I have been reviewing the Eckert list and found Ken's answer to my query back in 2004. I believe that the Elias Eckert in Ohio could be the father of my Elias Eckert who may have moved from Ohio down the Mississippi River. Elias Eckert m. Nancy Roberts 1839 Wilkinson County, MS. Daughter Mary Orlean Eckert married my ggrandfather, John Davidson.

What was the first name? Ludwig Eduard Eckert sometimes went by Louis in Germany. He was married in Germany, had three children (one survived - our relative) and then left for the USA by himself. The ex-wife remarried in 1886.

Thank you,

Ray Mohr and Iris Eckert

10-12 years ago I wrote the ECKERTs listed in the German phone book as living in Sternenfels. I got a response from Otto Eckert, in his late 60's at the time..since departed.
Anyway, Otto was the family historian..he gave me all the details, in English..
We are related, from the same "Tribe" so to speak.
OUR Eckerts originally came from ALTENBURG in TUBINGEN. Sometime circa 1720 they moved to Sternenfels..lost their property due to civil war, and "Papists". Our Eckerts were Reformed & Lutheran Protestants.
I have a page on Rootsweb; http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&...

Also have transcribed German church records on ECKERTs. Collateral lines for you, but everything helps..
Email me privately
beck-ert@hvc.rr.com

Thank you for the response. The person who emigrated in 1881 was Ludwig Eduard Eckert. His father was Johann Jakob Eckert, also of Sternenfels, and his mother was Katharine Elisabeth Gerbig. Ludwig was born 22 April 1852, so Johann s/b 1820-30's. We have the bible when Ludwig married and we also found a record of him in Familysearch.com submitted by an LDS member. No source info was given, however, it listed the correct parents.

Brothers?
Remember, most of the males first names were JOHAN..ie; JOHAN LUDWIG..
Also, many ECKERTs were EKERT on US documents..

Hello,

The following is my Eckert Family - do you suppose your research is my family tree line? See below:

I am trying to find out where my ggggg grandfather, Conrad (Conratt,Conradt) Eckert ( it states that he was over 16 years when he came to America) and he (b. abt 1710) came from in Germany. He came over on the ship "Samuel" in August 1731 and I believe his brother, uncle, father, Heinrich Eckert came over on the "Pleasant" (it states that he was 40 years when he came over) a year later in 1732. It states that both ships were from Rotterdam and they both arrived in Philadelphia. I would like to find out where they came from in Germany or any information you could provide. How was Heinrich related to Conrad? Do you know who Conrad's parents were? His parents would have been b. in Germany abt 1660 - it is my understanding that about 12 children came to America at different times - my ggggg grandfather Conrad Eckert ?

I have now entered over 600 names in my family tree.

I have tracked my family as follows:
(me) Anne Eckert Valliere b. 1942 Gettysburg, PA now living in Vermont
(Father) Wilber Lee Eckert b. 1901 East Berlin, PA m. Rita R. Shaum (her parents were David B. Shaum and Sarah (Sally) M. Adams)
(Grand) Emerson Lloyd b. 1873 New Oxford, PA m. Cora Belle Deardorff
(Great) Titus S. Eckert b. 1829 New Oxford, PA m. Elizabeth Catharine Swormstedt
(Gr Gr) Abraham Eckert b. 1783 PA Mountpleasant, Adams County, PA m. Catharine Spitler
(Gr Gr Gr) John, Jr. b. 1755 Conewaga, Adams County, PA m. Elizabeth Horner
(Gr Gr Gr Gr) John, Sr. b. 1734 m. PA Catharine Pfoutz
(Gr.Gr Gr Gr Gr) Conrad b. Abt. 1710 Germany m. Dorothea Breling - who came over on the "Samuel" with Conrad Eckert.

