I know it has been 6 years that you posted the info on Moses Eckard and I don't think I ever thanked you properly. I know you have communicated with my aunt Norna Isbell, my mother was her sister Florence named after her aunt Florence Eckard. Norma and I researched the family together with her daughter Judy. Sadly they are both gone now. I've picked up the pieces and have restarted my research, and wanted to thank you greatly for your information. Your 1st cousin once removed, Dug Beeskau

What I know is that my great-grandpa was John Christopher Eckard and my grandpa was one of his kids, Clifford Eckard, and I was wondering if you maybe had come across some info on this branch of Eckards? Thanks so much!

We may be able to help a bit; we have a Fannie Leona Bowman who married a William Thomas Echerd, whose son we show as John P. Echerd. It could be that the middle initial should read "B". Do you have a copy of the certificate?

There were several "Fannie" Eckards in our line, so I don't know if this is the same person you seek. You can write us at EckardFam@aol.com.

I have been trying, to nearly no avail, to continue the research my grandfather has done on our ancestry.

I am desperately searching for any information on his family.

My Great, Great Grandfather was Louis John Eckard. Emil and Oswald stayed in Germany and I have no other information on them either.

Louis John Eckard married Claretta Luttrell in West Virginia (have a good amount of info on that and her family line).

Their children were Nellie, Emil, Emma E b. 1881 (who later married Ell H Payne), Carrie V b. 1883, Margaret T b. 1884, Bessie C b. 1888, Nettie S b. 1889, Lewis Oswald or Jack b. 1885, and William E b. 1896 (my Great Grandfather)

I know that most of the family lived in and around the Pittsburg, PA Allegheny area, though some later moved away.

William Emil later married Sarah Evelyn Churm.

I can find absolutely no info on any of these brothers and sisters except for on the 1900 Census.

If anyone has any info at all on any of them please help!

Thanks!
David Eckard's Baptismal Certificate

Per loose family records of Peter Rauch copied from the records of John B. Echerd found in the vertical files in the Alexander Co NC library in Taylorsville, NC:

There is mentioned a baptismal certificate for a David Eckard that shows Peter Rowe and "his wife" Sabina as witnesses at David's baptism. Sorry no dates given for David on my copy.

It is stated that a Mrs. Fannie Eckard of Hickory, R.F.D. has this certificate. There is no date on my copy so I can not offer a time frame for Fannie.

I will assume, without any proof, that Peter Rowe/Rauch/Rough (born 1774- died 1856 in Catawba Co NC)and wife Sabina are this David's parents or grandparents. I would like to confirm David's parents.

Does anyone know where this certificate is now? I would like to confirm the information offered on the certificate. I especially would like to know if Sabina/Sophia's maiden name is written on this certificate.

Does any one have information about this certificate, Mrs. Fannie Eckard of Hickory, NC or this David?

ECKARD ECKERT Clay County, IN 1850

Does anyone know anything about the two MOSES EKERT (ECKARDs) that are on the
Washington Twp., Clay County, Indiana 1850 census?
NOTE: They appear to be neighbors with only 3 households separating them.

No. 1
Page 456
101...101....Moses Ekert (ECKARD), age 51 born NC
...................Elizabeth age 31 born KY
...................Emaline age 10
...................Jacob age 6
...................Sarah age 1/2
living in household of Richard and Martha Boland
and next door to Elijah J. and Melvina Ekert (Eckard)

No. 2
Page 457
105...105....Moses Ekert (ECKARD), age 53 born NC,
...................Elizabeth age 42 born IN
...................Jacob age 6
...................Francis age 1

Also on the same census is:
Armstrong Eckerd , age 21 born IN, (this is Moses Armstrong ECKARD)
Mickey (Micca), age 19 born IN (this is Micca Tribble, Trible)

I believe from information I have seen that (#2) Moses Ekert may be the father of:
Armstrong Eckard and Elijah J. (Ekert) Eckard
both of which are in Clay County, IN in 1850
and that his wife was Sarah Killion (Sarah Elizabeth perhaps?)
children of Moses and Sarah are:
Elijah Jefferson Eckard b. 1818 IN
Frederick K. Eckard b. 1824 IN
Moses Armstrong Eckard b. 1828 IN
Jacob Eckard b. 1844 IN
Frances E. Eckard b. 1850 IN

Two other possible children are:
John Wesley Eckard b. 1830 IN
Harvey G. Eckard b. 1834 IL

Based on other census information it appears that Moses Armstrong Eckard, John Wesley Eckard
and Harvey G. Eckard are probably brothers.

I would enjoy hearing from others that have an interest in these families.

Re: Moses Eckard

Moses Eckard is buried in the Eckard cemetary just outside Topeka Illinois His wife Sarah is also there there is a tall stone with dates on it. He came across the states working as a peddler? Stopping along the way to make money to proceed. helped to found the town ship of Topeka Ill and built a mill there Had at least 3 children 2 boys Henry and John Richard {my grandfather} the daughter is buried there also John Eckard married Nancy Mellisa Bates from Peoria My grandfather murdered a man there in 1899 The court made him leave the state Henry had something to do with the railroad and the daughter married and farmed on the land where the cemetary is. There are about 150 graves in that cemetary all related in some way The home of John burned down about 20 years ago. There is alot of info on the Eckard family at the Havanna Library and the micro film dept in Springville. I understand the there is a survey paper some where for the township signed by the suveyor Abe Lincoln . Moses donated land for the church The old Mill was still standing when I was there 20 years ago. i talked with a grandson of Henry while in Topeka and learned of the murder. My Mother Ruth Marie Eckard Lorton was the last of 12 children { to pass away } of John and Nancy but never told of the shame it must have put on the family. The Eckard children of John went on to So Dakota, Calif , Iowa, Mo and Kan. Johnny Eckard fought in WW1 Nancy left John and the kids after 5 years in Mo changed her name died in 1923 and is buried in St Joe Mo My mother was raised by a family in Chilacothe Mo I have pictues of Moses and Sarah and of some of their children Jessie, Mildred, Johnny, Edward, Florence, and some I can't put names too. Moses died before the murder but my mother was 8 then and she told me she liked her grandfather. Hope this helps you some

Libby,

Thank you for the info. We would dearly love any photos you'd like to share w/ us. Likewise, if you have any photo requests, please just ask. I will tell you we are in the processes of moving home to NC (final haul will be on 6/8). Our photos are there at the moment but we will certainly keep any requests you make and, as soon as we can find the boxes w/ the photos in it, I'll get them copied and on their way. Patience will be the key.

Again, thanks.

(James) Ott Lail is my great grandfather. He married Delia Emma Bailey her dad was John Bailey---which I can find no info on)....they had several children of which Armetta Lail was my grandmother---she married Vernon C Eckard. Do you by any chance have a book called "History of Hildebran-Icard Community " done November 20, 1976? it was compiled by the Bicentennial Committee. Very useful info in it.

P.S. Do you have any info on the Lails past Ott Lail? I know my grandmother's sister Phyllis (Toots) is still living. Not sure about the other siblings. Thanks!!!!
