I believe some of these may still be living in the LA area. I believe married names for the girls are Sharon Flanagan, Bonnie Thomas, Valerie Monaco and Doris Riddle. This may or may not be current. I research the Haskin family line which is their ancestor and would like to communicate with any/all who are interested.
Thanks,
Cindi MEyer
Washington state

I can't find out anything either. I have William Edward (Edwoard) ECKLES, in W. Baton Rouge Parish, LA by 1845. Land grant documents say 'a married man', but I can't find a wife or the death of a wife, and by 1852 he was married to Marie Aurora Babin, in the Catholic Church. He had 3 very young daughter, all baptized in the Church. A year later, I have his succession. I can't find any death record or burial record.

On his marriage documents, he states his parents' names only as William Eckles and Anne.

Mary Eccles, daughter of Robert moved to Midway,Georgia from the colonial village of Dorchester,SC with many of the other settlers about 1752. This group of Puritans came had come from Dorchester,Massachusetts in 1695 and earlier (1630) from Dorchester and some of the other southwestern parts of England. That said I have not been able to verify much about the Eccles/Eckles family.

Would you know who Jane Echol's parents were. She was born about 1779 but I don't know where. Thanks, Ross

I am trying to figure out the tru family connection to the Goodchilds as I am not sure what
happened to their mom but by mid 1920's their father is in Ohio, remarried with a son and commits suicide (according to Ohio newspapers).
Re: Sarah "Sally" Eckles

Sarah "Sally" Eckles/Echols was the daughter of Thomas Eckles of Wilkes County, GA. and Sarah. Thomas used the spelling of Eckles although most of his family used the Echols spelling while in Georgia. Thomas Eckles was the son of Edward Echols, a Revolutionary Soldier. I have worked my Eckles/Echols lines back to Wilkes County, GA and find many connections to Milner Echols but nothing proved. I have tracked this particular aunt, her brother was my ancestor.

Her son, Alphonso Harrison Chandler had a town named after him. It is Chandler, Texas in Henderson County, Texas. He is buried in Chandler Cemetery with a very large marker befitting the prosperous founder of the town.

Another son, Hassell S. Chandler, came with Alphonso to Henderson County, Texas and is buried in Old Rock Hill Cemetery which is abandoned and no longer in use. It is located on private land and you must get a key and permission to go to it, (a Henderson County Commissioner has the key and is a neighbor to the cemetery, living right up the road from it). It is in good condition and is maintained by the same commissioner who has the key. There is now an historical marker right by the entrance.I both found and visited this cemetery in 2004. We took pictures of the graves.

Charles Eckles ca. 1788 PA > Scott County, KY

I'm looking for the origins of Charles Eckles who married Nancy Bow in Fayette County, Kentucky, on 8 April 1816. He is probably the wagon maker Charles Eckles born circa 1788 in Pennsylvania and living in Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky through 1860. He was probably the father of Nancy B. Eckles (1819-1888) who married Charles Nichols in Georgetown. I would be happy for any help.

Hello, I believe your Martha may be one found in my family. I have no husband name for her in my database but if she is a fit, her mother would be Elizabeth Frances Cofer/Coffer and father Harvey Benjamin Elijah Eckles/Echols. My Martha was born abt. 1839 in Wilkes County, Georgia. The family moved to Notasulga, Macon County, Georgia where H.B.Elijah Eckles died. Elizabeth continued on to Texas where she died in Wylie, Collin County, Texas in 1898. Elijah was on the 1860 Census of Macon County, Georgia so he must have died after that date. My great-grandfather was John Benjamin Eckles and ggrandmother was Elizabeth Gertrude Doxey. They died in Valley View, Cooke County, Texas. I firmly believe the person you search and mine are one in the same person.
Barbara Trammell Black
nononoall3@aol.com

Marion Calvin Eckles biography - 1921

Marion Calvin Eckles, a very successful general farmer and stockraiser of Durham Township, is one of the substantial men of Hancock County. He was born in Durham Township, November 29, 1884, a son of Americus and Frances (Nichols) Eckles, born in Hancock County. The paternal* grandfather, Joseph Nichols, was one of the very early settlers of this neighborhood. After their marriage, the parents settled in Durham Township, but later retired and now make their home at La Harpe.
Marion Calvin Eckles attended the district schools, Gittings Seminary of La Harpe, and one term at the Peoria Business College, following which he remained with his parents until he attained his majority. At that time, he entered the Farmers State Exchange Bank, at Dallas City, Ill. and remained for a time, leaving it to go on a farm his father owned in La Harpe Township, conducted that for eight years. He then moved to the homestead of over 300 acres, in Durham Township, where he is now carrying on general farming, and raising horses, cattle and hogs.
On February 28, 1919, Mr. Eckles was married at La Harpe, to Millie M. Bushnell, born at Blandinsville, Ill., Oct. 24, 1889, a daughter of Henry and Laura Bushnell. Mr. and Mrs. Eckles have had three children, namely: Francis, born December 15, 1911; Laura, born October 1, 1916; and Marion, who died March 2, 1918. In politics he is a Democrat. He is a notary public. A man of ability, he has turned his talents toward agriculture with very gratifying results, and just at present his efforts are especially valuable, for every man who has engaged in raising foodstuffs as he has, has done much for his country in her day of peril. - Pg 1191 - Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois & History of Hancock County, Vol. II, by Charles J. Scofield, Munsell Publishing Co., Chicago, Illinois 1921

* Should say “maternal”.