I started researching my Eckert family tree and found that Titus Eckert b.06 Mar 1829 m. 24 Oct 1859 Elizabeth Catharine L. Swormstedt b.12 Nov 1833, daughter of Dr. Samuel Lucket Swormstedt b. 04 Apr 1801 m. 21 Apr 1825 Margaret Boone b. 13 Dec 1803, daughter of John Boone b. 02 Feb 1765 m. 19 Sep 1800 Sarah Griffith, all of Maryland.

My 95 year old Aunt Ruth from York, Pennsylvania says that we are descendents of George Boone, brother of Daniel Boone and they say to believe what is pasted-down, but I can't find the connection. Also I got my Boone information from the Westminster, Maryland Library and Historical Society - I have a publication from Bill Mountain, 426 Lincoln Avenue, S.W., Glen Burnie, Maryland 21061 dated and signed July 1982 in which he gives the "Boone's Family of Anne Arundel County" descending from Captain Humphrey Boone 16 -1709 and beyond to 1550's (the hereditary titles of Hereford and Essex were passed to the DEVEREUX Family. This was because of an earlier marriage by a DEVEREUX to an heiress apparent of the BOHUN/Boone Family." I need to find the connection, if any, to George Boone, brother of Daniel Boone.

Christian Swormstedt (Swamstead, Swarmsteed, Swormstead, etc.)(born in Germany) d. bef Oct 14, 1714 m. Judith, that came over between 1669 and 1710 into Calvert County, Maryland (he was naturalized by an act of Parliament in 1710 - "This act was passed in the 9th year of Queen Anne's reign Edward Lloyd, Esq. President of the Legislative body") - he was a surgeon (spelled chirurgeon). Where would I search for the ship that he came over on - if you know? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Gee, I want to know a lot, huh? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Anne Eckert Valliere
alvalliere@msn.com
Barre, Vermont (from Maryland/Pennsylvania)
802-479-2419
That would definately put my tree in order.
I have a 4th cousin, Barbara Eckert Pettet that is also searching this line.
We are looking for parents of David Eckert b1805 m.Elizabeth Christman(cristman)?? any ideas?
thanks,
Ida

My Eckert tree at this point starts with Johannes Eckert born abt 1730 and died 1787. Me married Maria Eva. I don't know where either were born but their children are as follows:

Johannes Eckert, b. 01 May 1754 Northampton Co., PA: d. 18 May 1943, unk.

One of their children -

Johannes Eckert born 01 May 1754 in Northampton Co., PA and died 18 May 1843 in Unk. He married Saral Elizabeth Frey. She was born 01 Oct. 1766 in Unk. and died 10 July 1840 in Unk.

One of their children David Eckert, b. Abt 1805 Northampton Co., PA, d. 24 June 1883, Delaware Twp. PA. He married Elizabeth Christman 10 Nov 1827 in St. Johns Evangelical, Easton PA, USA.

One of their children William D. Eckert, b: 16 June 1840 in Northumberland, PA, USA and died 27 Sept 1902 in Erie, PA. He married Sarah Comly Murphy in 1860 in PA. She was born 18 Nov. 1842 in PA and died 03 Feb 1905 in Milton, Northumberland, PA

One of their children was William Riddle Eckert, born 1864 in PA and died in 1940 in Ca. He married Dovealicee Rubbs abt 1894 in Lafayette, Mississippi. She was born 30 Aug 1876 and died 10 Feb. 1971 in Los Angeles These two people were my father's parents and my grandparents.

I have a lot of iffy dates etc. and perhaps even errors in names and mates.

Any help would be so much appreciated. Especially if you can go back further in history showing where my Eckert clan originated.

Hope I haven't asked too much. This has been a hard family to run down because my father's dad left the family when my father was only about 16 and anything known to me before that is clues from a few family members and tracing that person back.

