Did you have any luck with your post? I am searching for more information on Nicholas Spicer. For a short while in the 1870s, he was Warden of the WY Territorial Prison. I'm now the historian at the WY Territorial Prison State Historic Site. If you have anything you'd be willing to share about Nicholas, I'd appreciate it! tsherw@state.wy.us
Re: Catherine Edick (born about 1752-New Yok) married Nicholas Weaver (b.1736-NY-d.1824-NY)

In my records, I have a Catherine Frank, b. abt. 1831 who married Jacob Michael Ittig about 1755; Jacob died in 1770 from lockjaw after stubbing his toe in some sort of jumping contest. Jacob was the son of Christian Ittig and Margaretha Weaver.

I also have a Catherine Frank, born about 1731 the daughter of immigrant Stephen Franks (Holstein, Germany); she married Nicholas Weaver abt. 1772. This Nicholas is the son of Henrich Nicholas Weaver and Anna Margaretha. Henrich is the son of immigrant Nicholas Weaver and Barbara.

Nancy has responded that the two women are probably one and the same - I agree, however, I have not located any other documentation that substantiates this, only the book she referenced. I would like to locate the marriage record of Nicholas and Catherine that would probably provided more information.

The Edick, Weaver and Frank(s) families are so intertwined it is difficult at times to extrapulate accurate information. And to make matters even more difficult, there are several Nicholas Weavers.

I also located this information pertaining to a Nicholas Weaver ...
There is an old story about a house that was destroyed by fire, killing some of the family members, owned by a Weaver family in Deerfield. Apparently, the house once stood on Trenton Road (from Utica to Deerfield) past Willow Drive. Those who perished in the fire were buried in a small area on top of a hill just past the house on the left. The story relates that this area has been haunted by "Mr. Weaver, who every Halloween walks with a lamp into the woods and up to the grave sight (site). And every so often you can see his family walking..." But which Nichoals Weaver family?

The local newspaper would be the Post Standard - I'm not sure when the Herald Journal merge with them. The Onondaga Co Public Library on S. Salina Street has the newspapers on microfilm for all three Syracuse newspapers (the Herald and the Journal were at one time separate entities). They go way back to the mid to late 1800's.

Regards,
Cindy

I have many John's born in the 1820 decade but not 1824.

I did find a John Edic living in the Town of Libertyville, County of Lake, State of Illinois in 1850, age - 26, Married, Farmer, Value of Ppty. - $800, born in NY.

Living with him was his wife, Abigail, 29 years old, born in New York; and two daughters: Alice (8? years old) and Susan (1 year old), both born in New York.

Let me know,

Stella

I have a copy of a will of a Jacob, born 21 July 1755, German Flats and died 21 July 1821 in Deerfield, Oneida County. This Jacob is my second cousin, six generations removed.
I am researching my husbands ancestry. His grandfather, Philanzo George Edick was born in Manasquan NJ. Parents unknown, suspect fathers name was also Philanzo as the family history of this name goes back beyond 1850. Our Philanzo was born in 1893. Raised by his aunt who was a school teacher and his uncle who owned a hotel in Potsville Pa. I have no connection to any brothers or sisters and wonder if your Edick might be related. It is also my understanding that Grandfather Edick was raised a Quaker while in Pennsylvania but broke away and married Jane Comer of Brooklyn NY around 1913. They had 7 children.
