I was told I was named after Sophia, and also my Fench grandmother, Sophie Brousse. Your post mentioned Oklahoma so I think you are talking about my great grandparents. My grandmother was May Wortendyke. My grandfather, Sim Sheppard, talked May's parents into moving to Oklahoma after which he married May-- I have some old photos of her grandparents (Eckersons)and her brothers -- I believe the elder Eckersons also moved kater to OK to be with their daughter, May's mother. I do not have info on John's parents, but would like to know more. May was a DAR and somewhere I have a list of her family. Will try to find it and will let you know if I do. It may take me awhile -- we are lambing and then start farming soon so I am pretty busy. Personal email is nwgba@citlink.net if you want to just email.

As a matter of fact, I do. He is my 1st cousin 6 times removed. Are you a relative? There seems to be so few of us, and there seems to be no interest in updating the only Eckerson book out there. If you'll contact me privately, I'm certainly willing to meet a new relative and share what I have. kbhine@aol.com.

Hello, I am trying to research the Eckersons in my husband's family. I've gotten as far back as an Isaac Eckerson who was born in 1807 in New York (not sure where, but got that much off of a census), and his parents were born in Pennsylvania. He lived in New Jersey most of his life, according to these censuses. He was married to Almira. Any help would be very appreciated! Thanks.

I thought since you had some Eckerson info you might be able to help...

Wortendyke connection

My 2nd great aunt Sophia Eckerson born 1848 in Old Tappan, Bergen Co, NJ married John S Wortendyke in 1871. I am looking for the identity of his parents. He was born June 1847 in NJ, and lived in Brooklyn NY, Delford NJ and Oklahoma. He was a butcher and later ran a hotel.

Elsewhere in my tree I have a Fredrick Wortendyke and Eliza A (don't know maiden name). They had a son John S in 1847 then she died, and John isn't in any future census with Fredrick. I am thinking they could be the same person, but don't have enough info to merge the 2 permanently.

T.H. Eckerson, Portland 1929

Found at yard sale a page from old photo album a newspaper clipping and photo dated 1929 of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Eckerson with new car preparing to go to Philipines where he was a sales rep for a drug co. Same page had a photo of what looks to be same couple. Back of page is postcard from Buffalo NY. Has a picture of Liberty Bank Bldg and a note stating the person worked in building across the plaza.
Would like to return to relatives of the Eckersons.

I'm not certain this would copy legibly. It is a faded, dark and torn clipping pasted to a black page from an album. Someone has written on the date Sept. 24 or 29, 1929 in pencil. I'm not certain which Portland the paper refers to. The text below the picture reads:
Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Eckerson with their Dodge Sedan Shipped From Portland. A Dodge Bros' sedan was selected by T.H. Eckerson, Representative of an internationally known drug supply house for the Phillipine Islands and parts of China, because after careful study of automobiles in the tropics over a period of years, he was convinced that the Dodge Bros mono piece bodywould withstand the rigors of the climate of his territory. Through Braley & Graham Dodge dealers for Portland, a right hand drive export model Dodge sedan was obtained especially for Eckerson and it arrived just a few hours before his boat sailed for the orient.
I don't know which Portland this refers to, the names of the car dealers might help you find out. The post card pasted on the back is from the Buffalo, NY so if there's a Portalnd NY it may be there.
I am quite willing to send all this material to the person I'm sure it belongs to..at no cost to them except postage.
I hope this will help you figure out if this is your relative
Cheryl

I live near Springfield, MO and this page from an album was forund in a garage sale box in Springfield this past summer. I have sort of a "hobby" of picking up items like this and finding their owners.
Cheryl

Have you seen Ray Eckerson's 1939 Genealogy on the Eckerson families of Schoharie? There is quite a bit of information in it on William N. Eckerson, but you are right, I don't see a trail back from his parents Thomas Eckerson and Nancy Kilmer. If you haven't seen this compilation, contact me at capriomcnamara@aol.com

Much of my family history is from Schoharie County NY.

I am attaching one of the pages in 2 parts.
