Hi, my maiden name is also Eck. My grandfather, John August Eck, immigrated from a place called Dalsland, Sweden in the early 1900's. His grandfather, Johan Andersson, was stationed at a military post name 'Ek'. He took the name of the post as his own. It was changed to Eck when my grandfather immigrated. Johan married Kristina Olafsdotter. They both died of small pox. Their daughter, Anna Katrina (whose husband, Edward, also took the post's name of EK) was my grandfather's mother. My grandfather had six brothers and sisters. Don't know if this is helpful at all, but if it is, let me know. I'm finding out more all the time.
