hi re the berkshire ebsworths. my ebsworth family came from
ashbury and idstone / close together. my ebsworths moved to
the next county wiltshire in 1840s were farm labourers and lived in a small hamlet called snapp. close to aldbourne
they moved to paddington london about 1875. thay could be linked to your family. regards roy.

hi re paddington ebsworths . george ebsworth was married to harriet grant they both lived in a place called snap a deserted village about 2 miles from aldborne in wiltshire. george father was charles ebsworth from ashbury / berkshire
he married mary giles from aldbourne. georges son william
ebsworth married france jane tuck. my great grandparents.
there daughter gertrude france louise ebsworth married age nineteen. her husband albert my grandfather was in the army
in glasgow and they had there 1st and second child in glasgow. he went to the boer war. and she returned to paddington. i hope this helps you. roy.

just wondering if there is a link here as my grandfather's second name was Francis - have no information about him, so would be very grateful to learn of anything about the Ebsworth family. Harold Francis Piers Ebsworth was born on October 8th 1899. he apparently came from Southfiels in South London and married my grandmother, Alice Beadon, who was in service and came from the Kensington/Nottinghill area. I believe her father was a bookie. not much else known, I'm afraid, most family members now deceased along with their memories.

Hi-may well be barking uo the wrong tree but am interested to learn more about my grandfather, Harold Francis Piers Ebsworth who was born on Oct 8th 1899. He came from Southfields in south London and married Alice Beadon, my grandmother. who was in service.and came from the Kensington/Nottinghill area. Harold's family apparently believed he had married "beneath him" and there are now no family connections to refute or confirm this. but they had three daughters, now all deceased. Harold served in Ireland at some point (I believe in the Ulster Constabulary)and then came to Bedfordshire where he was the village policeman in a few local villages. He had the reputation of being a bit of a rogue and I think my grandmother did well to bring up her daughters and cope with his excesses! They eventually settled in Langford which is where I now live. My cousin Tim and myself, born in 1947, bear the Ebsworth name as our middle name and were christened as such in Langford church at the latter end of 1947. I do hope there is somewhere somewhere who can give us more of an insight into the Ebsworth family.

hi its roy back cleaning up on research. to refresh.. my grandmother was the ebsworths first born gertrude frances louise .something i am trying to clear up is my grandmother
had her 1st two children born in glasgow. i found them in paddington in the census two years later. along with her younger sister living with her . her name lily jessie ebsworth aged 16 the information i have is she was born 14th july 1884 in glasgow. if this is correct. were did the ebsworths ever live in glagow for a short time. as my grandfather was in the army stationed in glasgow. regards roy.

hi a correction to information on my grandmother gertrude
ebsworth. she was married in paddington to albert ernest george smith. i found on the wedding certificate that the bans were read for ernest smith at barone parish glasgow.
he was in the army in maryhill barracks glasgow.they had two children in glasgow ethel born 1897. george born 1900
alice born 1902 lily rose born 1903 died 1903 / lily rebecca born 1904 rose lydia born 1904 / harriet / patricia
twins born 1905 / patricia died 1907 age 2 / ernest born
1906 albert born and died 1913. and harry. my father born
1914. most of the family lived in paddington london until
married. who was your wifes mother and father ? hope this

the info on frances jane tuck is as follows her father was
issac tuck who was a master bootmaker and came from
broadtown / broadhinton in wiltshire. if you go on the aldbourne forum website you will find a info on snap and the ebsworths from 1841 - 1861 census. when the left aldbourne and went back to ashbury at a later date left for paddington.gertrude ebsworth married in glasgow to albert
ernest george smith. he was in the army. they had two children in glasgow before moving to paddington. hope this helps welcome to the family.

I am carrying out research for my 'better half' and Gertrude Ebsworth was her great grandmother. Any details of her and her father William would be particularly useful. I only have 5 children listed - you mention 9, can you give details? The bigger mystery is William's wife Frances Jane Tuck. Do you have any information about her? You mention an orphanage - any further details.

hi carole re william ebsworth my great grandfather. i have just found reference to him in the 1871 census. his father
george age 38 . his mother harriett age 40. william was 18
his brother tom age 14 . jesse age 13 and rose aged 11
it gave a address as snapp cottage aldbourn. i beleave they
died back in paddington regards roy. ps has anybody got any photos of the ebsworths.

i found some referance to her as being in a orphanage in
ashleydown barton regis gloucester. as a child i met

met as a child. but my grandmother never saw any other of the family. she married albert ernest george smith in january 1878 . there last child was harry my father.

