More background info:

My paternal grandmother tells me that my grandfather's (Robert W. Ector, Sr.) father was Ender Prentiss Ector of Tunica, MS who I think was born in 1890. At some later date, he moved to Memphis, TN where he reportedly was a mailman. Ender's children included the following: Missouri (Ector) Garden, Indiana (Ector) Hill, Charles Ector Sr. of Memphis, and Mattie (Ector) Haywood.

I got a good handle or at least have local contacts that can fill in the blanks for me for the descendents of Ender; I am going to get a book soon that someone reportedly wrote. However, the only hint I can get on Ender of Tunica, MS is that he may have registered for the WWI draft. I'm going to the local MCOLDS soon to order a tape reel.

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. You can write me at cector2000@yahoo.com if you prefer.

Lakeisha, Start with your family. Try to find out from your family the oldest person's name they can remember. You can usually order a birth certificate of anyone born after 1910 or so, each state may vary. The birth certificate will tell you that person's father's name. Then go to the library or Family History Center (run by the Church of Latter Day Saints) and look at the census that might have him listed. Also the library people and Family History folks can give you lots of hints on what to do. Good luck! You are also welcome to write me direct if you'd like: jmeltonno1@cs.com

ECTOR family

I had not checked this site for some time. I found some information, that I have been looking for a long time, just yesterday. It was some handwritten info on the family that my grandparents told to my mother and she put it on paper. My GG Grandparents were John Mary Ector and they had 5 children, only 1 son, Robert. Robert was born in Ireland in 1830 and came to America in September 1850. He married Rebecca Scott in July 1860. She was born in Ireland in May 1833 to James Scott and Elizabeth Waugh. Rebecca came to America in July 1848. Robert and Rebecca had 6 children. Obediah died at age 6, John and William. John married Marie Skuse and William married Caroline Love. Does any of this fit into any info you have? Please contact me by email. With the holidays I won't be on the computer much but would answer an email. Thanks, Sally csm92@wilmington.net

Ronald - Searching for Ectors

Hi, Ronald. You are definitely not the only Ector, but it does seem to be a rare name. I wondered for awhile if the name had once been Hector, but then I heard about Sir Ector of the Round Table!

Where was your father from? Do you know anything about his folks? Mine went from North Carolina to Georgia, then some of them went to Texas, but my bunch stayed in Georgia.

Many here will be glad to help you track them if at all possible. Hope to hear from you again.

Jan
jmeltonno1@cs.com

I received a response from Lakeisha Ector on January 31, 2001 and apologize for not responding appropriately and promptly to the information given. Lakeisha, thanks for the information, don't know yet how it will fit yet, but I did talk to my brother in Buffalo New York and both of us are excited about your information. Our father's name is Nathan Ector and supposedly he is from around Grantville or Gantville. I am going to pass your information on to him.

If anyone else has information about Ectors. Please share and I will do the same as things develop.

You should check the Genforum website which has an Ector message board. As well you might want to refer to the site at http://proni.nics.gov.uk/records/private/dunlap.htm wherein you will fins a reference to one Sarah Ector who married a John Dunlap of Strabane, County Tyrone, Ireland. I am searching the Dunlap connection and have found the Ector line even more challenging. Good luck and good hunting.

Matthew Duncan Ector

I was blessed with a copy of my maternal family tree from a distant relative... unfortunately, due to so many moves that I have had to make over the recent years, this has been lost. My father's name was Towns, my mother's Manning. I remember back through my mother's line, I could trace my heritage back at least three generations to a Matthew Duncan Ector, who was a General in the Confederal Army under McCown. MD Ector was born in Putnam Co, GA in 1822, came to Texas in 1849. He commanded the Texas Calvary opposing Sherman in the March to the Sea. Pardoned by Johnson after the War. Went on to serve as a District Judge, member of the Court of Appeals, Cheif Justice on the Texas Court of Appeals and died October 29, 1879. Ector County in West Texas is named in his honor. I have alot of information on MD Ector from some research I did while visiting the Ector Co library on a business trip, but would like to get more. Anyone have any more information on Gen Ector or any descendants that could help me rebuild my family tree, would greatly appreciate it. Would greatly appreciate any info anyone might have. Anyone interested in the information, I have regarding MD Ector, please email me. Thanks!!! et

Hi Sally,
The NC Ectors that I previous contacted you about came there via Pennsylvania. Could these possibly be connected to some of yours?
The earliest one I can find is Samuel Ector in the late 1700's. He apparently came there with Andersons and Rev. Hugh McAden or McAdams, according to information furnished by the Anderson family.
