Jeanette, I dont know anything about the Stroud Family, but do know something about the Eddings Family. Do you know when Lillie's father was born, his name and where born ? Same for the grandfather? If this family was born before the 1920 census I might be able to trace them. If they were born in the 1700 and 18oo's it would be much easier. Bob Eddings.

His second marriage was to Maria Marshall Goodwin and they had 2 children. His 3rd marriage was to Emily Moore and they had 5 children. James' parents were John and Winny Eddings.
Would be happy to share if you need more.
Sincerely,
Ruth

Mary Ann ... I don't have a "history" per se, but I'm trying to collect a coherent story about the Eddins/Eddings line in early Virginia and I do have a short paper that addresses what is known about William I and II and considers possible links back to England. If you wish I could sent it along to you in either Word or PDF format.

Contact him at billcook44@aol.com. I show Juanita was born 1929 and had at least 3 sons: Larry. Gary, and Jerry Lynn. I have corresponded with your mother in the past about their annual reunions. About 20 years ago Juanita lived in Fort Worth, Texas. As I recall, she descends from Ivan Eddings and I descend from his brother, James Bird Eddings. Bob Eddings

Randy, a couple years ago I looked at some Cherokee documents (that Arthur Sturgill had looked at years ago), and I determined (by age) that Tooley wasnot Dave Weaver's wife, but his daughter-in-law. Sometimes she was listed as Tooney. Bob Eddings.

LaShawda, the Aquah Lih you mention was born 1-2 years before Elizabeth Weaver was born (1784), that rules her out as her mother.

About 1900-1906 the Cherokees had to fill out several documnents for the US Govt. Joe Weaver filled out some and on one he said his mother was Tooley. On another he said she was Tooney. (NOTE: These are the same documents that family historian Arthur Sturgill read and he was the first person to link Tooley as Dave Weaver's wife.).

Like many people on census reports who list different birth years each census, Joe listed his birth year in the range 1830-1840. I have arbitrarily used 1834 as his birth year. After reviewing hundreds of marriages, I have determined the girls usually married when they were 17-19 years old and their first child was born 1-2 years after that marriage. THat would make the birth year of Joe's mother (Tooley) as about 1815-16. She would have been Dave Weaver's daughter -in-law, not his wife, who would have been born in the 1760's. Joe just called his father 'Weaver". I suspect his father was Joseph Weaver, Dave's youngest son, born circa 1810. On one document Joe said his father died 1842 and mother (Tooley) in 1856.

These documents are listed on Bill Cook's Eddings website, under section "Files and Documents". To get on Bill's website, contact him at billcook44@aol.com. Bob Eddings.

On 1/2007 I sent your mother a 2 page email on your Eddings family, as I know it. However, it goes farther back on ancestors, than perhaps you are seeking. IT does mention your ancestor going to the Little Rock hospital, but I have no hospital name, etc. I dont know anything about your possible Indian ancestry either.
Linda, to my knowledge no one has determined the parents of John and Sarah Martin Eddins. I have no idea if they had any Indian blood. If they did have any, they wouldnot have ended up in Oklahoma. There were no Eddins.Eddings. Edens etc. on the Trail of Tears. In the late 1880's some Eddings/Eddins moved to the Indian Territory (including some from my famuly) from Arkansas. They did have Cherokee Blood in them.
The info you included for your husband's family probably will not get you any responses. If you can get me answers to my questions I probably can take your Eddings family back several generations. For example, John Eddings was born circa 1776 in North Carolina. At that time no Eddins, Eddings, Edings, etc. had yet moved into Georgia. I also descend from John Eddings. Bob Eddings

Pardon if this is a duplicate. My other post seems to have vanished. I couldn't help but wonder since there were no Eddings on the Trail of Tears, that possibly our Eddings were part of the small group who hid in the mountains while the rest were forced out. Stretch I know....but my mind is trying to figure out all possibilities. I made contact last night with a cousin from this line who is still in SC and says she was also told they were Indian. She said that after John and Mary died, their children were separated and raised by different families. Her ggrandmother was one of John's daughters. She still has her grandmothers bible and will see what information she can gather from that. She also mentioned that she heard most of the records were burned, which might explain why we can' find anything. Civil war possibly????

