch.org using their new beta search feature. I was looking for the parents of my 2nd great-grandfather, George Eble who was born in Wurttemberg. I found this information for children of Philipp Eble and Magdalena Stopper all born in Laupheim, Wurttemberg:

Monika b. 21 Jan 1814
Johannes Evangelist b. 29 Jan 1815
Philipp b. 20 Dec 1816
Maria Anna b. 16 Apr 1811
Johannes George b. 12 Aug 1812

I feel this nay be my 2nd great-grandfather's parents. I know he was born Aug 10, 1812 and his brother John was born c. 1815.
Is anyone else searching this line? Does anyone have any more info?
Hi again, doing more looking and I found my ggrandfathers family with all the children listed. It was a mistake on the spelling of the last name they had it as cole but under it is listed as eble. there were six children not 3, they are Harry, William, Helen, Wayton, John and Katie (my grandmother) I understand she was a twin but her sister did not survive. My great grandfather arrived on the La Normandia on July 28, 1884 from La Harve France
Maybe he was related to your family Eble but I am not sure.
Thanks again
Anne Monahan

Hi,sorry I have not replied but working a lot this week. I know that my great grandfather was Vincent Eble his wife was Catherine. They were from Germany and settled in Philadelphia Pa. I believe they departed for the USA from France. They had 3 children, my grandmother Kate one brother named John and not sure of the other sibling. I do know that Johns wife was Clara and the son John had two children and from what I understand they moved to NJ. I remember my mother telling me that her grandfather was a tailor and sat in the attic and made suits. I have such little information only bits and pieces. If any of this sounds familiar maybe you can shed some light on the family.

Thanks
Anne
i am not sure if i have been in contact with you about my eble clan ? my ggrandfather came from elzach : black forest as well. anton eble came to usa in 1907. i have been successful in getting his lineage back to abt. 1700. the area his family members lived in is close to france and i believe they all were from there initially. since almost all of the civil records were housed in areas destroyed in the wars, i found most of my info. in church records. i actually had someone from germany locate & translate them for me. i can check my records for these ebles' if you like. joseph eble was the father of anton and the name of his brother as well in my tree.

Hi - I am Lillian's daughter. She did not pass in Evansville. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Evansville College (now University) and she became a teacher in the Washington, D.C. metro area. When she passed on she was in an auto accident on the job as a visiting teacher at a high school in Fairfax County. Lillian held a Master's degree from American University in D.C. in education. She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetary beside her husband Harry Frederick Opperman. He had one sister, Hazel F. Opperman. Harry was a graduate of Evansville College and the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He then graduated with his law degree and passed the Virginia Bar as an attorney from what is now George Washington University. He retired from Trademark Division, Labor Department in D.C. and returned to live briefly in Evansville and then passed away with a brain tumour in 1974.

Lillian had one sister who died at birth. Her other sisters are Evelyn Decker, Thelma Tanner, Catherine Gotta, Sophie Waggoner, Blanche Ruston, Jeannette (don't know last name), Betty Dosier, Andrew Eble (passed on in California), Roscoe Eble (passed in Evansville) and Robert Eble, a veteran of WWII who lives in Indio, California.

Lillian and Harry's granddaughter is Susan Shaune Heywood. She is also a teacher (as were Evelyn, Thelma, Lillian, and Blanche). Susan has two undergrad degrees in mass comm. and English from the University of AL at Birmingham and she has a minor in Spanish from the U. of Mexico. She also holds an M.S.Ed. from Samford University, Birmingham, AL. The year Susan graduated from Samford, their Education School was named by the U.S. Dept. of Ed. Secretary in D.C. one of the top four education schools in the U.S. All degrees were conferred with top honors. She is a Kappan. Susan teaches gifted students in the Atlanta, GA metro area in Gwinnett County.

Hope this gives you a bit of an update.

Thanks for posting what you had.
Hello. The names you describe are similar to that of my family. My ggg grandmother was Madelene Elbea (Elbe). Her husband was Christian Rehr (Rhea, Reher). They lived in what is now Northern Germany,Denmark/Hamburg area. I can find little else about the name Elbea. Maybe they took the surname for the Elbe River they lived near. Their daughter was Hermine (Hermenia) from Fairview, NJ. She emigrated in 1899 to NY from Hamburg. She was married to Robert Mueller (b. 1869 in Memel)& settled in Jersey City. Their daughter was Anna Johanna Magdalena Lucre Muller (b.1895). I believe the Lucre name to possibly be French. One of my g-aunts with Alzheimer's kept talking of a Walter Zimmermann in connection to Anna Johanna. I know Anna's 2ND husband Max Hamer (they were cousins) traveled to Chicago & had friends/relatives that lived there. Do you have any recent info on Anton or the name Elbe that you would like to pass along? Thanks, Pam Rowe.
I think this is my my father you are referring to. He was Rev. Charles R. Eble and had many churches throughout the US - the last one was in WV. He was born in 1919 in Philadelphia. His father's name was Francis A. Eble. His mother was Mary Eble. I don't know her maiden name.

I remember once when we were in Philadelphia going to visit a Charles Eble there who was my father's cousin, I believe.

Amelia Eble Carney and Edgar R (Red) Carney were my father's adopted parents in Cleveland Heights. I never knew either one as both passed away before I was born. My father was (adopted name) Edgar Russell Carney, Jr., born Alexius Somen from Croatia. My maiden name was Maureen Ann Carney; I grew up in Cleveland Heights as well.

I would love to learn more about my family as much has been shrouded in secrecy. I have a number of old photos that may contain pics of some of the Eble family. Some of the Ebles went to St Ann's School with me in the 50's & 60's.
