Journal of Joseph EDGERTON

Several years ago I bought an old copy of a book called "Journal of Joseph Edgerton, compiled from original manuscripts by his daughter Eunice Thomasson." Printed in 1885 by William H. Pile of Philadephia. This particular Joseph EDGERTON was the son of James EDGERTON and Sarah COX, and was married to Charity DOUDNA. His father James EDGERTON was the son of Thomas EDGERTON and Elizabeth SAINT. I am not a direct descendent of this Joseph, but of his uncle Joseph, brother of Jospeph's father James EDGERTON. All those Josephs.... confusing, isn't it!

There are handwritten notes in the book by someone who mentions that his or her father's name is Nathan THOMASSON, and his father's name was John THOMASSON. It's a fascinating, very old book filled with mention of other Quaker names and meeting places, etc. The handwritten notes would make it a valuable family heirloom for someone. In his letters, Joseph mentions his brother John EDGERTON, his uncle William EDGERTON, his cousins Thomas and Elizabeth KENNEDY, his uncle and aunt, "P. and A. S.", and there are many mentions of his good friend Nathan HUNT. Joseph later had a son Nathan whom I'm sure was named for his good friend Nathan Hunt.

FYI, Joseph was very opposed to and troubled by the issue of slavery, and wrote, "...the wicked conversation of some present about buying and selling negroes, had liked to have caused me a sleepless night." And "We have had our health well since we left home, and have got along comfortably, except the feeling of distress that has attended in passing through a land of slavery. People here talk of buying and selling negroes with as little apparent feeling as we would of selling a horse."

If anyone is interested in learning more about this book, or possibly even purchasing it from me, please let me know.

Julie Keech Wychor >Clyde Eldon KEECH >Clyde Earl KEECH >Edy KEECH & Nancy Narcissus EDGERTON >David EDGERTON >William EDGERTON >Joseph EDGERTON >Thomas EDGERTON & Elizabeth SAINT

Edgerton/Egerton, NC, VA, MD and VT

I'm researching Edgertons (formerly spelled Egerton and subject to Edgington/Edginton etc.misspellings).
Areas known to have present descendants of the line are in NC (southwest and north), VA (western parts), and the line has historical connections before 1760 with VA, MD and, possibly the earliest, VT.
Other family names with connections include: Battle, Enloe, Logan, McCurry, Nicholson, Whiteside, Younce. At present it seems that any probable connection with Quaker or Irish descent Edgertons pre-dates immigration to the present US.
If you suspect any connections, or have connections with NC esp. Rutherford and Warren Counties, I'd be grateful for any emails to jims (at) rfci.net.

Thanks, and good luck searching.

I guessed that Lucy Philena was hers because of the middle name so therefore I guessed that all the chldren born after Lucy belonged to Philena but I do not have any guess about the ones born before Lucy.

EDGERTON, Bradford (1769-1813) & his descendants

Searching for descendants of Bradford Edgerton, son of Elijah and Bethia (Munsil) Edgerton.

I'm a descendant of Bradford's son, William Edgeton who married Wealthy/Welthy Mudge. Note William (and his brothers) dropped the "R" from their last name. Bradford's male descendants are difficult to prove because of the change in the last name spelling.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who descend from the same lines or if anyone knows of any birth/marriage records for Bradford Edgerton's children.

Thanks,
Carol

Daniel Edgerton

Hello:

I am researching my mother's paternal relationship to the Edgertons. My earliest
documentation is Daniel Edgerton who resided in Rutland County, Vermont as early as 1800.

A son, Daniel, was born 9-15-1833in
Rutland County and later moved to Ohio, Madison Township where he married one Mary
Elizabeth Brewer on 9-12-1855. Born of this marriage were Hamlin L. Edgerton,
Julius Edgerton and Ervin (perhaps Erwin)
Edgerton. By the 1880 census the entire family is found in Leadville, Colorado.
From there they moved to Carbondale, Colorado where I have lost track of family descendents except for my immediate family line.

Any information leading to earlier family history on Daniel or descendents of Julius or Ervin (Erwin?) Would be greatly appreciated.