William R.(son of John and Mary) was the father of Charlie Melton, who is the father of Charles William, who is the father of my husband Wyatt. My husband said he was always told they were Indian, but I can not find any link. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the contact.

I am sorry I can't tell you anything about the N.C. Eddings line. I am working on the Eddings line in Arkansas, there is (said to be) Indian in my line that came out of Oklahoma. My grandfather Jessie Gibbon Eddings said his mother was Indian. She (my ggmother) passed in a state hospital in Little Rock, AR. This hospital had a fire and records were lost. I have not found any information on the hospital or on my ggmother. My mother knows alot about eddings in AR. My mother welcomes the chance to exchange information (her e-mail is nedinne@hotmail.com) she might have heard about eddings in N.C. or she might know somebody who is working on another eddings that might have answers.

Thank you for the Info.. I don't know why family lines have to be so tricky!! So, have you found out anything about Dave Weaver's wife's name & who she was? That is a reel stump. How come it seems that the family line just vanishes!!So how long have you been working on the family line? I am trying to finish our line just from my Grandpa Carver. He had 11 children,& then the family just keeps going on!! So, I have to keep up with them. My Dad& his Sister is the last of the 11 kids. I would like to finish the line soon. Anyway that's the plan. Do you know if anyone down the line has been acsepted into the Cherokee Tribe? LaShawnda

Do you also know who Dave Weaver's father was? I'm still looking. How long have you been working on our family line?
LaShawnda, I am also a descendant of Alfred Lee (btw, I think the initial "M" is incorrect) and Elizabeth Selvidge through John Conway Jefferson Lee and Elizabeth Eddings. I made a trip out to Monroe Co., TN a couple of years ago and found some information pertinent to Alfred's lineage. I believe that he is the son of Elijah Lea/Lee. I found some land transactions there that seem to back this up. Elijah was born about 1760 and lived in Buncombe Co., NC until sometime between the 1800 and 1810 census when he shows up in Monroe Co., TN.

There is a DNA project at Relative Genetics (now ancestry.com) which has a known descendant of Elijah's and several of Alfred's known descendants tested. The results are a 100% match for the two lines which leads me to believe that Alfred is likely Elijah's son. If you would like to contact me by email you can do that at randylee@missvalley.com. I would be more than happy to share information with you.

Randy Lee
Moberly, MO

Anyone interested in viewing the data compiled at the Lee Family DNA project can do so by following this link: http://www.relativegenetics.com/relativegenetics/index.jsp and typing in the Login: LeeFamily and Password: LeeDNA. I believe the login and password are case sensitive, so type it in exactly as you see it here. Three individuals from our Lee line have been tested. They can be accessed by clicking the "Project Results" tab and then scrolling down to the name you want to look at. Our Lee family records are listed under "Desc of Alfred Lea/Lee . . ". By clicking the arrow to the left of the name the entire list will resort and you can view all the Lees who have tested with similar results.

As a side note, the DNA testing has identified four "pockets" of Lees scattered across the USA each of which are related. Until the results were released on the RG website these groups didn't know about each other. Now we are working together to find the common ancestor from which we all descend. One group immigrated through Kentucky, one to northwestern Alabama and southern Indiana, one stayed in Virginia and then our line immigrated through North Carolina, Tennessee and on to Southern Missouri. Hopefully we can identify that common ancestor and maybe determine where and when he came to the USA.

I doubt that we are in any way related to Francis Lightfoot Lee. If I understand correctly, Francis was somehow related to Light Horse Harry Lee, the father of Robert E. Lee, the confederate general. A descendant of a close relative of Light Horse Harry Lee, Charles Carter Lee, has joined the Lee DNA project at Relative Genetics. DNA evidence shows that there is no tie between the Charles Carter Lee descendant and the Lee's from our line who have been tested. In fact, we are of different haplogroups. The Charles Carter Lee descendant is part of haplogroup Ila while our Lee's are R1b. It seems that most Lee families have a "story" told by someone who "knows" that they are related to the Lee's of Virginia. But it seems that DNA evidence has disproven this possibility in our case.