i have some problem finding that side of the family

Yes her maiden name is indeed Frances Jane Tuck,she died in 1904 age 57 in Paddington, London,She married william Ebsworth in 1978 in Paddington, London her fathers name was Issac tuck ( this info is as correct as it gets lol, I have the marriage and death certificate :)I dont have all the children to hand at the moment but I will try and help you fill the gaps but I do know they had a daughter in 1881, Alice mary born 10th august in st marylebone, (have the certificate with both parents names on). William Ebsworth died in 1928 aged 75 in Kesington, London hope this helps for now will dig deeper into my files and see what I can find for you soon

hi mary it seams possible that harry ebswowth was my grandmothers youngest brother born 1889 in paddington one of eight children. my grandmother being the 1st child born in october 1878 the only one i met as a child was harriet
ebsworth. i think my granmother was the black sheep of the family as she never talked about them. harriet used to visit
every 3months and give her some money. the last one of my
granmothers sisters i found was louisa ebsworth born 1885
in the cencus it gave a address 50 seymour buildings seymore

Hi, sounds as though we could be related.

I know my Grandad had a brother called "Bill", though I never met him. My Great Aunty Alice had a daughter called Jane I think.
My Grandad also had a stepbrother called Stan Patterson who had learning difficulties & lived with Nan & Grandad, but I'm not sure how they were related (mum or dad).
My Grandparents lived in Paddington & all the children were born there as was I....Londoner born & bred!!!
My Grandparents died in the eighties. My parents are alive as are my mother's sister & younger brother. Her elder brother died last christmas. All have moved out of London now & live scattered in Sussex, but are still in contact with each other.
If you want to swap more info please get in touch.
I have beeen looking up my family tree with little luck until now. It would be lovely to find out more about the family.
One of my sisters has also been trying & has found a connection with the Ebsworths of Marylebourne who were gentry, but my grandfather's mother appeared to have had an affair with my great grandfather before they were married, which resulted in Stan....she left under a cloud to Ireland then came back 5 years later with Stan in tow. My great grandparents then got married, much to the disgust of the Ebsworth family. I believe Mary died around 1967. I don't know much more about the history,I hope this is of interest to you.

Yes it is the same Freeman's & Ebsworth's.
On my mother's side, her mother was a Freeman & her family come from the Davage's & before that the Dale's.
There has been quite a few Roberts in the family! There are also Marys & obviously Ruths! Ruth also had a brother called Robert...my great uncle Robert (known as Bob). My Nan had 4 children with Henry (my grandad)...known as Harry in the family. Their children were called Robert, Mollie, Ruth (my mother) & Peter. Sadly Robert died last Christmas. But my brother's middle name is Robert & one of my sister's sons is called Robert. Incidentily 2 of my sisters are twins & my Nan...Ruth was a twin. Her twin died when she was a baby. My Nan's mum (Ruth Davage) was supposedly born with a the second sight & was physic & my Nan was born with a veil over her face & was able to converse with the other side from time to time!!!! We think the wedding date might be wrong though....or maybe my grandparents were married in haste! Where do you live? Sounds as though you're in Yorkshire.
Would love to hear more about what you have found out so far.

Hi I think we have a match! My Great Grandfather; George William Davage was born in Sheffield, he had 6 Sisters, one of the Sisters; Ruth Davage married Robert Freemanl
They had a daughter; Ruth Ellen Freeman born 1914 in Rotherham. This Ruth married a Henry Ebsworth in 1934 in Paddington.

Hi my grandparents on my mother's side were Henry & Ruth Ebsworth. My grandfather was known as Harry. My nan was a born & bred Yorkshire woman! Unfortunately they died over 25 years ago. But they were the best grandparents a girl could ask for. I have been trying (admittedly halfheartedly!) for several years to trace my family tree, without much success, so I'm hoping we are talking about the same Ebsworth's. Sorry for the delay in answering your original enquiry, but I have only just come across it. As I'm sure you've found there's quite a few red herrings out there! Seeking help tracking down my great-grandfather. Not sure of a birthplace, perhaps Colchester. He was a Captain in the Army and was killed by a sniper in France during WWI. (September 1918) He was married to a woman named Florence Agnes Henry and they had four children, (Ernest, Alex, Edith and Muriel). All but Muriel came to America and settled in St. Louis, Missouri. Anyone have any leads? Thanks so much!

Thomas Ebsworth Amroth Pembs b 1770 (m Susannah Webb)

Thomas Ebsworth b 1822 Marros Carms or Crunwear Pembs (m Mary)

Can't find any connection between then but there must be??

ps - I know the line referred to elsewhere regarding a Noel Ebsworth.