Richard Sickert

I have a lot of family names I would like to match up with anyone who may be related. People in my family spell it with and without the "d" I traced back to the early to mid 1800's. We own a land in Louisberg. We are of African and Native American Descent. Hope to link up with anyone that may be related to us to compare notes. The Egerton name has been in family for as far back as I have been able to research, weird thing is my great grandmother was already and egerton when she married an egerton. So far there is no relationship between them, but who knows. May have been cousins somewhere down the line.

We bought an old scrapbook of newspaper clippings at a flea market. One of the clippings had a picture and the following caption: " Lieut. J. Clark Edgerton, one of the original fliers of the air mail service, who has been appointed chief of flying operations of the Post Office Department."

There were three articles about him which I found on the Ancestry Newspaper collection. One was for his marriage license, Aug 1918, with Mary Olive Robinette.

I am attaching the clipping in case anyone is ever interested.

I believe I visited their gravesites a couple of weeks ago. There are several Edgertons buried at Sylvan Lawn Cemetary in Greene, Chenango Co., NY and I believe Daisy Mae and Albert Jackson were there. I'd have to go home and check my notes, but am sure I saw their graves.
I was looking for small headstones and Edgertons have some big Gravestone markers.
Any chance of getting you to send me copy of the Reunion photo? I'd love to have that. I have taken some copies off the Edgerton website of my grandmother and great grandparents and great great grandparents and had them framed. I love it and would love to add a reunion photo to them.
I'd even pay for a duplicate if it's an actual portrait. I'd love to have a portrait instead of downloading a scanned photo from the web.

I was thinking that India would be a shortened name of Melinda or Lucinda.

I can't find anything of India Wilkinson. She has disappeared.

Anything would be helpful.
Did James and Margaret adopt her?

I could not find evidence of a family of the same surname spelling in the Wood Co censuses but I did find a John Edingdon family in the 1830 census. They didn't appear in the 1840 or 1850 censuses, so I presume they moved on.
Any and all assistance with James and his family is greatly appreciated.

She had a half sister named Bertha Ruff. Mabel married Morgan C. Dingman and they had 12 children. One is my mother. Any info on Mabel Edgerton's family would be very appreciated. I don't have her parents names or any brothers, sisters, or any other relatives. Also, interested in the Edgerton Book, if any one would send me copies,I would be willing to pay them. E-mail me at: roses2@ivillage.com
Thank. Rosemary

Would like to hear from male Edgerton's willing to join a group of similar spelled surnames for DNA testing on the male Y chromosome. Join the group to learn if we have early male ancestors in common. This is a non-evasive test, is not a paternity test, nor will it disclose medical information. Privacy is assured.

I have an old Catholic Church Mass Missal(pre-vatican II) that belonged to a Linda Jane EDGERTON of 917 E. Virginia Way Barstow, Calif. Inside are some Memorium cards:

- Anna T. Schleicher July 15, 1900/July 4, 1975
- Mrs. Doris La Rae Fuller "passed away December
19, 1975----Services held at First Presbyterian Church
(Hillcrest Cemetery/Browning Funeral Home)

Most importantly-- tucked into one of the folded cards is a note that appears to be from Linda Jane's mother, Rose. It is a very loving letter addressed to Linda and her husband, Paul.
It is dated June 2nd, 1977.
I live in Dallas and teach in a Catholic school--we had a stack of old Missals for reference. I have no idea who she is or how the missal got to Dallas.
Needless to say if anyone can identify themselves as family--I will happily send it to them for the cost of shipping.

I found 1 listing for a Harold Edgerton in the geneology listings, but there are no details. It lists his DOB as 1899 and his death as 1946. My dad never knew him as he left his wife and children and they never heard from him again. My dad was raised in S.D. and born in IN. Anyone know anything about this man?

Edgerton ancestry

I would be interested if anyone has information about the Edgerton's of North Carolina. The earliest date I have is for John Henry Edgerton, Born March 27,1842. His father was William and his mother was Charlotte Pike. They were members of the Quaker community. I would be interested in finding ancestors if possible. I was told that 3 Edgerton brothers came to the states and went 3 different directions. If this is true, then somewhere, there is a connection.