Thanks very much, Barb

One

I received an querry on Ancestry.com from you regarding the Eckert Family History. The only other name you mentioned was a Joseph and I don't know of a Joseph in my Eckert Tree. My tree goes back to Johannes Eckert b: abt 1730, his son Jonannes Eckert, born 01 May 1754 in Northampton Co., PA., his son David Eckert, born abt 1805 in Northampton Co., Pahis son William D. Eckert born in 1840 in Northumberland, PA, his son William Riddle Eckert, born 1864 in PA and he was my grandfather. Is any of this anything you need further info on? Perhaps Joseph is a son of a descendant of one of these Eckerts. Let me know. Barb
I haven't done as much searching on the Eckert side of my family at this time but from my notes, the only male Eckerts I have born about the time of Mary are Benjamin Franklin, b.28 Sept 1828 in Northampton Co., PA. Samuel, b. abt 1832 unk. Levi, b. abt 1844. I do not have any info. on their wives or families. I think most were born in Northumberland, PA. because that is where my family members lived at that time. Hope this helps. Let me know.

Barb

I realize it has been a few years since you posted your offer, but I was hoping you would still be there to help find John Eckert, married to Mary Jane in about 1869, before they got to the states. I do believe he was born in Germany in about 1848. They had a daughter named Elizabeth"Lizzie" born in the states in about 1876. That would narrow the window of immigraion to between 1869-1876.
Hope to hear from you.
sd2ks

Benjamin Eckert, born PA abt 1820

I'm searching for the family of Benjamin Eckert, born about 1820 in Pennsylvania. He lived in Saucon, PA in 1850 with his wife Elizabeth (b. abt. 1827 in NJ) and sons Frank (1842-1901) and Martin (b. abt. 1847). Benjamin disappears from the census after 1850, possibly in connection with the Civil War. We have family descended from Frank and his wife Sophia Miers (1850-1918) through their son William Henry Eckert (1867-1927). Frank's family lived in NJ. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

I am seeking Edward's forebears and those of his wife, Elizabeth Rothermal. Edward was a tobacconist in Pottstown at the time of his marriage to Elizabeth, also of Pottstown. His occupation is sometimes listed as "cigar maker." The 1860 Census has Edward and Elizabeth with their 9 of their 10 children living in Philadelphia. The 1880 Census has Edward, now a widower, living with his daughter Catherine and her husband Isaac C. Baker in the village of Montgomery, Lycoming County, PA. Edward died in 1884 and is buried in Philadelphia, probably Fernwood Cemetery.

Eckerts in Franklin Co. PA; Wayne Co. OH; and De Kalb Co. IN

According to written family biographies, in 1830 in Germany, a Peter ECKERT died in March and his wife, Eve (PFEIFFER) Eckert, left in May with their six children, arriving in America in August of that year. The children included Elizabeth, Sebastian, Eve, Margaret and Barbara (and one other unnamed child who died young). The family lived for a while in Franklin County, PA, where Elizabeth married John Sthair (sometimes written as Stahr or Stair in earlier records). Later, Sebastian and Barbara (and others?) also lived for a while in Sugar Creek Township, Wayne County, Ohio, where Sebastian married Susannah Cox and Barbara married Jerome Reynolds. Eventually, Sebastian Eckert, Elizabeth (Eckert) Sthair, Barbara (Eckert) Reynolds and Margaret (married??) all moved with their families to DeKalb County, Indiana. It was reported that the mother, Eve (Pfeiffer) Eckert, had moved to St. Louis. I don't know what happened to the daughter, Eve; perhaps she married and went to St. Louis as well. I think it is unlikely that an older widow would have gone to St. Louis alone, but perhaps she may have travelled with other relatives or she had remarried herself. All the children (Sebastian, Elizabeth and Barbara) reported that they were born in "Darmstadt", Elizabeth being the second child born in 1819.

I recently found an online marriage record for Johann Peter ECKARD (b. 1778) marrying Eva Elisabetha PFEIFER (b. 1797) on January 7, 1816 in the Evangelische church in Rimbach, Starkenburg, Darmstadt-Hessen (currently in Bergstrasse, Hesse). This looks very promising to me and I would like to look for more of the records for this family in Rimbach, but apparently the online database does not have the Rimbach birth records for the appropriate time period. How could I get these records?
