Peter was born 17 Dec 1756 in Boston, Suffolk Co, MA.
He married possibly Elizabeth Walker on 15 Nov 1781 in Boston MA.
According to Sprague's Journal of Maine History, Vol. 9, No. 1, page 32-35, "The Edes Family" by Edgar C. Smith (USGenWeb Archives Files) states that when Peter sold the Bangor Register (about 1817) he went to Baltimore and lived with his son, Benjamin, who was a printer. He stayed until the son's death in 1832. Peter then returned to Bangor to live with his daughter, Mrs. Michael Sargent, until his death.
The Mount Hope Cemetery in Bangor, Penobscot Co, ME (www.mthopebgr.com/
) lists Peter Edes with a summary of his life. It also lists Michael Sargent (b Oct 1785, d 2 Jun 1869 at the age of 83 years 8 months) and Maria (d at the age of 86 years 2 months) and their child Edward (b Aug 1819, d 15 May 1868 at the age of 49 years 9 months). All were buried in Lot #69CG.
Therefore, I think the Benjamin that printed the Minerva and Emerald from 1829 to 1830 is probably Peter's son. I also feel that the Benjamin and Maria referred to in the History of Printing book was probably Peter's children.
Please let me know if you happen to find more about Benjamin Jr (1755-1801). Especially data concerning his wife and children, such as names and dates.
Hopefully this info leads you onto a successful road.
